    When I first started intermittent fasting a few years ago I did mess up my hormones because I was fasting like a man and not like a girl 😂 so I stopped fasting BUT I missed it because I felt so much better when I did it. Then I found Dr. Mindy and dipped my toe in the water again. Then I read her book and it was life changing- truly! My cycles are much better now and even as a 50+ year old woman I don’t experience any of the perimenopause symptoms I was starting to. Not that I never will but I believe that paying attention to what I am eating to support my hormones along with intermittent fasting is the reason for that. You are such an inspiration Joy and helping so many! ❤

      It begins there for sure! So many hormonal issues and chronic disease are tied to chronically high insulin and insulin resistance. Stay tuned I will talk more about it! ☺

      Great question! Fasting helps with so many hormones because they work together. Insulin is lowered, which leads to fat loss and lowering of inflammation. This is where a lot of excess estrogen can be stored. Lowering the estrogen helps progesterone and testosterone to balance out. I will plan on making videos to address all that Fasting can do for Hormones. ❤

      It is exogenous ketones. I believe they break a true fast. I recommend to get into ketosis by becoming metabolically flexible - by fasting and eating right 🙂

    May I ask why you are doing Omad or 20:24 fasting? Is losing weight your goal? I found if I do that for more than I few days, I lose too much weight! To me the 16:8 fast is ideal to maintain my weight. I am in my 60's and walking regularly and do light weight training in between.❤

      Actually OMAD and 20:24 are a maintenance protocol. I have never lost too much weight. This is why fasting is so individual - it really clarifies that we are all different, have different metabolisms and may need more time in the fasted state for healing and to lose fat.       If you still have your cycle, then following the Fast Like a Girl protocol is one I recommend. If you are an experienced faster then you can experiment and extend your fasting if it feels good for you. You just don't want cortisol to spike from day 20 until you begin your cycle.

      In my opinion it really comes down to your goals. If you are fasting for fat loss and to decrease inflammation, and it feels good to you - then you can workout in the morning before breaking your fast. But, if you are actively wanting to build muscle, you may want to get some protein before and after lifting - especially if you are lifting heavy weights.

    I struggled my whole life to gain weight. I’m 5’8” and in college, only weighed 100lbs. Now, I’m only 35, have not had kids, yet I almost always look like I’m pregnant now. This video has been IMMENSELY helpful and informative. The science behind everything you said was a brilliant addition. My biggest motivator is just feeling physically more comfortable. I hate feeling like my gut is being squashed every time I sit down. 2nd is vanity.
