    My 1st car was an 86 turbo z. Still miss it to this day. Funny enough I bought it from a mechanic named Larry who has a place few miles out from me. Have brought many vehicles to Larry over the years. Also spread the message and sent many other people in his direction. Great mechanic. Ironically from what I see in the background I would think you are at that very place on camp river site road(if I recall the name correctly) but I imagine there are a few diamond in the rough mechanics out there. Is bypassing the tank is the back detrimental? It seems its there for a reason for constant air pressure and it seems to allow air to spill into it for some of the fancy airmatic features, using the arnotts with the bypass seems to use the airbag as the air tank then with no ability to allow quick deflating? im no expert with air bags but wanting to do the right thing and not the 20 year old E class dodgy repair, I have a suspected air leak thats just started the last few days which I will monitor closely Arrnotts bag would seem to be under a lot more constant pressure being used as an air tank/ air bag like I said I am very fresh to how air systems work and just want to do the right thing and understand more

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the video, I think I talk about tanks connected right to the air springs - the Arnotts do away with those. In the trunk is a larger main tank. When you have the stock 'pillow tanks' on the springs, that air volume is combined with the air volume in the bellows during comfort mode - this additional volume does in fact change the spring rate. Arnotts spring rates therefor cannot be the same as OEM that retains the tanks. But on the OEM, the large rubber hose to the spring tanks can leak at the clamp, or corrode - this has been an issue on mine, repeatedly - not always the air spring itself. But yes, you *can bypass or cork of the 3/4" (maybe 5/8") nipple on the air spring and bypass the pillow tanks. Do not use a cooling system cap, it's not rated for the ~150psi.

    • @HTES962
      @HTES962 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      would there be much of a performance loss or difference with bypassing those tanks in the rear? I was considering getting Arnott's but they are pretty pricey when you can literally just plug the bag also, Which I have seen people do online. The larger main tank in the trunk is used as the compressors main air storage? @@TheCarFarm

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HTES962 You can bypass the little pillow tanks as I mentioned above - you just have to use something that'll take at least 150psi. Yes, the 1 gallon or so tank in the trunk is the main tank - you need that.

    I swear sometimes videos like this are just posted to aggravate people. Your putting a video of yourself messing around with a piece of equipment you know nothing about on the internet. Then making a fool of yourself by showing you weren’t smart enough to use that same internet full of millions of terabytes of information and thousands of videos on everything to do a 5min search to find out anything about it first. I love seeing old iron made to live again but I don’t love so called mechanics who don’t even know enough to do a little research or even move stuff around while looking at what it does to figure out which lever does what before diving into the deep end and trying to start it.

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow - firstly, a fool wouldn't know "you're" from "your" and post ignorant rants. Secondly, stand in front of me, and I'll fix that mouth for you. What you failed to observe was a completely unfamiliar machine resurrected with zero assistance from the internet. Think about that the next time you borrow someone else's knowledge, in lieu of leveraging your own. I'd argue the fool is the ignorant.

      @@TheCarFarm wow the level of Butt hurt from the crescent wrench Vice grip crowd is epic. Ignorant rants? I actually thought you guys were spoofing for a laugh at first and just found it annoying instead of funny. Guess I struck a nerve. Suck it up buttercup it’s good cider anyway. I guess you never saw autocorrect slip one by someone before either? I won’t bother to mention that I had enough common sense and good enough observation skills at 12 to have figured it out on my own before doing something potentially deadly dangerous or destructive then. Of course I should be nicer and say it’s because I had good teachers an analytical mind and a passion for all things mechanical to the point that my nickname was tool box. I have to say though I shared your happy enthusiasm when you got it going but wasn’t surprised at all how little it took for you to do it. They really knew how to build stuff that lasted back in the day. I once dragged home a late model WC that had sat under a shed for 25-30 years and had it running in a few hours. Either way what really matters is you succeeded, had fun learning and nobody got hurt.

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aaronfarr4753You almost got it - yes, we were having fun. No, autocorrect didn't change 'you're' to 'your' for you. No, we didn't plan this nor was _any_ research conducted. Yes, we all have been turning wrenches since probably before 12. No, we didn't have YT videos back then to lean on - just good ol' fashion mental capacity and now experience. Yes, you missed the seized engine, the 4ft bar and hours of soaking cylinders, that led to cranking with starter that led to coil for spark that then turned into a WIR episode. We were going to just drag it out with the skid-steer. This is also a very early video, and we had fun. And now we have a running, un-seized WD45 sitting down in the lean-to. Could we have damaged anything? Absolutely! AND WE DON'T CARE. We know ALL the risks, and it's just not a concern. In fact, had that thing windowed the block, it would've been more fun. It certainly would've struck the nerves of the tractor boomers.

    • @aaronfarr4753
      @aaronfarr4753 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheCarFarm I didn’t miss the stuck engine part. It’s what I meant by not being surprised at how little it took to get it going again. If that was a farmall or ford etc your next video would have been of it in pieces and you talking about how you were waiting on an engine rebuild kit and the machine shop to finish with your block. I’m glad you had fun and learned a lot. Did the hand clutch free up on it’s own or did you have to unstick it? The video did remind me of how much fun I used to have dragging things like that out of the scrapyard and getting it going again. You are right, we didn’t have the internet, all we had was ask someone, go to the library or just figure it out by trial and error. My apologies for forgetting that sometimes and being snarky about people not using it now. I sometimes fail to remember how great figuring it out on our own and the sense of accomplishment that came with it felt.

    Hey buddy, take it from a guy who knows, there's an octopus of 1/8 vacuum lines on that car that control everything. If one of those lines is off you'll have all kinds of problems. They're plastic and brittle and crack easy . So make sure each one is in good shape and going to the proper position. Also the plug on the ecm in the passenger foot well behind the cover gets loose and corroded. Check all the pins on it. Maybe put some dyslectic grease on it and slide it on and off a few times to make sure each terminal is making contact. Also if you turn the key on/off 3 times it'll give you it's codes though the check engine light flashing. Count the flashes and look em up. Five flashes then five flashes is end of message. Good Luck Buddy ! 👊😎👍

    My wife worked for Chrysler back then and she ordered a black 85 Turbo Z. I put headlight covers and rear window louvers on it . And tinted the windows limo. It looked great ! That thing was a crotch rocket for the day. Those ground effects worked. Over 100mph the whole car sank down an inch or two and was stuck to the road. The winter of 88 she drove it home from Highland Park to Lake Orion with no coolant ! The next day #3 rod was knocking. So I ordered a Mancini Racing short block. Put the next size up Garret turbo on it with a ported head with a straight pipe exhaust and a Super Trap muffler. I also put an inline bleed in the vacuum line for the waist gate and was running over 20lb boost. It ran an 11.7 1/4 mile once at 117mph with AC ! It had horrendous torque steer though. The CS had equal length half shafts that helped. But ours kept melting #3 piston lands do to detonation! I gave up. These days with Turbo Timers and MSD rev limiters that engine would hold together. There was a really cool magazine add back then that showed a guy in black leather standing behind one in the fog with the caption ; Stunning Overachiever ! You know the Mitsu Conquest TSI's were even better cause the engine ( a 2.4 liter) was north south with rear wheel drive and they offered this killer Ice Blue color that was beautiful ! 👊😎👍P.S. that same maroon color car was used in the movie "The Wraith" and the tv show "Hunter".

      Yes, fully aware, sir! Check out our other videos. It was my 4th Daytona owned - up to five, now. PS. The Conquest was a 2.6 :) . And in the Wraith I don't think there was a Maroon/Silver car. Augie's was all red CS (they painted the ground effects black) AUTO with Tan interior, T-Top (cool) - the opening car was a 86 White CS. In the chop-shop scene was a white 87 Shelby Z (not yet released at time of filming). But yes, DeeDee McCall drove a maroon/silver 84 and 85 (then finally, an 87 Shelby Z).

    Please don't put gas or diesel in your fresh water holding tank.. that rear driver side spout is WATER not fuel for the generator. The generator gas is tapped into the main gas tank. And the porch light and all others are 12 volt, they run off the " house" battery

    We have a 1964 named Myrtle, 270 model = 27 feet. Myrtle has the push button transmission with the original poly 318 stroked and bored to a 408.

      ...those Dewalt jump packs beep when they're connected, and you can't disable that beep. I can tell you it weighs on my mind every time we use them while filming. It's unnecessary, and in person, it's even worse. Then we had two of them in parallel for this video.

    I thought those ports on the back of the block are to the oil gallery, I run my pressure gauge off one on my 413.
