QUICKIE: 89 Shelby Daytona - WILL IT RUN? On 14 year old gas??

  • Brian and Ben find out if this Farm Fresh 89 Shelby Daytona will run after sitting, forgotten, for nearly 14 years. We were really, honestly, just wanting to see how rotted the car was. The car is owned by the same former owner of our 84 Turbo Z - and has been on the farm even longer than the Turbo Z. It was wrecked at one time, front end welded and spliced with a donor - but no Intercooler was installed. We believe the engine was swapped too, and it may not be a true T2 any longer - we're not sure.

    I like the body style. "Wasn't the prototype was in the movie"The Wraith...?

      There *may* have been an 87 prototype in The Wraith (pop-up headlight car). In the background when they were at the chop shop, supposedly disassembling the 86 C/S that had just lost the race - a keen eye could see that it's not the same car! I just don't know if that 87 was a prototype or early production. Everything else was production, except of course for the Dodge M4S Turbo Interceptor PPG Pace car - that was a prototype, as well.

    6:10 God I love these 2.2 and 2.5 motors... the only time I've been let down by one is when the HEP module dies. Now that I've gone through that experience, I always know to keep a spare new HEP around!

    Do you guys sell parts on Ebay or anything? I have an 1985 LeBaron with a 1989 Daytona T2 2.5 swapped into it with an A555... I swapped the digital 89 dashboard in... love the car so much! So glad to find other Turbo Dodge folk making videos!

      @@TheCarFarm Sorry for a million questions, so nice to see people with a passion for these Turbo Dodges. Some amazing facts about these cars was the stock ECU was so capable from the factory, the block itself can handle a ton of power without splitting, and the transmissions of that era were also built so strong. These cars were SO advanced for their time and under-appreciated, if the world collapses and we enter a Mad-Max timeline, old Chryslers will be roaming the wastelands for sure!

    I'm going to change out the ASD relay in my 84 I still can't get it started, it's also a restoration project so I'm in the process of replacing the fuel tank fuel pump and fuel filter, if I can't get it started after that I think I'm going to have to hit you guys up, 😁😊

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of guys talk about the ASD relay....that I've never once seen to be as the source of a problem. Usually it doesn't work because it wasn't commanded to work. Do you have spark? Do you have injector pulse? On every LM-based car I have, I have had to clean the LM connectors. Every. One. Then crank - any codes? HEP is of course your next stop. Does the pump prime at all?

    • @CHARLIE1NABLE
      @CHARLIE1NABLE ปีที่แล้ว

      Last time I checked it wasn't getting spark, I'll check again though, I've gone through four coils all brand new and even OEM nothing no spark yet, I also changed out the power module and the ECM , I've also changed out the starter relay and all of the relays underneath the engine bay, however I did come into some faulty wiring which I just worked on last weekend where a ground wasn't even connected, and there was a positive wire going to other grounds which was not good either, I straightened out all the wiring and replace the terminals all brand new and soldered, the one thing that I can say for sure right now is that the fuel pump is not priming, I'll check again for spark and I'll get back to you I do appreciate your help though, I know that if you and Brian were here that you would be able to get it started, I think I'm pretty close to getting it started myself, the project has come a long way

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      What was the part number of the power module you installed? Also, CLEAN THE LM CONNECTORS. My 84 dies randomly, the tps connections still aren't great. I wiggle blue connector and away she goes...watch the 84 Daytona video. I don't show anything but I had same symptoms...everyone thought it was power module. It did prime. It had spark UNTIL you cranked it fornmore than 5 seconds!! Tricked everyone.

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...also fusible links are hypalon types. You should have 3 power connections from the positive battery. The little one is red/pink and should go straight to the PM through a single black connector.

    • @CHARLIE1NABLE
      @CHARLIE1NABLE ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir I have all my battery connections in place that's what I took care of first, tomorrow I will check on the part number of the power module, I still have the box and the sticker is still on it so hopefully the part number is there

      The PO is the current O. It's just at the farm. I actually drove the car down to the shop and back to get air in the tires, and it felt "good" - more solid than the 84 Turbo Z that has all new everything. We had been pushing it around the property as we've made changes and cleaned, not realizing stupid thing was a runner!
