    My wife worked for Chrysler back then and she ordered a black 85 Turbo Z. I put headlight covers and rear window louvers on it . And tinted the windows limo. It looked great ! That thing was a crotch rocket for the day. Those ground effects worked. Over 100mph the whole car sank down an inch or two and was stuck to the road. The winter of 88 she drove it home from Highland Park to Lake Orion with no coolant ! The next day #3 rod was knocking. So I ordered a Mancini Racing short block. Put the next size up Garret turbo on it with a ported head with a straight pipe exhaust and a Super Trap muffler. I also put an inline bleed in the vacuum line for the waist gate and was running over 20lb boost. It ran an 11.7 1/4 mile once at 117mph with AC ! It had horrendous torque steer though. The CS had equal length half shafts that helped. But ours kept melting #3 piston lands do to detonation! I gave up. These days with Turbo Timers and MSD rev limiters that engine would hold together. There was a really cool magazine add back then that showed a guy in black leather standing behind one in the fog with the caption ; Stunning Overachiever ! You know the Mitsu Conquest TSI's were even better cause the engine ( a 2.4 liter) was north south with rear wheel drive and they offered this killer Ice Blue color that was beautiful ! 👊😎👍P.S. that same maroon color car was used in the movie "The Wraith" and the tv show "Hunter".

      Yes, fully aware, sir! Check out our other videos. It was my 4th Daytona owned - up to five, now.
      PS. The Conquest was a 2.6 :) . And in the Wraith I don't think there was a Maroon/Silver car. Augie's was all red CS (they painted the ground effects black) AUTO with Tan interior, T-Top (cool) - the opening car was a 86 White CS. In the chop-shop scene was a white 87 Shelby Z (not yet released at time of filming). But yes, DeeDee McCall drove a maroon/silver 84 and 85 (then finally, an 87 Shelby Z).

    My 1st car was an 86 turbo z. Still miss it to this day. Funny enough I bought it from a mechanic named Larry who has a place few miles out from me. Have brought many vehicles to Larry over the years. Also spread the message and sent many other people in his direction. Great mechanic.
    Ironically from what I see in the background I would think you are at that very place on camp river site road(if I recall the name correctly) but I imagine there are a few diamond in the rough mechanics out there. Real nostalgic watching this. I know it’s an old vid but I am glad I stumbled across it.

      Never heard of a Camp river site road, or anything similar, or even a river nearby.

    In 1996 I turned 16 and I bought a 1985 daytona turbo z 5spd car, it was fast for its time, i drive it for 2 years then sold it for a 88 mustanggt , I loved that car, you don't see many of them around anymore. Now that I'm 41 years old I'd love to find one to relive my youth lol

    Hey buddy, take it from a guy who knows, there's an octopus of 1/8 vacuum lines on that car that control everything. If one of those lines is off you'll have all kinds of problems. They're plastic and brittle and crack easy . So make sure each one is in good shape and going to the proper position. Also the plug on the ecm in the passenger foot well behind the cover gets loose and corroded. Check all the pins on it. Maybe put some dyslectic grease on it and slide it on and off a few times to make sure each terminal is making contact. Also if you turn the key on/off 3 times it'll give you it's codes though the check engine light flashing. Count the flashes and look em up. Five flashes then five flashes is end of message. Good Luck Buddy ! 👊😎👍

      lol thanks for the comment! If you'll just watch the other videos we have on 2.2/2.5's, I think you'll see we are quite well versed in these cars! lol! We have every Shelby version ever made, every 2.2/2.5 version ever produced. I think there's about 8-10 T3 cars, about 7 87 GLHS's, a 2-3 86 GLHS's (restored), several CSX's (87s, 88s, and 89s). Some Dakotas. Lots of Shelby Chargers, various Daytonas (only car we don't have is a T3 Daytona - but we do have 1 92 Shelby parts car and T3 engines). I even have been driving a 90 VNT Daytona and also a 90 Voyager turbo - not yet filmed on the channel.

    I always loved the 1st gen Daytonas. I bought a new one back in 84' and have had several Daytonas over the decades. As you mentioned, 84' was a one year only for certain things, such as, the best looking in my opinion, sport steering wheel, the buttons on the inside of the center console which I really like. My current is a blk 84' turbo z with 58k orig miles I bought from the orig VA owner almost 20 years ago. Good luck with it.

    Thanks for the vid! I'm surprised it turned over, with the quality of wiring they used back then! I had an '85 Turbo that I bought in '92, and while I loved driving the car, the wiring was as brittle as I've ever seen. I'd try to fix a broken wire for the power mirrors and break 3 other wires in the process; clean break every time. And yeah, that wastegate actuator was terrible; always popping the C-clip that held it in place and would slip off, again and again and again. Easy to temporarily fix; I don't remember if I ever fixed it permanently.

    • @TheCarFarm
      @TheCarFarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Right on! So, funny story - this vid is 2 years. Since then, this car has been on a rally, cracked the block, swapped in an 85 T1 and converted to T2 with intercooler, but still on stock 84 electronics. Boost is manually controlled, Air charge temp sensor and iac are just laying in the engine bay, idle is set manually. I will defend the electronics all day long - now for the funny part - after sitting for about 8 months or so, I took it out today and it died, twice and we pulled it back to farm. The cause? Dirty LM connections that I just. cant. fix. There may be more video coming on this car when we swap it to an 89 computer and wiring...

    • @robsolf
      @robsolf 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheCarFarm Thanks for the response! Interesting to hear about the electronics being fine; us literally swapping experiences on that front would make SO much more sense, since mine I bought when from yuppies when it was 6 years old with 63k miles on it, and it was in great shape inside and out. This was up in Michigan, though. Anyway, I sold it and bought a 93 Shadow ES, and that car just went and went and went, though it did burn its share of oil after a while. I'd love to hear more about that Daytona. Still LOVE that first gen look, especially the Z.

    Hope to see more content from this channel! These cars are so underappreciated, but look at the condition of that car and it still runs and drives! I know this one is kinda Rough, but hopefully you fix it up and make something fun with it instead of destroying it. So many 1 year only things on that car, my favorites are the Turbo z embossed rear bumper and the four spoke sport steering wheel, and it`s even painted like Dee Dee McCalls car from Hunter TV Series! Hope to see more Turbo Dodge stuff. -Black 85 Turbo Z undergoing 2.4T swap, owner.

      It's getting fixed. Don't you worry your sweet little head about it. The Lemons Rally is a DRIVE on public roads - not a race. Not to be confused with the 24hrs of Lemons races! The Lemons Rally CELEBRATES these cars and other creations. I had planned on playing the role of Hunter using this car on the next rally, fyi. The floors on this thing are GONE. The replacement floor is already in the process of being prepared (it was a full cut-out of donor A-body - tunnel is different but under-foot floor is the same). I wanted to nerd-out more about the 84 stuff but needed to keep it shorter. Enjoy.

      It belongs to a friend of the farm. If he ever sells it, we will buy it and do something with it. We just did a Will It Run video on it recently. We had 4 Daytonas on the property, none were/are solid. It'd be nice to save that white one, but a body donor may be a better approach. We'll see..

    Yes the fuel door and lift gate were on the drivers side floor from 1985-1990. 1991 with the changed dash board borrowed from the 1990 Lebaron it had the fuel door and the lift gate were located on the left side under the steering wheel.
