5:08:17 To the final episode
In this second-to-last episode of Always on My Mind, I finally obtain the Oblivion Keyblade, which requires completing the entire game on Critical Mode. One of the definitions of "oblivion" is "the state of being forgotten." Before that, I finish the last of the data battles. This episode's fight is against Xion, a character who, in her debut game of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, appeared differently to each person who observed her based on his or her connection with Sora, the hero of Kingdom Hearts whose name means "sky" in Japanese. At the end of that game, she was wiped from existence, and all memories of her having ever existed disappeared from everyone's minds, but because Sora is the type of person who just won't let go and wants to make room for everyone, some trace of Xion's essence remained inside his heart. She's eventually brought back and given a new chance at life in Kingdom Hearts III. When you defeat Data Xion in the Re Mind DLC, you receive an accessory called "Breakthrough," which I believe is meant to convey a sense of suddenly remembering something-a "eureka" sort of moment.
For this episode, I gathered a bunch of different people who saw and knew different sides of Jamison in order to pool their memories. My goal was to create something to preserve the most complete, multifaceted sense of who Jamison was that I could to save him from being forgotten. With all of this in mind, I've given episode 71 the subtitle Break Through Oblivion.
My younger brother Jamison and I bonded over Squaresoft games together in the early 2000s. He's dead now, and he never had a chance to play KH3. I recorded my first blind playthrough of the game in his honor.
Kingdom Hearts III is owned by Square Enix and Disney.
Music used:
"J.R.B. - Coda" was written for this specific episode by Sam Winters.
"Treasured Memories" is from the Kingdom Hearts OST.
"Dimension Breach" and "Home Guldove" are from the Chrono Cross OST.
"Sleepless City Treno" is from the Final Fantasy IX OST.
The lyrics of "Adē Łovasā" ("Life is a Path") were written by Canjo in his language.
"Peaceful Days" is from the Chrono Trigger OST.
"The Sun's Gone Dim and the Sky's Turned Black" was written by the late Jóhann Jóhannsson.
"April Blooms (LA Mornings)" was written and performed by my late friend Robert.
You can watch the video Jordan's Dream on my other channel, LoofPopstar. (th-cam.com/video/fnUNdakDEG8/w-d-xo.html)
I'm not making any money from this video series. It's just a personal passion project.
Opioid addiction is an epidemic ravaging communities. If you want to make a positive difference on that front, I'm not the person to ask about it. I don't know what can be done or what's effective, and that isn't the purpose of this video series. This is simply a small tribute to my late brother Jamison.

Today, April 20th, is the five-year anniversary of Always on My Mind, my tribute series for my younger brother Jamison. I had originally planned for the last episode, 72, to be published today. Hey thank you! Yeah, I was really proud of this video and almost no one saw it. I guess not that many people saw Cobweb, and even fewer were looking for an analysis of it. Which is sort of a shame, because while I honestly wasn't that into the movie, I did find it really interesting to analyze and think other people probably would too. I actually do have some sort of issue with having to clear my throat a ton that I haven't been able to figure out, but I think it's related to the air quality where I live (South Korea) and the presence of black mold in the building I lived in for several years, including when I made this video. It turns my throat into hamburger meat. The entire process of recording is really hard for me because I make a lot of mistakes and have to repeat myself a ton, always clearing my throat, and I have to drink a lot of water. That aside, though, that is fairly close to how my voice just normally sounds. I've been told it's an interesting voice (usually positively) most of my life.

The strangest thing to me this movie does is locking up the main villain before the final act (without introducing another villain). It's like Matt Reeves wanted to make sure that there would be no suspense on whether Batman will win or lose because it's impossible that Batman would lose to random nameless thugs. I don't know any other movie that would do such stupid thing.

@@BabyArms I'm shocked but by doing a quick search there is very little information about Oedipus Rex and Minority Report. Just like Oedipus John kills his "father" (Lamar Burgess) and has incest with "mother" (of precrime) when she kisses him on the lips. Other moments in the movie where blind people see the truth are pretty obvious. Another thing going in the movie is art. Cogs projecting their visions on the screen in a dark room is very similar to cinema theatre. And John Anderton montages their vision to get a meaningful picture (a movie) that he can show the audience (the officers? dont remember who exactly are they). So John is an editor and director. Dr. Iris Hineman is listening to classic music while taking care of flowers ( also a form of art). Gideon plays organ for the prisoners. Cogs are reading literature after being released. Dr. Solomon P. Eddie is cured by literature in prison. Lara Anderton deals with her son loss better than John because of her photography art. Unfortunately, I don't really like Se7en because all the detective work is just time wasted because the villain simply walks in and gives up. Also Brad Pitt acting is pretty bad, especially in the famous box scene (and I usually don't notice or care about bad acting in the movies so it's the only generally liked movie where I do not like acting). What do you think of Fincher's The Killer? For me it's the best movie of 2023 without a doubt

It's okay but it's nothing but treading on old waters by previous Batman films. A triangle between Batman, Catwoman and Penguin ? Batman Returns The villain being after every rich crook in Gotham who wronged them in the past ? Mask of The Phantasm An early years/Year One-ish origin story ? Batman Begins There are isolated things I like about it like it being a more procedural crime story with actual investigation, the more down-and-dirty feel of an inexperienced Batman, the Riddler being such a 'tistic stereotype. But then we have too much raceswap (I'm fine with Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, but I really don't care for Zoe Kravitz as Selina), the tedious runtime, some really on the nose pandering like her rant about "rich white males" and the mayor candidate being an AOC stand-in, and I'm getting tired of the Penguin being portrayed as a generic mobster ever since the Arkham games. If they could somehow double down on the good stuff, introduce Mr Freeze or Hush or the Court of Owls, or come up with a good version of Robin (of which there were some talks), fine. But Matt Reeves REALLY needs to shake things up for the next one.....

This analysis is great. I’m grateful to have found you here. It’s made me want to watch the film again and analyse it. I’m a PKD fan , a dickhead , and I appreciate his gnosis . There’s something lost in this film version, perhaps something that jars only me. (Bar the colouration, i know of a lot of people whom dislike it!) I hope to capture some PKD in my writing. now at the end of your video, I see new things not apparent to me the few times I’ve watched this movie, mostly through eyes distracted by the palette. I also see that the film will forever hold a deep meaning for you and an eternal comfort. Whatever the general consensus, art is often a subjective experience . Doubly so when it speaks to you personally. Best wishes .

Hey, thanks for this! It's really cool to hear from someone who's big into the writings of Philip K. Dick. I was just talking to another commenter a day or two ago about how I'm not always the biggest fan of this movie's tone, and it is straight up a different story from the original short story, but as you said, there's a lot there beneath the surface that definitely warrants consideration. As popular and well-liked as the movie is, I think it's actually underappreciated even by most of its fans. It really is so rich and dense with meaning. I appreciate you taking the time to write this comment and am very, very glad you found and enjoyed the video. Out of all the movie analyses I've done so far, I think it's my best work. Feel free to come back and share anything you notice about the movie after you rewatch it! I'd be interested in your take.

I hate the colouration of this film. It’s insipid. Like a weak mix. Ironically, it lacks clarity. It’s not gritty, but mushy and bland . It might work with a non Spielberg film. But his style jars with this. Particularly the slap stick. ET was fantastic.. But I feel Spielberg has always been the wrong director for sci fi. Schindler’s list was fantastic. Like ET, it’s grit comes from emotive realism. Being black and white, it’s gritty but with contrast . And of course there’s the red coat. Which does a stellar emotive job, that the red ball doesn’t live up to.

You know, I think I partially agree with you that Spielberg might not have been the best person to direct this movie. I like it a lot overall, but I've never been big on the goofiness and had to look past a lot of that to start to appreciate the movie more. It just feels like a lot of the time it has the wrong tone for the subject matter. I say partially because another commenter informed me a while back that one of my favorite pieces of symbolism (the stuff with reflections and shattered mirrors) was very likely Spielberg's idea, which makes me think that probably a lot of the visual metaphors I liked were his idea. It's still very possible that another director might have done a better job in many ways, but then it'd just be a different film with different things to appreciate. I'm loath to suggest a remake, but the premise is rich and intriguing enough that I'd probably be very interested in seeing another attempt at adapting it by someone like, say, Denis Villeneuve. Heck, Christopher Nolan could probably do something really great with it now that I think about it.

The movie i a weird one for me. I almost love the movie but have issues. Many that you mention. I also agree its a bad take on the Riddler and that it should have been switched to Hush. That would have been a fun twist. This character not the Riddler at all. I know a lot of poeple that didn't like the movie. I don't think average fans really cared for it. Just from my limited experience. Nice video and well said.

Your ma reminds me so much of my own mother. The guilt of not having taken you to the nutcracker as a child in particular. It's sort of funny knowing how totally unbothered you were by it, but the sentimentality of her hanging onto that for all of these years is a quality I recognize in both my mom and myself. Insofar as I can gather from less than two hours, your mother seems like a wonderful, gracious person. You compliment each other well. You'd mentioned being self-conscious about coming across as cheap or disingenuous. My two cents as an outsider who has never experienced the unimaginable pain of losing a brother is that this series (and this episode in particular) is incredibly valuable. The reminiscence & insights give me a deep appreciation for all of the blessings in my life. On some level, I hope that doing these videos helps you to organize and understand a lot of the complex feelings that you identify throughout them. Still, I hear where you're coming from. Even writing this comment has me second-guessing my own intentions. I appreciated your mother talking about the inability for others to truly understand what it's like to lose a child, and even showing compassion for outsiders who attempt to awkwardly navigate the situation. I don't know how it feels. I can't imagine, and I struggle to attempt it. To come out the other side of it having made her peace with God is deeply reassuring, even though the grief persists. Thank you for sharing this conversation.

I woke up this morning to this video. It was sad for me to watch and remember…actually painful. For me, all memories of when my boys were young make me sad because of eventually losing Jamison. It is true that if you haven’t experienced losing a child as a parent, you just don’t have a clue. Most parents don’t even want to try and imagine what it would feel like. It is just too dark of a place. There are so many different feelings and emotions that for me I struggle to understand it all. I have been to counselors, and my conclusion is that it helped very little. If anything, I struggle over Jamison’s death now more than ever before. Maybe it’s due to facing my own mortality, another emotion I try to understand.

"32 years ago" Your mum fucking exposing you dude. But in all seriousness, she spoke well and it was great hearing her perspective as heart breaking as it is to see/hear. I am sure its a wound that won't ever truly heal, but I really do wish the best for her, yourself and the rest of your family as the years go by. I know you will probably down play it, but the level of strength it takes to share these stories and keep Jamison's memory going is unfathomable. I've said before, I was never lucky enough to know him, but I do know he is loved and will always be so.

In the story the murder prophets were hideously disfigured mutants, who would have been social outcasts. I wonder if this played a factor in their finding so many "murderers"- so rapidly. Even in the movie they have a huge population of killers. The cops were on a constant run to capture people- for what?

Naturally, as their father, listening to the revealing and raw feelings of one son talk about both his memories and his journey of mourning the death of his brother, is emotional for me to view. I remember making that same hike with Jamison and feeling nervous the entire time he climbed up to and searched the cave…same as I also did when Jordan did the same in tribute to his brother. During that hike with Jamison I remember feeling hopeful yet anxious about his future knowing probably only a tiny hint of how difficult a road a recovering addict must travel through the remainder of their life! As his father, I was constantly in a state of anxiety. My commenting on Jordan’s video may be seen by some as therapeutic, but the grief never leaves. I’m proud that Jordan has the ability to speak Korean for this video, and understand his desire to do so. I was also proud of Jamison’s ability speaking Spanish. They both possess the curiosity and desire to learn and work very hard to accomplish a goal! I respect that greatly! Jamison had so much to offer, and that is part of the tragedy. I feel like he touched many people and I hope mostly in a positive way during his short life. Many people never accomplish that.

@@BabyArms I really enjoyed Paul Dano’s performance the first time but it gets worse everytime I watch it. I can see why you hate the yelling scene too, such an odd choice lmao. I also agree that I’m unsure about Pattinsons Bruce Wayne, like what you said here I recognize it’s on purpose but it’s an odd decision. On early watches, new good batman stuff was enough but with time I can’t believe they couldn’t work in compelling Bruce Wayne stuff with the run time. I loved your analysis, the only thing we really disagreed with was I’ve always loved Colin Ferrell’s riddler. At the time I just wanted what the movie gave me, with hindsight I think some of it could’ve been cut for better things that these writers are capable of doing.

    • @BabyArms

@@BananaHammocks Well thank you very much! What Dano did should work on paper, but for me it's just how he delivered that scene that's unbelievable (in a bad way). He really is a good actor in other stuff. As for Bruce, I guess we're probably on the same page in thinking that his character arc in this movie could have been a lot more compelling without really losing anything it already has going for it. I probably will check out the sequel regardless. Curious about how Pattinson's going to play him in that. I don't think it'd make sense to turn in exactly the same sort of performance, so which way will they take it? Anyway, very glad you liked my video! This one took me ages to make.
