Yeah. I agree. The multidimensional Starling (and the competent acting bringing her to life) can be seen as the reason for her being the outstanding role in this movie. Lecter and Crawford (not related to the Boxer) may take on the deserved roles of her tutors and masters, but are monolithic in comparison. I think this was intended, especially in the case of Lecter (Psychopathy as a form of entrapement). Although there are shifts in those characters (Crawford: Methodical or fatherly; Lecter: Calculating and/or deranged). As an autonomous operator, Starling has to rely on her rational methodology (competence) AND her instinctual hunting ((un-)emotional power).
I grew up reading and also have problems with fokusing during reading.
Btw: I recommend reading the work of James Clavell, especially his Far Eastern Stories. Sadly, only a few of his books were ever translated into screenwork (e.g. see th-cam.com/video/XTMVzJBNr5I/w-d-xo.html). There was even a youtube-HDupload for the entire *Shogun* Series (1980 with Richard Chamberlain, Toshirō Mifune) but because of the upcoming movie next year, it seems to have been deleted.

Dude. This video is TRULY fantastic. An excellent analysis, and truly brilliant compare and contrast between the book and movie. Your work is ALWAYS brilliant, but the additional effort also shows through here.
    A+

Thank you so much man. It was a horror to edit both the audio and the video (used a 4K source that my computer processed slowly, had to color correct some parts that were done poorly in the official 4K transfer, and the audio was just evil to me the whole way through). Took me 6-7 weeks. I actually feel feelings of human hatred for it. But I'm also proud of it. I really appreciate you and your encouragement.

Another banger of an analysis video, Gordon. I'm gonna have to rewatch Minority Report before the next one. I loved it when I saw it, but that was about 15+ years ago in a cabin on a family trip, on a TV where the color didn't work (funnily enough I didn't notice because I thought it was just super desaturated, which it is).
I've got high hopes for your TH-cam career. Can't wait for the next analysis to drop

I watched this for the first time as a 10 or 11 year old and didn't understand the scene where buffalo bill tucked his junk between his legs. My little kid mind was like "damn this fool cut his weaner off!!!". It was actually kind of disturbing for me as a kid. Other than that though, I've always loved it. Haven't re watched it in like a decade though.

Well gawlee, it's Avy-lanch Jayred! I hope you watched to the end of this one. I gift-wrapped a nice little present for you.
Also, that's hilarious. I might have thought the same if I'd watched this as a kid. You ought to give TSotL another go as a 30-something-year-old!

Awesome review. Great work on the video. Love to see your new background on the video, too (I've been waiting). Keep it up, man! Another movie added to my watch list. I've always heard a lot about these movies (this one in particular this one), but never got around to it. I'll also consider adding it to my novel list (although that one is much longer than my movie list....) Luckily I've seen and love Minority Report, so I won't need to add that one although I'll be interested to see your review on it. Well done.

Thanks cowboy! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, I was dying to showcase the new and screen. It made trying to finish this video and watching the days turn into weeks that much more agonizing, haw haw.

Loved your recommendation! I can tell you put in the time to really absorb all the details within the film not to mention describing them in an elegant and digestible manner. Reading the novels is now on my list. I also noted your quick reference to The Big O and Prisoners that I'll plan on watching as well.

    • @BabyArms
      @BabyArms  ปีที่แล้ว

Hey, thank you. I'm glad you got something out of this. Man, Prisoners. I can't recommend it highly enough. If you enjoyed this video, I've got a series of others behind it that starts with a Prisoners recommendation, though this one definitely goes into the most depth. And Big O was one of my favorite anime in my late teens and early 20s. I need to get around to rewatching it one of these days. I hope it still holds up. There's either a lot more to it than I realized back then, or possibly a lot less, with my younger self enjoying it and wanting to give it credit and fill in a lot of the blanks for myself. I hope it's the former.
Anyway, thank you so much. Out of curiosity, what brought you to my channel?

@@BabyArms Lol you did! It’s Ryan Root. Sorry, my account name is different. But yeah The Big O gave me that same late 90s anime vibe as Outlaw Star and that was a good recommendation too!

Thank you. I feel hatred for this video as if it's a person, one who took a lot from me. But I'm also proud of it. If you know anyone who'd be interested, maybe tell them about a solid video you saw on The Silence of the Lambs. It's not getting much traction on TH-cam, probably because I went so long without uploading anything.

Thanks Evelyn! I really appreciate it. I recommend the novel versions of both The Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. Thomas Harris is a good writer. Also, from what I've seen of him in the interview I was able to find, he's extremely humble considering he's the guy who came up with Hannibal Lecter.

Although *Hannibal* [2001] proved to be a worthy Sequel and Red Dragon [2002] to be a powerful Prequel, *The Silence of the Lambs* [1991] is clearly the best movie out of the three. In my Opinion it is very difficult to compare Manhunter [1986] to the Prequel Red Dragon, because it has a very unique style (even considering it originated from an older era of movies).

If you liked Ted Levine´s performance in this one, you should probably watch *Bullet (1996)* as well. Hardly anyone knows that movie and I have to wonder why it isn´t more popular? Maybe it toched on controversial topics of that time it was made in? Or maybe it was just to real for the sensitive mainstream audience? I would like to hear your opinion on that @Baby Arms.

Excellent review of this movie. Jodie Foster has always been one of my favorite actors. I have never read the book but the movie stuck with me. If you ever get the chance watch the movie Contact. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one. It's an old movie but she makes the movie. Thanks for the video and the time you took to make it.
