We have the Essence 64. I wonder which firmware version you have? Our firmware seems to have smoothed out some of the concerns you mention. I gather the update for the Excite is different in some ways. We do not use one pedal driving often as the custom setting for drive mode we have set up is good enough. The resetting of other features is definitely something we would love to see changed too. We have decided to store the centre rear headrest in the boot. We are most unlikely to carry 5 people in the car but when we do we will put it back for that trip. While we have a lot of likes our Essence top 5 dislikes are: 1. The radio is Digital and we are just close enough to the edge of coverage that the digital stations often serve up missing words in a so you hear part of the . This means using Apple car play (or Android) This is wired so you need to get this going before you leave the driveway. It often takes 2 goes to connect. Once done it works great even if you get out and go shopping etc. It would be nice if it was not a plug in. It only works on the USB A plug side which seems strange. 2. The missing Frunk. Even a small one as a place to store the supplied trickle charge cable bag. 3. Electric seat adjustment is only on the drivers seat. 4. No automatic wipers even at this price point seems a bit of an oversight. The area behind the rear vision mirror is used for driving safety features I believe, so it may not be easy to set up another sensor there. 5. The limited set of shortcut buttons, including an ON/OFF button. Even just an OFF button would be nice. If you arrive somewhere and are sitting there and need to wait for a bit, getting it to turn off is fiddly. I don’t think I agree about servicing costs but I am a little curious. It is after all a vehicle with a huge lithium battery. If they believe they need to replace some battery cells or completely replace battery cooling stuff every 2 years, then the cost may be reasonable. It seems most unlikely that they are simply seeing it as an opportunity to charge for unnecessary stuff. If that were true why would the 2 year service not be higher?

Have had my MG4 long range Essence for just on 2 weeks and am loving it so far. Only 400km, which included a return trip Melbourne to Queenscliffe (300km round trip), and so far efficiency is pretty good - about 14.5kwh/100km).

agree with all that. had essence 64 since dec. no over air updates is a major problem. very slow responsiveness and start up of the info system shts me every day, along with lack of settings memory. their after sales support is in shambles or non existent, their dealers are completely useless and just lie quite frankly. the 6kw ac charging is also a prob for me but I was unaware it would be at time of purchase - long range with 11kw would have been better for me. other than that, a lot to love.

If they price the RWD G6 at AU$49,990 DOTD (DriveawayOutTheDoor) in WA [the most expensive state to buy a car] it could sell well, but guessing they will price it at AU$58,990 WA DOTD

Also had my MG4 51 since end of September, same kms. Have not done it for a long time, but stopped the other day and reached to take my keys out of the ignition Doh! Also have a diesel van that I infrequently drive, and I have to sit in it and think for 40 seconds about how to drive it.

I've had my 64 Essence for about 2wks less than you've had yours. I am really enjoying it. No charging issues for me I have it scheduled in the app and charge from 12am-6am on a 15amp charger to 80%. I turn off lka everytime I get in and turn on opd. I've done just over 11000kms now.

Nice 6 month review! I too noticed the issue with charging not starting always when plugged in. Sometimes, need to unplug and plug again. Not sure what the issue is

I have the same as yours from the same dealer, love it, great honest review, I have been lucky to have no issues at all, the not charging issue can be avoided by always unlocking when charging with the key fob button, then quickly plug in, then let it auto lock, and it works every time for me, I also saw they are testing ota car updates in France, so I'm sure they are coming to the car in the future 😊

Definitely not a perfect car but I do love mine

The version I got from your link is a such a load of crap. Can get to configuration screen (as you show in the video) via mobile phone, set the delay to 15 seconds. Powered down, re-connected the crap piece of sh#t and lo and behold and wont even boot up at all and I only get is the red lights. I did wait over 20 minutes to see if there was something I missed, but no I tried everything I could think of and it refuses to work as expected. The ONLY way to get consistent startups is to put a power switch to the USB port and switch it ON once the car is powered. This is what I built and tested with few issues, annoying yes but works a damn more times then what you recommended.

Ordered and followed your video on a MG4 with R46 software version…. No luck, sometimes it has to connect 30 or more times and then it works sometimes it take 30 min or more like that and don’t work always light up the CarPlay logo but black screen :(…. I have an iPhone 15Pro

its amazing the ai emergency braking, but i can not bealive they dont use more sensors or Light radars to be sure there is an object about to collide with the car.

Having watched this video I bought the Carlinkit from Aliexpress, it was out of stock on Amazon. It arrived quickly and is working well without changing any settings. It's running CarPlay on a Peugeot.

Also found to avoid the black screen when it launches is in settings to toggle Background to ON

i had the Original Calinket 5.0 Air2 and send it back wasn't even possible to work on my MG4 with iPhone 15 Pro, will try this one it's a clone I think cause it has the same menu.. Did you do the test when you are both in the car with you're Android and iPhone can you switch with this unit or is it the first phone in row who connects ?

My MG4 standard edition charges at 1.8 kilowatts when half full. My 32 amp tethered charger charges at 6.6 kilowatts when half full.

Its the new insruance trick they do for all cars regardless. YOUI doubled on my sorrento to 2000 from 1200 . All it took was a phone call to complain and they brought down to 1200 again

John Cadogan demonstrated one problem with V2L. That is that a number of devices - including your air conditioner and your refrigerator, devices that you will certainly want to run if there's an extended blackout - impose a surge load (albeit for a few seconds at most) that is much much higher than the constant load. And whilst that is OK if you run off the grid, that may cause you issues with V2L.

Would be good to do away with a dongle adapter and plug directly into a type I port in the car. Maybe one day we'll get that, and maybe one day engineers will allow the type I port to also charge the battery, in case the one and only charge port on the car gets damaged and unusable rendering the whole car unusable.

Nice work around. My only concern is that the voltage dropped from 235V before charging started, to 220V once it was pulling 30A (about 7% voltage drop which is too much). The regs only allow for 5% over an entire installation from point of supply. It's a very short subcircuit, so there should be barely any voltage drop there, so maybe get the sparky to check your mains. This often happens when the supply neutral has a bad connection and current is returning through the earth connection.

I don't think your kettle would use 1.5 kwh, it might draw 1.5 kw but won't take an hour to boil

Thanks for the down to earth practical review. Modern EV dilemma - how to get manufacturers backed by fossil fuel companies and dealers interested in selling a vehicle they cannot make money out of. We should have had this vehicle and many more like them driving in our cities years ago but it was only going to happen with Government intervention. Thumbs up to Elon for forcing change.

Concurred. Am going for the 64kwh. The driving range tradeoff is too huge.....can't afford the range anxiety
