- Yes I know it's not "free" - but MG Motors threw the keys to a 320kW MG4 XPOWER at me, who am I to say no?
This (ridiculous) little EV is all wheel drive, dual motor, and has enough speed to see off 99.8% of cars you'll see on the roads. How good is it when you're just driving around town, or taking it on a weekend country drive? In the next few videos, we'll find out! And the big question.... should you consider purchasing one?
Many thanks to MG Motors Australia for the loan of this manic little machine. This will still be a totally independent, honest opinion of the Xpower, from the perspective of someone who bought an MG4 Excite 51 and has been driving it since September 2023. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
I actually love the black roof with no "panorama" or sun roof. Was part of what made me get the car :D
Driving my Model 3 today and toasting my bald head reminds my why panoramic roofs aren't always the answer
In a tropical country panoramic sunroof is a mistake
the Xpower gives you smiles per miles
Certainly does, and with the recent price drop ($60,00 driveaway?) the Xpower is an amazing deal now! Rumours are the Cyberster is going to start from $80k which I can't wait to see, as I've always owned convertibles!
Great episode. Looking forward to the next one! Curious about range and charge times too.
Thanks for the feedback - will have a couple of vids in the next week, a general overall review, plus direct comparisons with my 51 and model 3. Range is 400km at 100% capacity, charge rate is... well, slow if you use the provided charger. I've got about 1.3kW per hour on my 51, and it's no different on the xpower. So, filling from dead empty to full on a 64kW battery at 1.3kW/hour is 49 hours with the included MG slow charger - will cover this in more detail at some far future time
The X Power has bigger rotors and callipers. It also has ventelated rear rotors.
Yes you're right, after a little more digging the Xpower has 345mm ventilated rotors all around. There's no mention of that on the MG Aus website, and you'd think they would make more of a statement about it. The website does say there's "XPOWER Branded Metallic Caliper Covers" which is kind of like boasting you've got fake AMG badges on your A180. However after giving the xpower a bit of a drive on my favourite roads, that increase in rotor diameter isn't enough of a braking improvement for a car with this much power.
@@bozugarage they should just a few hundred $ and put real brembo brakes on.
@@fredfrond6148 100% agree
The weight difference between your Excite and the XPower is 165kg, which is almost 10% of the Excite weight. I would like to know the difference in steering feel when navigating around shopping centre carparks, whether the change in the modes also change the steering ratio along with throttle rate, any suspension changes, does the XPower become more unsettled than the Excite. Thanks Tim, looking forward to the next instalment.
Yep, that weight difference is like having one old fat guy like me sitting the back. Certainly at normal driving speed, manouvering speed, there's no detectable difference in steering weight or feedback - it seems the extra front motor was integrated without losing any steering feel which is quite impressive. And couldn't detect any steering ratio changes, same amount of steering effort was required no matter what mode I was in. Good and bad - feels 100% like an Excite 51 in normal driving, but totally different when you plant your right foot. Needs more brake.
@@bozugarage Thanks for replying, with regards to the brakes does all your MG have the one pedal driving update installed and working?
@@teinspringz well my excite 51 was delivered with one pedal driving enabled few months ago, so yes
Honestly, when I see the hood prop rod, I feel like seeing a car from 80s. Get a gas strut or two. I mean, really?
nah that'd cost at least a few extra cents per car. But I guess the hood only needs to be lifted once every few years since there's no front storage anyway.
make sure to try launch mode..
I should've read the manual, didn't know there was a launch mode 😂 Takes off rapidly in any case
9:14 I don't understand why the Excite doesn't have the MG Electric text on the front of the gear selector. Aren't we electric too?
My excite has the "MG Electric" text there? What country are you in - maybe different markets have different text?
Double the amount of tyre left on the tar too.🎉😂
I think there's a lot more black lines on the roads around my house than a week ago! 😁Excellent grip though, very little slip on hard launches.
@@bozugarage a great car for sure.
Leave your sheepskin wool covers off the seat.😂
Like the video, but lose the music, it’s rediculous, and makes it had to hear what you’re saying.
Don't think I put any/much music in this video? I had problems with a few other videos and autolevelling not working with music.
