- First time seeing and driving an MG4 (Long Range 77), after placing an order for an Excite 51 in June 2023. Driving impressions and summary.
The price of the MG4 Long Range (in Victoria) is $59,841. Pretty much what a Tesla Model 3 RWD costs. And I've gotta say, faced with that decision I'd take the Tesla every single time.

Hi, great video, this is the 1st review I have seen on the 77 extended range which is the model I am keen on, but here in NZ it's going for $63990.00 and with a clean car rebate of $7015.00, want it for the extra power it gives over standard model (241bhp), longer range also a plus lol. Did you do any sport mode driving with it surely it must be quicker over standard mg4, sure I can get a Tesla but don't like just a screen for everything, speedo, etc and it also how you open the glove box . The cost of a Model 3 Performance has dropped from $95,900 to $93,500. Meanwhile the standard Model Y's price has fallen sub-$70,000, now sitting at $67,500 before inroads, or $69,587 on the road. Chop the $7015 rebate off and the net on-road cost is $62,572. The Model Y was previously $70,900. 1/07/2023.
So model 3 is far more expensive than MG4 Extended Range, any way enjoyed your comments cheers.
Sorry might have priced the Tesla wrong, I gave the performance price and not standard, here's the correct price, The standard rear-drive Model 3 is now just $62,500 before on-roads ($64,587 after) and the $7015 CCD rebate, meaning it drops to $57,572 after the first registration. Still wouldn't want one lol.
Thanks mate first time I've done a review video :) Was going to say here in Aus the MG4 77 long range and the model 3 RWD aren't much different in price and clearly the same is in new zealand too. As an owner of a model 3 RWD and soon to be owner of an MG4, I've gotta say the Tesla blows away the MG4 long range, it's not even close. Won't try to convince you otherwise but you should definitely drive them back to back before you make up your own mind. And if you decide to go Tesla, use my referral link to save NZD $800 :)
@@bozugarage i thought about getting the mg4 excite too from driving my phev. however, a quick search on carsales already found that a second hand of 2020 model 3 isnt a lot more expensive than the mg4 and the range, software tech and charging facilities are far superior. Still contemplating which one to get. The only downside i would think about tesla is the very stiff rear suspension....
@@tobychow I have a 2022 model 3 RWD, unsure if the suspension design is different from a 2020 but mine handles and rides superb. Go and test drive the 2020 model 3, then go drive something like a BYD atto 3 for comparison and you'll instantly appreciate the difference.
Did you say the range at 100%?
In the UK, the top spec is called Trophy. I wonder why they give it a different name in Aus?
Do you have solar on your home to give you free juice?
Ah... no, didn't take notice of the range - it was not fully charged when I picked it up (I think!) as it was a demonstrator car going on drives all day. Not unusual for cars to be given different trim levels and names in different countries, though it'd make it a lot easier if they were standardised. At the moment - no solar, but will look into it soon as we will have two EVs when we eventually receive delivery of the MG4.
