Yamaha TAG3 vs Loopy Pro: Which is better for acoustic live looping?

Yamaha’s new TransAcoustic comes with built-in looper, but do you really need to buy one to get started with live looping? I recently released a video (th-cam.com/video/NGYtZMmxgOw/w-d-xo.html) where I claimed I found the best drums for the iPad. Well, the same company, @klevgrand has just released a new plugin that’s even better! There are some amazing presets. One of the standout features is how this plugin responds to dynamics. It doesn’t just change the volume based on how hard you hit the pad. The character of...

Great stuff. It would be helpful to see your routing for this setup
127 is because the binary code multiples 0 + 127= 128 8, 16, 32, 64, 128...Thank you for the great video, any tutorial to program the Loopy Pro with the MC-6?
You probably should mention early on this is for iPhone. I have an Android and pretty much wasted my time.

Can this midi compartable with macos?
Beautiful video! Thank you! Do you know if Rig Kontrol 3 would work with Loopy Pro? I don't think it's USB class compliant.
Anything for android phones?
So could I use my midi maestro by singular sound? Thanks !!🤘❤️
Could I somehow hook up my ipad/iphone with my midi maestro from singular sound? If so, how? Thanks!!
ps do you have a more recent similar video to cover new boss products ? RC 505 mkii etc - No-one has ever explained the logic and questions like this before repurchase - so good.
Congratulations. This is the vey best video on this topic. It is way above any others - very clear. and helpful well done Max
your playing is so smooth ❤ thanks for the vid
was good, but the high pitch alarm was a bit much
This Sounds awesome! Lovely chord progression
Thank you! Is it possible to use Rig Kontrol 3 as audio i/o and a midi controller in this setup?
I like the philosophy behind this. You don't have to keep buying gear - use what you have. Sure, if you want to buy the Yamaha TAG3, go right ahead - it looks great. But you don't have to - there is a workaround, and the solution to developing as a musician, and enjoying music, is to focus on the music, not on the gear.
I’m trying to learn loopy app but I can’t understand it, could you please make more tutorials 😊
OC3 is SUPPOSED to be a good pedal but you litterally need to set it up a different way for each song you play since the threshold needs to be different depending on the chord progression. No liberty. I had it for a couple of months and sold it. Hated it.
Awesome video Max
Thaanks 😊
Thanks for the video!!! Can you show a screen shot of the settings of the loop in LP. The one that you reversed, and set it to double speed and pitch up? I would like to see how it looks on the screen. Thanks
Hey! You can download the template for free - www.loopymax.com/adam-miller-template - and see how it's done. Basically, it’s done through a follow action for that clip. When it starts the initial recording, the rate changes to -2x
Strange thing I faced with. Long press was not recognized when chocolate connected via cable, and it works OK via bluetooth.
I just checked, and for me, the same commands are sent whether connected via cable or Bluetooth. You might want to test it using the MIDI Wrench app, as shown in this video, to see what’s actually being sent th-cam.com/video/USXsHcefh_Q/w-d-xo.html
A more indepth tutorial on more complex drums would be awesome!
I’m on it! 😊 stay tuned
Hi Max. Brilliant channel, full of great ideas - and great music. A question, if I may. I followed your example and just got a Zoom H6. But in ‘interface mode’ it’s not possible to record to the H6, and in ordinary mode, the H6 doesn’t show as an input or output to Loopy Pro so it’s only good for using as a high quality mic. Or am I missing something? Many thanks.
Thanks! 😊 You’ll need to use the Zoom H6 in interface mode to get it working properly with Loopy Pro. While the H6 itself can’t record in this mode, Loopy Pro has a built-in recorder that lets you capture your entire jam. Just look for the REC button in the top-right corner. In the Configuration settings, you can choose what to record-input signal, loops, output mix, and even effects. Everything is customizable. For most cases, selecting Combined Output or Combined Input and Output works best. If storage is a concern, you can disable Lossless Recording to save space. Once everything is set up, just hit Start Recording, and you’re good to go! Hope that helps!
Fantastic. Max, that’s really helpful. I missed the cobvious solution! Thanks again for the inspiring music.
a tad expensive @ 200€.. but not a bad product at all ;) thanks for the video ! Have you got any input on the Loopy Pro 2.0 is coming out ? cheers
Yeah, it’s a bit pricey, but definitely a solid product ☺️ As for Loopy Pro 2.0, I don’t know the release timeline, but when it drops, I might do a review focused on useful features for guitarists
Your playing is insane my man, and your videos are super helpful! Thank you sir 🫡
Thanks so much! 😊 Really appreciate it! Glad the videos are helpful, more to come!
Hey Max, what makes you use the tonestack effects rather than the ones on the Stomp? And given that you do so. Would there be an advantage to use the Stomp rather than a usual audio interface? For once you already limited to have only one input for the guitar... Thanks for your awesome videos.
Hey! At the time of recording, I was still experimenting and wasn’t sure whether I’d stick with the HX Stomp for effects or switch to a regular audio interface and run all effects on the iPad. So I was basically testing the HX Stomp as if it were just an audio interface. If you plan to use only iOS effects, the HX Stomp is quite expensive for that purpose. In that case, it’s essentially just an audio interface with three footswitches. Sure, it’s convenient to have everything in one box, but it might be overkill for that setup. That said, the HX Stomp actually has 4 inputs and multiple stereo outputs, so you can split your mix-like sending a click to headphones while keeping the main mix clean for the audience. I really love this unit despite its limitations. I think I’ll make a dedicated video on how well it integrates with Loopy Pro. Thanks for the question!
@@max_yar_guitar thanks so much for the comprehensive answer!
Bought the chocolate plus version. Not sure if its any better for this purpose 😅
Let me know if you find any standout features! 😅 Curious to hear if it brings anything extra for this setup
I'm confused... I see the Chocolate and the Chocolate +... What's the difference (if any) for using with Loopy Pro ? (please pardon me for not seeing, watching, nor reading any major differences between the two 4sw pedals)
I haven’t had a chance to try the Chocolate+, so I can’t say how it’s better. In this video, I’m using the regular Chocolate, and I can vouch for it-it works great! 😊
great stuff Max! My current Loopy layout has grown rather complex and "full featured"... Tonight I had a blast just downloading this template and enjoying the simplicity of it. Really fun to play with! Thank you Max
Thank you so much, I totally agree. With Loopy Pro, there’s so much you can do that sometimes the template grows too complex, and you lose a bit of control. But when you go back to a simple project with one, two, or three loops, you regain that control, and the focus shifts back to playing music on your instrument 😌
Great video again 👌 I discovered Loopy Pro, because of you! Glad that you started and didn't stop making these vids! ✌
Thank you so much! 😊 That means a lot! 🙌 More cool stuff is on the way-stay tuned
Not a quick start, this is an ad
A+
Haha thanks!
Great video as always Max! Is it possible to get a hold of the jazzy Adam sound or how you make it?
Hey Andre! Thanks! The key element is that I’m using only the sound from the magnetic pickup, without a mic. Then it goes into BYOD. I use a few units in BYOD: Clean Gain > Graphic EQ with a 1k boost > Compressor > Blonde Tone > Chorus > Flanger. If you’d like the exact preset, drop me a line at hello@loopymax.com, and I’ll send it to you!
@@max_yar_guitar What is this BYOD thing? All I can find on a search is the "Bring your own device" initiative.
@@RAMholistichealing It’s a free plugin by ChowDSP-some sort of guitar multi-FX chain, like GuitarRig or BiasFX. BYOD stands for ‘Build Your Own Distortion.’ I’ve been using it as my tone shaper lately (9:45) and it’s quite a versatile tool!

absolutly fantastic!❤ just discovered your channel (and the possibilities of loopypro). you are very inspiring. will probably buy your loopy pro course very soon. i also like the music you produce with loopypro. and in case of this video with very very little gear😊
Thank you so much! 😊 Really glad you discovered the channel!
Hi! I loved the idea of configuring one button for PLAY/REC/STOP, OVERDUB (Double Tap), and CLEAN (Hold Tap) in Loopy Pro. However, I’m facing an issue with this setup. If I don’t enable the “Defer Other Actions” option for Double Tap and Hold Tap, the pedal immediately interprets any press as “ON,” which prevents the other functions from working properly. But if I enable it, the “ON” gets a delay for starting and pausing the recording, which makes live performances difficult. Do you have any suggestions to fix this? I’m using the SoftStep 3 by Keith McMillen Instruments. Thank you!
I think Max is just promoting Loopy Pro.
Hey Max, thanks for the great templates, and all your other content. Any chance you could share a screenshot of the control settings/MIDI bindings for the 'MULTILOOPS' template please? They're not present in the project download, so the M-Vave won't work with it. The bindings are all there in the other two projects and work great. Cheers in advance!
Красавчик! Респект. Тоже юзаю такой айфон для создания музыки (Гитара и Koala Sampler)
Спасибо!! Koala Sampler - мощная штука
Dude, i love u. Just bought an iPhone 16 pro and was searching for a live looping setup, and since the new pro has a very good mic, I think you just saved me a bunch of money ❤ I subbed
Haha, thanks, dude! 😄 Congrats on the new iPhone! And yeah, the mic on it is awesome for looping
Wow! You are vary generous!!
Thank you so much! ☺️
How do I setup the auto loop detection? I can’t seem to get that to work?
Go to upper right corner, there is a sandwitch menu > Clip Settings > find Auto Loop Detection > turn it on. If it’s not working, try it in the new default project
Thanks 🙏🏻 I’ll try that.
Hi Max, you are doing a wonderful job……Does look pro has its own sound bank or how do you bring drum sounds into loopy pro please ?
Thanks for the comment! 😊 Loopy Pro doesn’t have built-in drum sounds, but you can easily import your own samples. These could be full drum beat patterns (e.g., 4 bars) to loop or individual one-shot samples like a kick or snare. You can trigger them directly in Loopy Pro’s interface. Example th-cam.com/video/T1es9YAlvWY/w-d-xo.html Alternatively, you can use third-party plugins like Digistix 2, Koala Sampler, One Shot, or Hammerhead for drums. Example th-cam.com/video/uEr2vBi64Ik/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/_IXe7YSIdLs/w-d-xo.html Lots of options!
So simple and yet so beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Hi Max. Been loving all your videos about loopy pro. Just want to ask if I could connect two mvave-chocolate midi controller into loopy pro so that I coudl have 8 buttons? Thanks.
Yes you can!Hi! Thanks so much for enjoying the videos! 😊 I haven’t had the chance to test connecting two M-Vave controllers yet, but as soon as I figure it out, I’ll make a separate post about it in the Community tab 🙌
Friend, I have a question about the weight of the Loopy pro application and the components that can be installed (Let me explain). The Loopy Pro application weighs around 35Mb, but if you want to add external effects in third-party app format, plus pianos...batteries , etc....how much can it be despite everything? My question is because I want to buy a 128GB iPad, and I don't know if I will fall short. What is your experience on the subject? What do you have installed, reverbs, delays...drums,...pianos, etc? Thank you and greetings!!
Thanks for your question! 😊 Based on my experience, I used to work with a 64GB iPad 9, and now I use a 64GB iPad Air, and I’ve never run out of space. Plugins themselves don’t take up much storage - what can take up more space are sample libraries. For example: OneShot with all default libraries is 1.86GB, Digistix2 is 640MB. The heaviest plugin I have is ToneStack Pro, a guitar plugin, which is 286MB. I don’t use piano plugins, so I’m not sure how big those libraries can get.Hope that helps! Cheers!
@@max_yar_guitar Max, thank you very much for the clarification. and ultimately for your great work with the Loopy pro
Who the heck downvotes a video like this? Great job max!
Haha thanks!!
It doesnt work without charging iphone/ipad?
I tested it on an iPad Air, and it works perfectly without charging the iPad and without using batteries in the Zoom. As for iPhone, I’m not sure because my 10-year-old Zoom no longer works with batteries 😊
