My brain 🧠 rest took 3 more months. Being older not growing up with computers has challenges for me. Again I’m attempting to learn Loopy Pro and interface.
Thanks Max. I bought a Chocolate Midi controller. I find that it works great and fits in my guitar case along with the iPad and audio interface. Unlike your controller the Chocolate only gives you one trigger for each button for a total of four triggers. There may be other ways to configure it but my needs are usually simple. For more complex needs (like changing keys and multiple stompbox effects) I have a real old MIDI controller I bought for $10. It requires a 9v power input but I work around that with a cellphone charger. It can be configured for eighty buttons. I've never needed more than the 9 available. The neat thing about Loopy Pro is that you're not limited to a single MIDI controller or anything else for that matter. The MIDI learn function is powerful. The constant upgrades to the program just amaze me. The best $20 I've ever spent on music equipment.
Hey Max, great video and thanks for the intensive tutorial. The numbers go from 0 to 127, so you have 128 in total which is a 7-bit MIDI operation 7 bit equals 128 values.
@max_yar_guitar I can answer why 127) It's common programmer knowledge. Everything stores as 0 or 1, so with 1 *slot* we can send 2 different values. If we have 2 slots we can encode 4 different values. To encode 100 different values we need 7 slots, or 7 bits. It have no cost to encode 128 in that way) And 127 because of zero value. PC uses ASCII table to encode latin characters and digits into 7 bites, when your press key on keyboard (and up to 32 bits in case of international utf-8), same mechanism :)
Excellent video, thank you. There are so many settings possible, it's hard to know which to select. I have a BlueBoard but i find it finicky. It will change modes without me realizing that I did it. It also registers alot of 'Holds' with the clunky buttons. I have several of the Boss 2 or 3 button FS-6 TSR controllers, but I'm going to try to program LP using the Nektar Pacer Midi Controler. It should be easier using the Learn Midi function. Anyway, thanks again!
This is a fantastic tutorial, Max, even by your thorough and very high standards. So many of the operations of Loopy Pro are beginning to make sense. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered that using the Blueboard it’s not possible to send a ‘hold’ message to, for instance, the ‘Erase’ button, or indeed to any of the FX commands; maybe this cannot be done with Bluetooth pedals in general, or is it just a Blueboard issue, because the connection is not continuous, only sending ‘on/off’ messages? Any ideas for a workaround? Maybe I would need a second pedal sending ‘single press’ commands to enable ‘erase’ - or a hard-wire connected pedal. In any case, thanks again. Terrific content.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don’t have a Blueboard to check, but I did a bit of online research, and it seems like it sends an ON message (on press) and an OFF message (on release). You might be able to check this yourself as shown at 14:26. If it sends a CC message with a value of 127 when you press and the same CC message with a value of 0 when you release, then you can set up an action for HOLD in Loopy Pro. Hope this helps! If not, let me know
Thank you Max. Excellent explanation. You mentioned about other controllers. I have a Nektar Pacer. It is a great controller, but the information available for programming it is very sparse. I am sure there are many with this controller. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I loved the idea of configuring one button for PLAY/REC/STOP, OVERDUB (Double Tap), and CLEAN (Hold Tap) in Loopy Pro. However, I’m facing an issue with this setup. If I don’t enable the “Defer Other Actions” option for Double Tap and Hold Tap, the pedal immediately interprets any press as “ON,” which prevents the other functions from working properly. But if I enable it, the “ON” gets a delay for starting and pausing the recording, which makes live performances difficult. Do you have any suggestions to fix this? I’m using the SoftStep 3 by Keith McMillen Instruments. Thank you!
Liking everything you do with Loopy Pro, I was following your instructions In the video, From 20:14 - 20:45 I got a little frustrated as to why I can’t get RECORD PLAY STOP, to STOP (after many retry’s ) on the third touch of the button, It just kept on cycling instead of stopping at beginning of the bar as you stated, I can only guess there’s something in the settings that you hadn’t shown us to change, before coming out of edit and trialing the button. I did, however manage to get the ERASE to work. Haven’t yet tried to set up OVERDUB. Please help, many thanks.
Thanks! Are you sure that you choose the right action from the list of Clip Actions? It should be "Play/Stop" action. Also, this action follows the general quantization settings. If you’ve changed them, you can revert to the default settings. The easiest way to do this is to reset all settings to default. Go to the sandwich menu > Clip Settings > scroll down to the bottom and click the “Restore Defaults” button

Awesome video Max. With your help I've figured out how to use single tap on my M-Wave Chocolate to Play/Rec/Stop. Do you know if this pedal allows for "Hold" and "Double-Tap"? I've been using CubeSuite but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a better app for programming the pedal buttons? Thanks so much for your awesome videos and I'm really enjoying your course.
Thank you! I’m glad the videos and course are helpful! For the M-Wave Chocolate, the best setup for versatile control is using the Manufacturer Control preset in CubeSuite. In that mode, the controller sends an ON signal when you press the button and an OFF signal upon release. From there, you can set up the actions in Loopy Pro as shown in my video. Also, I’m planning a video specifically on this controller soon! If you have any other questions or suggestions for it, feel free to let me know

I bought an M-Vave after watching this video but I am having a hard time figuring out the set up. Its not the same as morning star. M-Vave is not listening for midi event. if i manually change to CC its not going back to listening mode? Would you have a set up for M-Vave?
You’re mixing apples and oranges. The M-Vave MIDI controller isn’t supposed to be in Listening Mode. It only sends signals, and Loopy Pro receives them. When we select MIDI Learn in Loopy Pro and it is listening for events, it means Loopy Pro is waiting for an incoming signal from the MIDI controller to map it to a button. So, first, you need to configure the M-Vave controller to send commands, and then map those commands to buttons in Loopy Pro. I don't have a tutorial for the M-Vave controller, but this article might help wiki.loopypro.com/Footswitches
Hi Max, my name is Andrea Bonardi, I bought your loopy pro on line tutorial, but there wasn't much about setting up pedal midi controller especially bluetooth irig blueboard, the one i have. Hi Andrea! It's very simple! Just connect the irig blueboard via Bluetooth, then press MIDI learn, then select a loop, then press the button on the Irig. That's all! Here is the time code by which I do this in the video: th-cam.com/video/USXsHcefh_Q/w-d-xo.html. And here is another useful video: th-cam.com/video/ScxELIJHinE/w-d-xo.html. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them to me.
Hi Max when I do the midi learn quick tap loopypro says cc-hold 🤷♂️ any idea why this might happen? I retry and tap button very fast and same result.??
Most likely, the midi controller only sends CC value 127 (press) and does not send CC value 0 (release). Therefore, Loopy Pro thinks you pressed the pedal and hold. You can adjust the midi controller itself. Or you can change Hold to On manually in Loopy Pro. To do this, simply press Hold, in the MIDI Learn mode after you triggered the footswitch
Hey Max! I need your help. I have 2 seperate channel out of my guitar(1-soundhole mag 2-sbt pickup) and want to manage channels seperately with my iphone or pc.(like drive, octave, delay, whammy on mag and just a bit reverb on sbt pickup for adding air to sound) Obviusly i need an audio interface. At this point do i need a something special with low latency or any other is enough for me(also iphone compatibility). I make gig once a month and output of the interface goes to PA system so im not gonna just record 2 seperate. İm planning to use interface and pc/iphone as a pedalboard and play live with them.Do you have any suggestion ?
Hey! This was exactly the question I had before. I also have two pickups on my guitar. First, I bought the HX Stomp because it has two input channels and a pretty flexible routing. But there is a limitation - only 8 FX blocks per preset. I didn't like the PC option. But the option with the iPhone/iPad appealed to me. Essentially, all you need is a good audio interface that works with iPhone/iPad. In the Loopy Pro Users group, this is often discussed. Among the favorites there are interfaces like RME, Zoom, Arturia MiniFuse 4, Motu M6, Behringer Flow 8. In the group, you can read reviews specifically about working with iOS and latency issues. I personally still use HX Stomp with iOS because it can work as an audio interface. But my friend uses the IK Multimedia iRig Pro Quattro and is very satisfied. They have a version for 2 channels - IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo. I plan to shoot a separate video for guitarists about transitioning from hardware FX pedals to iOS plugins. I'll be happy to take your questions for this video
My conclusions: + compact and very inexpensive; there is a built-in battery (convenient) + connects via USB-C; in this mode it works perfectly without lags + connected by air - it works with micro-lags by air, but it's not cool for recording loops; ok for switching effects - the buttons are very tight, and the sound from pressing them is very loud - my microphone inside the guitar catches it very well
How sad I am to learn that Loopy Pro is only compatible with Apple products. I hope that will change someday as I only have Android and Windows hardware.
I bought a used iPhone for $40 just to use Loopy Pro, and have no regrets. Unfortunately, Android is really tough for a small developer to work on while maintaining high standards. There are just too many thousands of versions out there. I only use Android, other than my Loopy dedicated old iPhone.
@@anthonywestbrook2155 Anthony. Well said. Although I use Apple 🍎 products you’ve made an excellent point. I had an old lightning port iPad I dedicated for Loopy Pro. When my family upgrades phones I will wipe them for resale on Craigslist. Selling them for $20 to $180 depending on memory in excellent condition. I would recommend this for a dedicated low cost looper.

Thank you Max!
How's the chocolate midi bt foot controller? Latency on BT but ok on data cable?
My conclusions:
+ compact and very inexpensive; there is a built-in battery (convenient)
+ connects via USB-C; in this mode it works perfectly without lags
+ connected by air
- it works with micro-lags by air, but it's not cool for recording loops; ok for switching effects
- the buttons are very tight, and the sound from pressing them is very loud - my microphone inside the guitar catches it very well

Anthony.
Perfect guide with this visualisation.
