The Neurocuriosity Club
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ม.ค. 2015
The Neurocuriosity Club is the only TH-cam channel (that I know of, anyway) made for people who think they MIGHT be autistic, or they MIGHT be ADHD, or they MIGHT be both (or neither??) and just aren't sure.
For "neurocurious" people, as I call it.
I was neurocurious for a very long time (nearly a decade) so believe me, I get it.
My name is Megan Griffith, I'm officially diagnosed with both autism and ADHD (combined type) and I want to use this channel to help neurocurious people better understand their brains and themselves.
New videos go live every Tuesday, and I do livestreams every Friday!
Thanks for watching!

This was really helpful. Sometimes I get overwhelmed starting tasks. I use this Astirna New Tab extension to keep my priorities straight. It helps me focus on what I need to do next.

I'm scared because... I do feel like I am autistic. I have loads of (internal) struggles that can't really be anything BUT autism... I also have been diagnosed with adhd and Depression but I just know there's parts of me that can't be explained with just that... but also, I havent been bullied and I have many great friends? and I don't prefer animals over people. I have learned how people work and I'm very interested in that and I like talking to people and learning more about how they work but I don't understand animals like that... So I actually really prefer people over animals. So I don't know... I'm confused. and scared I'm lying to myself somehow...
Around 7:33, I resonated with how you described your meltdowns. You mention taking medication to reduce the frequency, what kind of medication is it? I feel like I could benefit from this
I don't share the exact meds I'm on for lots of reasons, but the general medication class is a mood stabilizer/anti-psychotic!
I really liked you until you med-shamed. It must be nice to have the resources and the ability to not take medicine.
@@Fikthis123aassg I absolutely take medication for my mental health. I really try not to med shame, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Waiting mode... 😆 yes. i thought i only used up a whole day on nothing to just have 1 appointment.
I’m just learning how to manage wavy/curly hair. I’ve had straight hair my whole life but when I hit menopause… surprise, surprise… I now have curly hair. (Don’t know how that happened, but it did Lol). Here’s my “easy” curly hair tip: Wash hair. Texturizer spray (optional). Curl-defining Mousse. Diffuser attachment on my hair dryer. Scrunching as I dry. It only takes a few minutes to do but I was able to tame my newly wavy/curly hair pretty quickly and the curls last for a few days. (Note: my hair is somewhat long so I only wash it 2x per week.) I put “easy” in quotes because it does take me a few more minutes to do than just washing and going about my day, like I was able to do when my hair was straight. But it’s a pretty quick process nonetheless. 🙂
Can I purchase just the money binder? I don't need the whole goody bag resources but really need help with managing money, hence I can't justify spending $27 😊
Can you update your links? Thanks
This was excellent thank you
I was diagnosed with autism (Aspergers syndrome) in 2015 - 2016. There is also a 40% possibility I could be ADHD. I was then diagnosed schizophrenic in 2016 - 2017. Only recently am I maybe getting somewhere ever since I've mentioned the massive overlap of symptoms between autism and schizophrenia now. I'm quite emotional about it. I've lost years of my life to having a schizophrenia diagnosis.
I'm so happy I found this video! It is amazing how you crammed all these important symptoms into 10 min in a very understandable way! Thank you! Always so happy to find short good videos I can show to the people close to me that don’t understand why I don’t function like a neurotypical person
I am currently 16 years old and I've struggled with neurodivergency for a really long time, I always feel alone about it because I'm not the stereotype, nobody I've met is like me and my friends, parents, and therapist don't get it. It's very stressful esspecially when I don't have answers because that shit is expensive and nobody believes me but this makes me feel a little bit more seen
Yes yes I am right there with everything you just said 😢
I was hoping for a solution 😢. But great advice
That was first glass. Absolutely A-grade. Thank you. Objectively a very worthy bit of work. I'm very grateful for thr video and I shall check out you other stuff now. James
This is my first audhd video after a confirmed diagnosis this afternoon. Woot!
Omg, congrats on your diagnosis!!!
18 out of 21.
recently been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD and i also have a bachelors degree in science majoring in psychology and i felt a little called out by 10:24 cuz that was the main reason i chose it lool
😊Thank you. Dear. Great Tips... Tarot, stimming, journaling, talking bout masking unmasking it to ur near Dear ones. 😊👍👌💐 ॐ नमः शिवाय। राधे कृष्ण।
I 100 % agree
Thank you, the shorts I didn't even know I needed (to unsubscribe)
ti LOVE how you explain masking - i was struggling to word why it isn't as simple as an on/off switch for me, where i'm aware of a "mask" that isn't me, it's more like i look down at the tower of blocks that are and aren't me and i have to carefully jenga it apart to avoid losing my sense of myself
I should just show this video to all my professors at the beginning of each semester. Also employers after being hired. This is hard for me to explain and you did this beautifully.
I abandoned that piece of culture for myself, but people like you who gives this instead of consumerism is the most beautiful it has
Wow❤
It's funny because I was diagnosed just about six months ago and try to unmask as good as I can. My husband recently said that he is a bit afraid that I could hit him when I would be on medication. The reason I was mad at him was that he was, again, taking something I've said and repeated it with slightly different words as "his thought" to me. And that really annoyed me because he does this, amongst other things, since we've met more than two decades ago. And it really pisses me off for at least 15 years now and although he treated me so poorly that people wonder why we are still together, I have RARELY said anything. And if, I often APOLOGIZE for being difficult! To this day I had no idea why I always internalise everything in an instant but now it makes sense! I got it wrong the whole time. It's like I just sucked all his bad energy into the void inside my sould because I didn't know how to handle it otherwise. I really had no idea how severe my emotional difficulties are but it explaines why life is so hard for me and why I always feel so misunderstood. There are so many occassions where I am overwhelmed and then say nothing because I can't handle the situation. I think that I shut down in some way at one point because it became too much to handle. There is this figure people see every day who is a bit shy and introverted but seems to have her life together, when in reality there is just chaos and darkness inside of me and at no point in my life did I have the feeling of being in control. And I turn 50 in two months, am married with an adult child and worked most of the time in my life since I was 16. (14 if an afte- school-job three times a week counts as well). Life always was a huge struggle and still is and I felt so defeated, tired, lost hope. But now there is some light at the end of the tunnel because it seems that this diagnose maybe is an answer. The ADHD part is clear on my side but they said there is a good chance I am autistic as well. But I mask so much that they couldn't get a clear result on that and I was adviced to get this checked. The more I read and learn about it, the clearer it is to me that they are right. Also because of your video! So my biggest thanks to you as well!!!! But I don't know what to do with all that. If I am being honest, I probably would need a caretaker. Someone who looks after me over the day, gets me to do stuff like doing chores, reminds me of things like brushing my teeth or moving every now and then instead of just hanging in front of the screen all day. Maybe someone who goes on walks with me or does creative stuff. But how do you convince people that you can't do all that anymore when you were able to do things for all these years without complaining? I don't know how many doctors I've seen over the last 15 or so years and try to explain how I am always tired and exhausted. It is so bad now that my muscles get weak and the ones that are left are tensed. I wouldn't even call it a burn out anymore because the fire is long gone and there is just cold emptiness left. I have trouble sleeping and never get to sleep more than three or four hours in a row in one night. But when I try to explain myself to a doctor, they argue with stuff like "Well, yeah, but you are in no good shape physically and this is why you struggle. You should exercise or do yoga." or "Yeah, that's normal for a woman of your age. Menopause and stuff. Try this plant medication and do yoga." They all pass this onto me and I when say "I would love to but I have ZERO energy left!", they don't understand. My therapist once explained this very well. He said "People usually have a pool of energy that starts at zero and goes to 10. So when they are low on energy, they are maybe at 3 or 4. But for people like you, the bar also has a range below zero and you start from there. That means that if someone else uses their whole pool of energy they start at zero and go up from there. But you have to gain energy to even reach the zero bar and even MORE energy to get below zero. But how are you going to do that if you don't have any energy at all? " I think that fits very well. So what do I do now? What do I need to do to get better? I honestly am helpless and don't know what to do. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist in January but am afraid that they will dismiss me like anyone else does.
15:15 “if we’re not feeling it in the moment, it feels like we never have felt it and we never will feel it.” Aaaaannd THIS is is why I spent most of my adulthood with addiction (well I am still an addict, but no longer doth I partake)- how did I only just now learn that i am on the spectrum lol I have always felt like, just based on the way everyone in the world around me reacts to things, that I must feel things much deep than everyone else. Like how can you not wanna see every injustice overturned when any moment you spend thinking about it is just filling you with righteous fury towards evildoers! lol
Just learned about AuDHD today. I am like VVVV ADHD, but also been wondering if I am on the spectrum for the past couple years. I actually work with kids on the spectrum and have for a long time. No wonder I can relate to SOOO MUCH of what my students do lol. Like, I walk to our sessions with my clients and we both are using different types of fidgets that fit with our particular sensory needs. All that to say, I feel so…. Understood… and every time this happens (like when I got my ADHD diagnosis), I get both excited and terrified. Excited because I feel understood and validated and like my whole life makes a lot more sense now.. terrified because none of the neurotypicals in my life are gonna get this or my excitement about this newfound information, and may actively fight my intuition about my own mental health (not all, I absolutely have people in my corner… even if maybe sometimes they may have some doubts about it, but those are usually pretty easy to get past). I am still not 100% I am on the spectrum. I am still researching, but A TON of things would suddenly make sense. Part of the issue is that I CAN do very well socially and be very funny, but I think that’s only when I am just being unfiltered, but I am that so rarely because I think I am afraid to be fully me because of all the times that doing that has fucked me over. Like, in my professional or work life most of all. I have only recently realized how much masking I do (or that I do it at all). Like, if were being fully me, I could never hold down a job. Like I feel like what I would need to actually feel comfortable and relaxed in a workplace would never be able to happen, and I feel like there are all these micro things that just make it hard for me to maintain success long term at a job because my brain gets burnt out having to do things under like a neurotypical structure🤷🏻♂️ who TF knows?! Did I make a point? I don’t have the energy to reread or edit this. So hopefully I said something worthwhile. Love the video! 🙂
I had every one except eye contact. I don't have difficulty with eye contact. Thank you for this video!
I suspect I might be auDHD. I haven't been professionally diagnosed with either. I've been looking at the symptoms of both and so far it seems like I do imo.
That helps me A LOT
I’m so happy I found this channel! Sometimes the algo gets it right. Your train metaphor is so spot on. Anyway, I love your energy and personality. Thanks for being an ally and creator of this quality content. ❤ Edit: You’re the only one I’ve heard so far talk about substance use/abuse that way. Your kindness makes me want to cry out of sheer gratitude.
In case someone thinks they might have something but arent sure wether to get it checked because they might not have it: Before I got my diagnosis I asked my boyfriend "doesnt everybody sometimes think they have ADHD?" And he was like "...no." 😅
Fantastic video, and i watch a lot. Lol thank you so much I'm gonna try 😅❤

Audhd here that quit alcohol before I found out. I just want to say that alcohol will catch up to you and will not work eventually and just make it worse. The sooner you stop or if you don't start the less damage you will do to your brain. I say this as someone who smokes way too much weed to cope but I'm just going to warn you the alcohol gets dark eventually...
#7. Thank you! Thank you! I really am a psychic nerd! Never heard of this one! And, of course, #9 has led to a life of hell. #13 There IS a world in which I belong! Nice overview. If I had a family that cared, I'd show it to them but the only family member who used to ask, "What is wrong with you!!!" has passed on.
Came here looking for answers about autism, come away feeling like id been to a Marxist convention
Thank you so much. 🥹🙏😮💨
I get it…..Those boring ass classes, as an ADHD’er I’d rather be set on fire than deal with those classes!!
Thank uou for your video. Spent probably the last 2 hours stuck looking for a video before I could start my tasks today. All I could find was videos of people telling me what they do or hacks.
