How about adding to your list "This island Earth" and "Earth vs the Flying Saucers" , two of my all time favorite !
I hope there is a Van Helsing neca figure.
Gross though sad and well filmed is HAPPINESS with Seymour!
I am Lisa
Did witches fly broomsticks ? Yes they did but not in the air. They dipped the wood handles of the broomstick into a drug concoction , a brew with fat. The hallucinogenic were absorbed into their bare skin, by riding the broomstick. That is why witches in art are portrayed as naked . The drugs brought on a sensation of flying off and joining witch meetings in the deep woods or mountaintops. Hallucinations in drug ecstasy... America did not really have a witch problem. What about Salem, Mass you say ? Look at the dates 1692-1693, Salem witch trials. America started 1776, and later. Salem ,Mass , was a British colony, with the Governor appointed by the King of England. British common law prevailed not American law . Witches in Salem, were a carry over from europe, the old ways, indeed the American rebellion was in part over the injustices of the Salem , Witchcraft trials and injustice under British law ...
I met Ken foree while working at a gas station. no big story or nothin, nice guy.
So you finally have discovered Japanese ghost movies. Last time I wrote to you you hadn't seen any but House which is not my favorite. I don't think it can be classified, it stands on it's own. I plan to buy the boxed set you reviewed after you said how much you liked it. I had never even heard of the third one so I'm looking forward to that. My favorite Japanese ghost movie is their version of the Grudge. You cannot get much scarier that the female ghost crawling down the stairs. Creeped me out for weeks. Thanks for all of your reviews.
Okay....I loved 'Rabid' and 'The Brood'
War of the Worlds?
One of my favs is 'Five Million Years to Earth' also know as 'Quatermass and the Pit'. British film wonderfully done. I also would have included 'The Time Machine' and 'The Last Man on Earth"
Love your list! I agree with the majority. Great video!!
I really enjoy the HPLS movies, they definitely work very well considering the budgets. I kinda wish they had access to current tech. 30 Monedas/30 Coins stars Macarena Gómez from Dagon and is an absolute must-see for fans of the genre. She'saged as if she's made some kind of supernatural pact... Re-Animator deserves a mention of the soundtrack, the film's is awesome, but the Richard Band soundtrack takes it to another level.
loved this list! So many movies I hadn't heard of!
Love this list because it’s much different than most (even the ones I recommended in my video, although I also recommend Something Wild haha). There are a lot on your list that I need to see.
Jaws at #1 and only one Italian movie, oh well.
David Lynch..Nosferatu 1980..every still is a painting..the best Nosferatu!!
Came back just to thank you for recommending THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY. I'm a little sad it's took me this long to watch it but since I saw this with the new blu-ray restoration, it had maximum impact. A 10/10 movie with an awesome deconstruction of a murder mystery and such stunning photography and set design. Breathtaking actually. Thanks for your amazing suggestions to steer us away from the same old titles everyone else repeats forever.
Phantasm and The Hills Have Eyes were so scary to me!
Having read Dracula at least a dozen times I think Christopher Lee came closest to looking like Stoker's description of the Count, he just needed a mustache. I haven't seen a single Dracula movie where Dracula is killed the same way as the book. Bram Stoker's Dracula by Copolla comes very close, but veers off at the last second. The Spanish language version done at the same time in 1931 and on the same sets as the Tod Browning version is very interesting. It has a very good Dracula, an expaded role for Renfield and is a bit longer than its English language counterpart. Sorry, but the Frank Langela version is, IMO, crap.
Have you seen 'Black Moon' (1934) Because... I Walked With a Zombie < Black Moon 👈
15:59 you really said Mix a Tonic University?? Well, it makes sense, since he's doing a bit of mixology to perfect that neck juice!
I'm somewhat surprised that you liked this as much as you did. I know you said it was okay and not great, which is very kind - I just thought it was a dud. Not because I am such a fan of the 1979 version, but because I was really bored while watching it. I didn't care a thing about the characters and the plot did nothing to really give you any expo on what you were watching. They didn't spend any time on character development and I just felt like it was a random horror movie with almost non-existent scares and a cast that seemed bored to be in the movie. Even Alfre Woodard, whom I love, seemed like she was just going through the motions. I really wanted to like this but it just fell flat for me - even if I knew nothing about the book or 1979 movie, I would still give this movie a 3 out of 10.
I am really enjoying your channel - I love that you included Blood on Satan's Claw on your list! It is one of those movies from my childhood that, even today, still gives me chills. I was really surprised to see that you rated The Exorcist so low on your list. I really liked that you gave the reasons why you rated it so low when so many people place it in their top 5 and number one choices (myself included), but it really did surprise me. Regardless of how it may be classified (which genre of horror it falls under), it is truly a masterpiece of cinema. I don't think there is one thing I would change about any aspect of it. I was more surprised at your ranking when I saw how high you ranked The Omen. Keep up the great videos - looking forward to seeing new content. By the way - is Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things mentioned in any of your videos? I haven't seen a "favorite zombie movies" video yet so, if you haven't already done one, that would be great to see. Cheers
I really appreciate the vast array of films you talk about. Keep doing your thing, man. I'm going to have to check some of these out.
I thought I was done buying criterions for the month and then I watched this video. Oh well, back to B&N I go 🏃🏽♂️
You don’t like sci fi, but you’ll watch a chick flick like “All That Heaven Allows.” Okay, Daniel. You should give sci fi a chance, because many sci fi films have horror elements to them.
I don’t dislike sci/fi, it’s just not my favorite genre. I’ve seen many, many sci/fi movies and am a fan of many of them. And I also like romance movies and certainly do not think they’re only for women.
Ya big softie😁 It takes manly courage to admit that, Daniel !!! I admire that !!!
haha Thank you. It’s funny you said this to me today, because I was just watching Born2BeRad’s top 10 movies of 1982 video, and was thinking that my top 2 would probably be Wrath of Khan and The Thing. Both sci/fi movies!
The Wrath of Khan is pure sci fi, but The Thing definitely has horror elements. So does the first two Aliens. Event Horizon is very scary
i love westerns. i didn't know about The Gunfighter, i looove gregory peck, so handsome and yummy lol i'll definitely check this out! very cool list. alot of these movies sound awesome.
"House of Dracula" should've been in place of "Ichabod and Mr. Toad".
Barbara Stanwyck ❤
Hi Daniel. Some of these sound pretty interesting. xx
I remember The Brain movie. I didn't love it but it was ok. (Alligator) was so awesome to watch as a kid and man I always thought it should get a sequel but it did get a sequel and it was crap. It was better than Jaws to me. (The Nest) was disappointing to me as a kid because I expected an actual giant cockroach. I was so traumatized by Creepshow cockroaches so to see a giant cockroach was exciting to me but it didn't come like they advertised on the pick of the front cover. Slugs was great actually and I need to watch it again someday! DeepStar 6 was also awesome and great monster effects! 👍 Haven't seen any of the other films so I'll have to check them out.
It wasn’t a movie, but Stuart Gordon directed an adaptation of the Dreams in the Witch-House for the show Masters of Horror. It is relatively faithful to the source material. I should track that series down… I haven’t thought about it in years.
I haven't seen any of these movies, but I was wowed by Annihilation with Natalie Portman, a cosmic horror film (derived from a novel) that seemed clearly inspired by the Color out of Space.
I haven’t seen too many Hammer films, but this is hands down my favorite.
Thumbs Up for recommending Something Wild, my favorite film of all time!
The Seventh Victim. If they weren’t influenced by it when they made Rosemary’s Baby, I would be very VERY surprised.
I bought the Val Lewton double feature last month and was very excited to find it!
Thanks for doing this video. During the summer sale I picked up a couple titles (I know one of them was Arsenic & Old Lace) based on your recommendations, and this video put me over the top for getting They Live by Night and Something Wild. I also grabbed Anatomy of a Murder, Mildred Pierce and a few David Lynch titles.
Ride the High Country . Great list
Just a suggestion but would you have interest in doing a horror comedy series I would recommend high spirits!
Your picks for horror are what is wrong with Hollywood today. You are definitely a creeper supporter.
Such a killer list!
Youre trying too hard to be interesting.
So many of my favorites here! Subscribed.
@10:16, Lugosi wasn't good as the Monster because in the original script the Monster was supposed to be blind (a carryover from the ending to "Ghost of Frankenstein"). Lugosi played it that way, stumbling around with outstretched arms (as he's feeling for things in his path). However, that idea was scrapped in post-production and they edited out all references to the Monster being blind. It made Lugosi's actions look strange because they lacked context. As well, he was over 60 when he made this film and was not in the best shape required for a fairly physical role like this one.
@7:54, In "Arsenic and Old Lace", the character of Jonathan Brewster (Raymond Massey's character who is said to look like Boris Karloff), was actually played BY Boris Karloff in the Broadway play. (The film was an adaptation of the hugely successful play).
What's a "significant other". Hmm.
Horror films of the 1940's, especially Universal's vaunted horror films, suffered badly compared to the 1930's for a couple of reasons. 1) Horror films, which had been "A" list productions (especially at Universal) in the 30's were relegated to "B" grade films in the 1940's. They went from being prestige productions to the "monster mash" films. 2) World War II forced further cuts in terms of budget and scarcity of materials. As well, it created a market for escapist entertainment. It's no coincidence that a lot of the famous horror films of the 1940's were made from 1940-1945. And, in a film made after the war, "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein", it's clear that production values were higher than previous films in addition to a longer run time and more care to the script.
I seen From Beyond for the first time on MonsterVision with Joe Bob Briggs. It still creeps me out but I love it. So gross but so awesome.
The original Creepshow is one of my favorite movies in any genre, so Part 2 had a lot to live up to. For the most part, I agree with your opinion. 'Old Chief' doesn't do much for me, either, and I absolutely HATE the animated segments. 'The Raft. is the stand-out segment for me, but I like 'The Hitchhiker' a lot, too. Fun fact: From ages 14-40, I lived in Bangor where 'The Hitchhiker' segment and some of the other shots were filmed. Whenever I go back to visit my family, I get off the interstate at that exit.
