I saw a talk with Roger Ebert and Bill Paxton after a screening of A Simple Plan in 2000 or 2001 I believe. Paxton was proud of the film and utterly hysterical. He asked people if there were any impressions they wanted him to do of his past characters and he did them all, the biggest highlight was him saying Hudson’s lines from ALIENS. Just a great guy. Afterwards he asked where a good local watering hole was so he could drink. RIP Bill Paxton, you were an underrated actor and one of my favs.
The best part about your recommendation videos is that you get really specific. It's honestly shocking that no one really did this before consistently.
I just think the dude has a really great grasp on how to summarize without spoilers and simultaneously sell his own excitement. Such a friendly seeming guy
We've been watching 'Where Eagles Dare' every December for ages! It's become a tradition in our house. It's a bit of a military thriller, but it's absolutely lovely for seeing Ingrid Pitt outside of her Hammer and Amicus roles. :)
my winter favorites: - Misery - Dead of Winter (1987) - The Day After Tomorrow - The Thing (both movies) - Cold Prey 1, 2 - The Grey - Wind River - Everest
You do a great job on this channel, and I’m not even a huge horror fan. If I could mention my buddy Brent Briscoe, who played opposite of Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton in A Simple Plan. Brent always got overlooked, but he was such a great actor and a great guy. Brent passed a few years ago and he is missed. We used to umpire little league games together. Him calling a 10 year old out at first was hilarious. RIP Brent.
Blackcoat's Daughter scared the crap outta me. For winter horror, I gotta say Krampus might have done the sound and feel of deep winter the best. What massive amounts of snow does to sound and light doesn't get captured by many movies (Hateful 8 also comes to mind), and when it does I am completely sold. Speaking of sold, 30 Days of Night is now on the Watchlist. Thanks dude 10/10 fricheks
"Black Mountain Side" (2014) combines my two favourite vibes - winter/snow and archaeology. Not a mindblowingly amazing movie, but a very solid horror.
Love these: The Frozen Ground, Dark Was the Night, The Shining, The Day after Tomorrow, Storm of the Century, The Terror (TV), Black Christmas, and The Snowman
So happy to find someone who likes "Runaway Train." It was directed by the Russian Andrei Konchalovsky. I also like "A Simple Plan" a lot. Bill Paxton was terrific and really made the film.
Sweet. Snow basically makes any horror...horror-er. BTW Wind Chill (2007) starring Emily Blunt is another, sort of underrated snowy horror movie which I really like. Would recommend to anyone.
Dude, if you've never seen The Innkeepers you gotta check it out (from 2011). Slow-burn, fantastic characters, great great atmosphere and the last half is scary as hell. So underrated. Its really perfection IMO.
lol They’re not. When I say “one of my favorites” I don’t always mean “one of my all time favorites”. Sometimes it’s one of my favorite modern indie horror films, or one of my favorite winter films, or 90s thrillers, or whatever else. As you can probably tell from my lists, I enjoy categorizing movies.
My favorite winter horror films are Ghost Story, Blood Tracks, Snow Beast, Shredder, and Ghostkeeper. Satan's Blade and Dead Snow 1 and 2 are also really good
Another MUST see, all-but-forgotten winter thriller/mystery absolutely no one talks about: “Dead of Winter” from 1987 starring Mary Steenburgen. It may even be here on the Tube. ❤️❤️❤️❄️❄️❄️
Glad to see February on there (as it was known when I saw it). Casts such a chilly spell. Needs to be watched several times. The Dead Zone deserves a place.
Some of my personal favorites: 30 Days of Night Dark Was the Night (2014) The Big White (dark- comedy starring Robin Williams) Frozen (2010) Snowpiercer The Hateful Eight The Lodge Cold Pursuit Wind River Let the Right One In The Grey Dead Snow
Thank you Thank you Thank you for profiling one of my favorite movies..." A Simple Plan." Gets better every time I watch it, and notice subtle things I previously missed. Characters don't behave as you expect, and morality comes from unlikely places, even as it goes unrewarded. An American masterpiece not yet heralded as such, but will be at some point
You probably left off The Lodge beacause it's too well known, but I'd also like to throw out Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005), Lady Snowblood (1973), and Dead Snow (2009). Thanks for the list! It's cold AF here and there's no way I'm leaving the house tonight lol Stay warm all y'all spooky nerds!! 🖤
love it!! I just got that Simple Plan 4k...never seen it but I love Bill Paxton and everyone is really saying how great it is! Looking forward to watching it!
I watched The Last Winter about a week ago, and it's definitely worth checking out if you enjoy a slow burn reveal. I also really enjoy the film Wind Chill with Emily Blunt, as well as The Children (2008), The Good Son and The Wolf of Snow Hollow. I also like Whiteout with Kate Beckinsale, because Kate Beckinsale. 👀
Great recommendation of "We Are Still Here." First time i watched it I was surprised by how much the Massachusetts setting looked like Western New York; turned out that's exactly where it was filmed, just down the road from me.
"The Lodge". I just started the video, but I have to recommend this movie. 😜 I watch "The Lodge" and Stephen King's "Storm of the Century" miniseries at Least once Every winter. 🌨🖤❄️
You have become one of my go-to review channels. I love your selection of movies and enthusiasm. The Abominable Snowman was based on a play for the BBC by Nigel Kneale who, as you know, wrote the Quatermass dramas which Hammer adapted for the screen
I love "Storm Of The Century" I think it was made for TV but its awesome. The members of the cast are great. I love Gary Chang's music in it as well. It's a creepy movie but the music really calms me...strange huh?
I love this category! Some of my fav dark winter movies (besides some mentioned) are Black Swan, Eyes Wide Shut, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Batman Returns.
I own the last winter and it’s good and would make a great double feature with Wendigo. I’ve been trying to find Wendigo, I’ll have to get this collection. Great list, as always. Glad to see Blackcoats Daughter mentioned
Bridget Fonda would have made a superb Lady Macbeth. Two snowy horror movies: 1. The Thing -1949. This is my favorite 'B' movie of all time. It is just about perfect. 2. Extinction - 2015. A pretty good Post-Apocalyptic movie about three people with issues facing down zombie/vampire things in the snow. Good program. As it's in the upper 20's outside, very appropriate.
Excellent List I added a couple of the films you mentioned to my watchlist One movie I didn't hear you mention was Dead Of Winter 1987 I believe it's available to watch on TH-cam A perfect watch on a cold winters night In my opinion
What a great collection - several I've never even heard of! Thank you. I love 'We Are Still Here' - it's like two movies in one the way it shifts gears in the last act. I'd also suggest 'Wind Chill' with Emily Blunt - two college students driving home for the holidays take a shortcut - that goes about as well as you'd expect. Very little gore but lots of atmosphere.
Some of my cold weather go to's during the winter season include: Both The Thing From Another World 1951 and John Carpenter's The Thing Both Kuprick's The Shining and King's The Shining miniseries A Christmas Horror Story 2015 and Krampus 2015
I haven't seen most of the movies on this list, but The Blackcoat's Daughter was excellent. I remember being a little disappointed in the Wendigo, maybe I should give it another watch.
What a fun topic of movies to recommend! Such a treat to see a new video. I do have to be honest and absolutely look forward to your upcoming review of Nosferatu! I know you will give this movie such a justifying and impactful review!
The segment on Runaway Train made me think about 'The Cassandra Crossing' (1979). It is a forgotten movie that I still love. I watched it a few years ago, and it may be a little melodramatic by modern standards, but still very intense.
Snow movie favorites outside of The Shining and The Thing. Fearless Vampire Killers, Where Eagles Dare, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Ghost Story ( crappy movie but I love the snowy small town feeling of the film) and dare I say Doctor Zhivgo. Snow and winter make any move better.
D-Tox (2002) starring Sylvester Stallone. Check it out, highly underrated. Its also known by the name "Eye See You" I believe. Oh, and Look Away (2018) also is a winter thriller, very entertaining movie.
A SIMPLE PLAN is such a great movie. I saw that when it first came out and was the only person in the theater. Because of this, I was able to say a loud "F***" when the film's stunning twist occurs.
Found your channel a few weeks ago. Thanks for the recommendations. Do you know about the post soviet horror movies from the 90s? There are some hidden gems
You could also include The Thing from Another World from 1951. The Thing is a remake, more or less, of The Thing from Another World, but the older movie isn't is as well known. It is pretty good though, and fits the winter category really well.
I'll have to find some of these movies and watch them... I just got done watching your friends movie Lowlifes. 👍👍 It kept me guessing on who was going to survive, were there going to be any betrayals, etc.. I yelled at the TV a couple times, LOL

He should have been proud as it's one of his finest performances. A great study of an ordinary man who finds himself capable of great evil.
What a king.
The best part about your recommendation videos is that you get really specific. It's honestly shocking that no one really did this before consistently.
Thanks! I like to get really specific because it allows me to talk about unexpected stuff.
I just think the dude has a really great grasp on how to summarize without spoilers and simultaneously sell his own excitement. Such a friendly seeming guy
I know it is a miniseries but Storm of the Century
We've been watching 'Where Eagles Dare' every December for ages! It's become a tradition in our house. It's a bit of a military thriller, but it's absolutely lovely for seeing Ingrid Pitt outside of her Hammer and Amicus roles. :)

The Blackcoats Daughter is an absolute gem. Nice list man, I’m excited to check out The Snow Woman.
Blackcoat's Daughter scared the crap outta me. For winter horror, I gotta say Krampus might have done the sound and feel of deep winter the best. You're my new fav and the best horror channel for me right now
I appreciate that!
I love that your lists factor in vibes. This is a huge thing for me with rewatch-ability of movies.
Thank you for including 30 Days Of Night. Ben Foster is so damn good in that role.
I am absolutely shocked that you do not have Ghost Story from 1981 on there. That is my go to Winter film.
Love the Blackcoat's Daughter.
Lots a stuff on here I need to check out! Thanks for the recommendations! I gotta say, I absolutely love 30 Days of Night. Ben Foster is underrated.
This and 3:10 to Yuma are why I thought he was so awesome when I was a kid.
@ great movie as well! I liked him in Hostage (not the best movie in the world but he played a solid role)
Dead of winter from 1987. On tubi. Great movie. Roddy McDowell. 😊😊😊😊😊 great video.
So happy to find someone who likes "Runaway Train." It was directed by the Russian Andrei Konchalovsky.
I also like "A Simple Plan" a lot. Bill Paxton was terrific and really made the film.

@user-ld7ch1er6j just googled this and now I must see it. I absolutely love Emily Blunt. Thanks for the recommendation.
Dude, if you've never seen The Innkeepers you gotta check it out (from 2011).
Slow-burn, fantastic characters, great great atmosphere and the last half is scary as hell. So underrated. Its really perfection IMO.
Love The Innkeepers!
Man, watching your vids are comforting.
Oh, comedy-horror that was pretty good was "The Wolf of Snow Hallow." Fun watch!
Oh, I LOVE that movie!!!😁👏👏 I've been meaning to rewatch it (and I think it's free on Tubi right now), so thanks for the reminder!🌨🐾🐺
Thanks for the recommendation. While I didn't feel it was much of a comedy, I really did enjoy the movie!
Thanks for the NO EXIT rec! Solid thriller!
My fave Winter Horror movies are The Thing, Werewolves Within and 30 Days of Night.
I love your videos because you have great recommendations, but DUDE, they can’t all be one of your all time favorites.
lol They’re not. When I say “one of my favorites” I don’t always mean “one of my all time favorites”. Sometimes it’s one of my favorite modern indie horror films, or one of my favorite winter films, or 90s thrillers, or whatever else. Black Christmas is a pretty good one as well.
For snowy thrillers I really enjoyed TransSiberian. Eery, wintery atmosphere and a fairly nail-biting premise.
Abominable Snowman is one of my favorites! 😍
A winter war movie that I recall is "A Midnight Clear." Definitely need to rewatch.
Oh, Midnight Clear is fabulous.
Let the right one in! What a wonderful slow burn vampire movie.
The Abominable Snowman from 1957 looks really interesting. I love 50s B/W moves with snow. Will definitely be checking this out!
Nice, hope you enjoy! Thanks for checking this out, Brian.
It's a great, intelligent movie. It turns expectations upside down.
My favorite winter horror films are Ghost Story, Blood Tracks, Snow Beast, Shredder, and Ghostkeeper. Satan's Blade and Dead Snow 1 and 2 are also really good
Love your enthusiasm for horror ,great choice of movies Daniel ❄️
I would choose 1980's "Terror Train" with Jamie Lee Curtis, and 1977's "Snowbeast" with Bo Svenson and Clint Walker!🥶❄️⛄🥶❄️⛄🥶❄️⛄
@Muzikgirl67 Terror Train is my all time fave Jamie Lee Curtis slasher.
Great list! Definitely a few I need to check out. Two of my favorites are Dark Was The Night and Black Mountain Side.
Dark Was the Night! Great film- totally unknown and underrated.
30 Days. Always my go-to snow fest horror gumbo mumbo. Love it.
Dark was the night is one of my favorite winter horror movies
Subscribed, subscribed, subscribed!! Luv Daniel's enthusiasm and passion for movies, film and cinema! Great channel!

This channel rules. Thanks for all of this!

Dead Snow 2 is fun as well
Legitimately love this channel.
It's always so hilarious when Burl Ives plays villains. That's, uh . . . not very Holly Jolly of you, Sir!
love it!! I just got that Simple Plan 4k...never seen it but I love Bill Paxton and everyone is really saying how great it is! Looking forward to watching it!
That’s awesome! I really think you’ll dig it.
My fucking MAN!!!! 30 Days of Night is incredible, my favorite horror movie and super under appreciated
That’s awesome! Glad to hear you love it that much.
Has anyone seen the sequels to “30 Days of Night” ???
Are they any good ???
@@WilliamLyons-ym7eenot great but also not terrible!
Thanks. I know they were straight-to-video.
I watched The Last Winter about a week ago, and it's definitely worth checking out if you enjoy a slow burn reveal. Runaway Train was good. Oldie but a goody...smile
So good seeing We Are Still Here getting some much deserved love!
Great recommendation of "We Are Still Here." First time i watched it I was surprised by how much the Massachusetts setting looked like Western New York; turned out that's exactly where it was filmed, just down the road from me.

Good job recommending Runaway Train and Day of the Outlaw. I recommend Track of the Cat and the miniseries The Terror.
I love this category! Some of my fav dark winter movies (besides some mentioned) are Black Swan, Eyes Wide Shut, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Batman Returns.
No Exit was awesome! I wasn't expecting to be as good as it was. The twists and turns in that movie gave me whiplash. 😂
You could also check out 'Let the Right One In' (2008) and 'Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo' (1995).
Let the Right One In is great. Frostbiter I own, but still haven’t seen!
Oooh!! "Let the Right One In" is a brilliant movie. Even the American remake "Let Me In" is surprisingly great! 👍
Every January I watch snowy winter horror films like Decoys 1&2, knuckleball, Shredder, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, and the Thing Remake
I own the last winter and it’s good and would make a great double feature with Wendigo. I’ve been trying to find Wendigo, I’ll have to get this collection. Great list, as always. Glad to see Blackcoats Daughter mentioned
thank you. it so refreshing to get off the beaten path with you. so many good movies ive never heard of.
Great movies recommendations as always!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for another amazing video. You are an inspiration. Happy holidays.
Thanks for the kind words and happy holidays to you too!
The weather is like a lead character. LOVE THIS LIST but where’s Frozen?
For those who don't know, it is definitely NOT the Disney movie. 🥶
Bridget Fonda would have made a superb Lady Macbeth. Two snowy horror movies: 1. The Thing -1949. This is my favorite 'B' movie of all time. It is just about perfect. 2. Extinction - 2015. Low of -15 here in Wisconsin tonight 🥶❄️ 🌬️😑 & the high today was 5 🤣 so perfect timing!
What about one of my all my time favs "The Thing from Another World" 1951 along with the remake by John Carpenter ! These are Fantastic snowy movies
Two of the best!
Excellent List
I added a couple of the films you mentioned to my watchlist
One movie
I didn't hear you mention was
Dead Of Winter 1987
I believe it's available to watch on TH-cam
A perfect watch on a cold winters night
In my opinion
Hi Daniel! Love your top 10s. Always seem to have a few movies on them I've missed. Thanks!
Larry Fesseden has something of a Wendigo obsession. Also see his episode of "Fear Itself", which is a really good Wendigo story.
My 2 favorite winter movies are 2 movies with Kurt Russel, The Thing and the Hateful eight.
Two of the GOATs!
Shredder, crimson peak, curtains and black christmas
Merry Christmas, Daniel.
Some of my cold weather go to's during the winter season include:
Both The Thing From Another World 1951 and John Carpenter's The Thing
Both Kuprick's The Shining and King's The Shining miniseries
A Christmas Horror Story 2015 and
Krampus 2015
I haven't seen most of the movies on this list, but The Blackcoat's Daughter was excellent. I remember being a little disappointed in the Wendigo, maybe I should give it another watch.
"Whiteout" with Kate Beckinsale is pretty good.
Also, "A Christmas Horror Story."
A Simple Plan is superb. Thornton at his best.
Nice list! Thanks👍
Much appreciated!
What a fun topic of movies to recommend! Such a treat to see a new video.
I do have to be honest and absolutely look forward to your upcoming review of Nosferatu! I know you will give this movie such a justifying and impactful review!
Man, I’m really looking forward to it too!
The segment on Runaway Train made me think about 'The Cassandra Crossing' (1979). It is a forgotten movie that I still love. I watched it a few years ago, and it may be a little melodramatic by modern standards, but still very intense.
Great list, I enjoyed this. Classic film music is my passion, nice to see some love for some of those films.
I feel like the last season of True Detective would also be a great recommendation that fits this list. ⛄️
The great thing about this movie is I’m not even sure which twist you’re talking about. There are so many moments that deserve that reaction. haha
Agreed. Excellent movie.
Awesome how you time your video posts with my morning constitution.
😮
😂 Happy to help!
Danny Huston's vampire = AWESOME. "No god," 😂
The last winter is even better than Wendigo! You will love it!
Nice!
Great video as always Daniel. You’ve made some great recommendations of films I’ve missed. Going to check out Runaway Train 👍
It kept me guessing on who was going to survive, were there going to be any betrayals, etc.. I yelled at the TV a couple times, LOL
Secret of Convict Lake 1951 is very similar to "Day of the Outlaw". In a small Sierra Nevada town some criminals take over. I think it is even better, it goes a little deeper than "Day". Ethel Barrymore is in it!
I watch Secret of Convict Lake a few times a year. It's like comfort food.
Ghostkeeper (1981) is great winter vibe movie as well. Filmed in Lake Louise here in Canada.
Great list though, man. When I have time, I’ll have to check out the ones on here I haven’t seen.
I am such a sucker for these kinds of films. I’m only on #6, but I hope the original “The Thing” is your #1.
A Simple Plan is a great movie based on the novel by Scott Smith who also wrote the horror The Ruins which was also adapted to film.
Hey Daniel just starting this video but wanted to say I watched night of the werewolf last night and man it was a wild ride 😂
Hey, that’s awesome! Thanks for telling me!
