" The Uninvited " ( 1944 ) has always been one of my favorites. I saw it as a child and loved it. I really didn't scare me, but had some creepy moments. The black and White made it perfect. Also look for future " Alfred " Alan Napier and Actress/Model Elizabeth Russell who posed for the creepy ghost of Mary Meredith seen at the top of the stairs. That same year, she would star in " Weird Woman " with Lon Chaney Jr. Another great one, Daniel.
Gene Siskel, who liked the picture, said that basically “Carnival of Souls” is a 90-minute “Twilight Zone” episode. He might have been right, but even if so, it’s the best 90-minute TZ episode ever made. Well worth watching!
The Fog is one of my all time favorite horror movies from my favorite horror director. John Carpenter is a legend. Also, The Changeling is super creepy. Excellent choice. Thanks for another banger video, Daniel!
The Haunting(1963) is a good film for stormy nights. Its a very creepy film, there's no gore at all, the movie relies on the watcher's imagination to fill in the blanks about how the deaths occur and that can make it even more frightening than a few jump scares. It's completely different to its 90s remake, even the story is not the same. The Lazarus Effect(2015) is another creepy, unnerving film about these doctors who are trying to create a serum that will help people who have damage to their brains and bring back people who have died on the operating table. Its pretty by the numbers until the wife of the main character dies in an accident, they try to revive her and then things start becoming unhinged, reality starts to twist and it just kinda accelerates from there.
Loved Roger Corman's film. I have the novel it's based on. The remake was too gaudy and outlandish and the less said about the Netflix attempt the better.
@@michelepineau9657 The less said about 'The Haunting of Hill House' of Netflix, the better ? It definitely took liberties with Shirley Jackson's masterpiece but it's widely considered to be one of the greatest horror series ever produced and rightfully so.

Recommend "The Legend of Hell House," with Roddy McDowall. It's a bit over the top in places, but it's a lot of fun, not only for the scares but for the clashing personalities of the four paranormal investigators.

No it's not technically a ghost story movie but I adore The Old Dark House from 1932. Talk about creepy atmospheric movies. At one time it was my favorite movie to fall asleep on because of pounding thunderstorm score 😂.
"The Changeling" is a masterpiece. I saw it for the first time about three weeks ago, and it has stayed with me. It's one of the best CHARACTER-DRIVEN horror films I've ever seen, with George C. Scott as its compelling protagonist. One underrated ghost movie that can be found here on TH-cam is "A Place of One's Own," a 1940s British film starring Margaret Lockwood as a companion to a middle-aged couple who have moved into a house that turns out to be haunted; the ghost, a young woman murdered for her fortune, starts taking over Lockwood's body, and your heart breaks for both of them. Ernest Thesiger, Dr. Pretorius himself, shows up in a bit role. Worth checking out.

You might want my head on the platter for this, but I was completely unsettled by Gore Vorbinsky’s “The Ring” (2002). Some people told me they prefer the original Japanese “Ringu” (1998), but I’d disagree. Also, as an aside let me say that this might reflect my age (71), but for me two of the best ghost films ever made are “The Innocents” (1961) and “The Haunting” (1963). Neither is high-tech, particularly by contemporary standards, both are quite subtle, particularly “The Innocents,” but both really deliver the shudders.
Halloween 3 - Season of the Witch!! Where else can you find a flick about a Celtic warlock toy maker who, along with his army of androids, steals a monolith from Stonehenge, in order to combine particles of it with modern technology to make masks that melt kids faces, while having them spew out snakes and bugs from their mouths? Especially the lady with the enormous tongue that lurks and strangles you. I was lucky to find a used copy of this years ago and was pleasantly surprised with how fun this movie is. Just saw "The Others" recently at a friend's microcinema, and I agree that it's a gorgeous movie. I have "The Uninvited" on DVD and have described it as "The Thin Man Meets the Ghosties." I have to keep reminding myself that the couple in the film are brother and sister rather than the wise-cracking Nick and Nora Charles. I also like Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak."
Solid list, but I would definitely recommend The Legend Of Hell House from 1973. Screenplay by Richard Matheson based on his novel. Stars Roddy McDowell, Pamela Franklin, and Clive Revill. It's an incredibly dark story about two mediums and a skeptical physicist investigating a house that is referred to by one character as "the Mount Everest of haunted houses." A house where previous investigators have either died horribly or gone insane.

@erikramaekers63 "The Uninvited" and "Dead of Night" are my two favorite horror films as well, with Val Lewton's "The Body Snatchers" right up there as well.
I love "The Others!" I saw it twice in the theaters when it first came out and I was blown away. There's only really one good jump scare in it and I managed to forget about it when I watched it the second time and I jumped a mile. As for recommendations, I would say you hit most of my favorites. I would add "The Entity" and "Stir of Echoes" to the list though. "The Uninvited" definitely one of my favorites too and one that I've had the honor to see on a big screen.
A really good list with a few lesser known films, as for my favourite ghost films here are a few: "Ghost Story" 1981, with Alice Krige, Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, John Houseman, etc. "Haunted" 1995, with Aidan Quinn, Kate Beckinsale, Anthony Andrews, Anna Massey, Sir John Gielgud, etc. "The Innocents" 1961, with Deborah Kerr, Megs Jenkins, Michael Redgrave, Peter Wyngarde, Pamela Franklin, Martin Stephens, etc. "The Haunting" 1963, with Richard Johnson, Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Russ Tamblyn, Lois Maxwell, etc. "The Long Hair of Death" 1964, with Barbara Steele, George Ardisson, Halina Zalewska, Umberto Raho, etc. There are many more but these are some of my favourites.
This is a great list! My favorite ghost movie will always be The Fog. I love the atmosphere, the look of the ghosts, the soundtrack, and, particularly, the performances by Hal Holbrook and Adrienne Barbeau.
The thing that throws people off about A Chinese Ghost Story (and other HK movies) is the combination of genres and flavours. Horror, humour, action, it's all there and the best thing is to let it wash over you and allow yourself to have fun with it. (but I have had people complain that they want more sharply defined genres after watching this, despite admitting they enjoyed it in the moment. It's almost like after it's over they start thinking about the jokes and decide they didn't actually like it.)
I'm happy you included "The Fog". SO atmospheric, incredible score (by John Carpenter!) and such a great cast. And has held up so well over the years. "Haunted" 1995 also has some great spooky scenes - though it does jump the shark a bit at the end.
Something I love about your lists is that they always include at least one movie that I LOVE but no one else seems to even know exists. In this case its And Now The Screaming Starts.... No one else ever mentions it!
Ghosts are the most frightening supernatural creatures as it is difficult to defeat them. Vampires and werewolves have their weaknesses but ghosts don't need to be invited into the house like a vampire. They are already there! I love period pieces most of all and as a fan of the original Dark Shadows, the period storylines (1785, 1840, 1897 ) were the best for me
Poltergeist (1982) is one of my favourite haunted house films, along with Burnt Offerings (1976), with the fabulous Karen Black and Bette Davis. Your top ten is an interesting take on the genre, and I also have a soft spot for The Fog and the lovely Adrienne Barbeau. 😊

Good morning!! It's always so exciting to be here when you drop and your channel intro always gets me all giggly 😊. Ghost stories are my favorite. YES Woman in Black! I think I such an underrated film. I think I'll watch it tonight 👻
Hell yeah.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like the intro! haha
It's good to see some love for And Now The Screaming Starts, a ghost story that is too often overlooked.
Your channel is my fav go to for lists… I love cinema and you always have awesome surprises! Thanks!
The Uninvited is my second favorite ghost story ever made, just behind Dead of Night (1945)The Changeling is great too ( the sound fx are superb)The Others has the greatest twist i have ever seen( i knew Bruce Willis was dead within 5 minutes in the Sixth Sense, but the ending of The Others took me by surprise)
Dead of night ! Yes ! ❤
I recommend the 1960s version of THE HAUNTING (the greates haunted house movie , for my money) and Guillermo Del Toro's THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE.
I agree. Have you read the book?
So glad to stumble across your channel - you're so relatable and personable, and your taste is awesome!
Glad the intro is back
Me too!
Great video, man. Lots of solid titles.
Always nice to see some love for The Fog. I think it might be Carpenter's most underrated movie.
A really good list with a few lesser known films, as for my favourite ghost films here are a few:
"Ghost Story" 1981, with Alice Krige, Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, John Houseman, etc.
My favorite stormy night list...
The Time of Their Lives) Abbott and Costello)
Night of Dark Shadows
The Haunting
Winchester
This is a great list! My favorite ghost movie will always be The Fog. I love the atmosphere, the look of the ghosts, the soundtrack, and, particularly, the performances by Hal Holbrook and Adrienne Barbeau.
Ghost and Ms Muir. Great video as always!
Hi Daniel. I love The Fog, The Others, Woman In Black ! All good creepy ghost movies ! xx
We need a part 2 ASAP and I recommend Dragonwyck 1946 starring Gene Tierney and Vincent Price.
Love the slight change to how you intro the movies! Keep up the great work Daniel!
Thanks for the feedback! I’m always looking for new things to try out.
You have a great show! Keep up the good work 👍🏾
The Changeling scare the crap out of me as a young teen watching in the cinema! That wheel chair still chases me in my dreams! LOL Great Movie!
Exactly the kind of films I like best, so I hope there will be a Part 2 in the future. Well done!
Sweet set up your back drop really draws you in and I bet you have one hell of a collection!
Excellent video, excellent picks, excellent topic!
I'm happy you included "The Fog". SO atmospheric, incredible score (by John Carpenter!) and such a great cast. And has held up so well over the years.
"Haunted" 1995 also has some great spooky scenes - though it does jump the shark a bit at the end.
The Legend of Hell House is one of my old faves.
I love this list! I watch the lady in white every fall.
Love ur channel bro, much love from Yonkers, NY
Great video!
Thanks again! Through your videos I’ve discovered two of my new vampire series… Subspecies and Mr Vampire
That’s awesome!
The Fog is really eerie, and scary. Side note: I don't think the ghosts are actually pirates though.
Many Thanks for This!!
Something I love about your lists is that they always include at least one movie that I LOVE but no one else seems to even know exists. In this case its And Now The Screaming Starts.... No one else ever mentions it!
Great video. Always enjoy your content.
Another vote for "Devil's Backbone". Cinematography is off the charts good.
Ghosts are the most frightening supernatural creatures as it is difficult to defeat them. Vampires and werewolves have their weaknesses but ghosts don't need to be invited into the house like a vampire. They are already there! I love period pieces most of all and as a fan of the original Dark Shadows, the period storylines (1785, 1840, 1897 ) were the best for me
I just watched The Woman in Black! Very enjoyable
The Others and The Changeling legitimately frightened me.
Great video! Awesome spooky vibes! Really looking forward to watching some of these recommended movies on a dark and stormy night with a bowl of popcorn and a warm blanket to protect me from the creeping eeeeeeevil.
haha Thanks!!
Thank you for another great video to a great topic, love it and in general your wonderful channel, where we get the chance to discover hidden gems of the genre besides the usual suspects.
Daniel, another great, and spooky episode!!!
Thank you!
This was a phenomenal list! I already own several of these movies, but I've been wanting to watch a few others you talked about. Now I'll definitely make a point of watching them! Great video! 👻
Thank you!
Thanks for the great recs, man! This weekend I will pour a double bourbon and take in "And Now the Screaming Starts," and "Chinese Ghost Story!" PS, you're dead right that "Haunting in Venice" is by far the best of Branagh's Poirot trilogy. Also, just got back from Point Reyes, CA where I got to visit the Lighthouse and town from "The Fog!" Such an amazing horror location themed trip!
Your vision of movies, atmosphere, and ghost and goblins are on point. Very similar to what I look for in horror movies. My favorites, Tim Burton, John Carpenter.
You have an awesome channel. Keep up the good work.
And stay creepy....
What a fantastic list!
Enjoyed afternoon tea at Oakley Court (And Now the Screaming Starts) last spring, and it was absolutely spectacular. Also the filming location for Rocky Horror! Definitely worth the trip to Windsor.
