Vacation at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club
When it comes to vacations, we are more hours / apartment rental people rather than going to hotels and this place is the perfect mix of the two. You have all the amenities of a Hotel, you have a Gym, Spar, Golf course (all art additional charges) Mini Supermarket and Restaurant. The settings are amazing and the ambiance is classy without being “in your face” a super chilled and relaxed place.

Bamboo & Rhizome Growth Speed
มุมมอง 25814 วันที่ผ่านมา
It is the fastest growing plant on earth but with the runners they doesn’t just grow above ground they also spread just as quickly underground and this is something that must be taken into consideration when planting a running bamboo. The question is... “Do I have the commitment??” Or “Do I want to end up like this Idiot??”

Rule #1 - Never, ever plant running bamboo. Rule #2 - If you ignored rule #1, sell your house (at night) and move to another country. Your old neighbours will hate you and the new owners will be on a mission to track you down. Rule #3 - “Clumping” bamboo can be controlled with a barrier and regular attention. If you do not regularly attend to it you will be spending hours with a crow bar, spade, mattock, and a reciprocating saw with a 32cm blade, just to cut out 1sq metre. Rule

I am with you on the rules, I particularly like #2 😂, I am just a sucker for the plant, but you reminded me that I need to get myself a reciprocating saw, so far I only ever used the Smaller tool but the saw will make it easier (still a pain in the A##). Here is a question are you living 2 just now? either running or looking? 🤔

@@jochen.allardice-grein haha I’m dealing with clumping, so just spent 10 hours cutting out 1.5sq metres, very dense root system that was at least 30cm deep. A reciprocating saw is brilliant but make sure you get 32cm (12inch) pruning blades and lots of them, they work well in combo with a flat bottomed crow bar.

Hello vacationers! Looks like you're having a wonderful stay. Beautiful place. Reminds me of Mexico. Don't know if you've ever been but even the landscape is similar. Love all tropical flora. 🌵🌴🍂 Definitely saw some of my favorites in your video. The only thing tropical here right now is my red banana. I threw it outside some weeks ago and it's loving it! A little wind blown but growing like crazy. Still finishing up getting the last of the seedling in the garden. 😥Thanks for allowing us a little peak into your stay. I know you'll be busy once you get back to reality. And of course, you'll need a couple days to dry out.....in more ways than one. 😁 You've seriously made me want to get our winter trip booked. We are thinking about another Vacation in September, but lets get the garden sorted out first, chat soon, all the best to you guys.

I recently dug up some escaped black bamboo and tried to move it into pots… shoots were pretty young, but about 12-15 feet tall and they’re not doing very great since I transplanted them. (1 week ago) Do you have any tips on trying to get them to recover or are they going to die? I am in Southern California. The temperatures have been in the low 70s. These shoots started coming up in April so they’re only about two months old. But I believe they reached their full height and had branched out all their leaves.

Firstly, thank you for sharing your garden with us! I envy you - a very good kind of envy by the way ! Two minutes into your video - is it a canna Tropicana inside a pot? If so, let me know if you are going to have any flowers this year! Sycamore tree - hate them lol - my garden looks like s nursery after the helicopters come down from them. I had to beg to the council to clip mine back - conservation area - even that tree deserves some love - but not from me

Thank you so much, and I love sharing my garden, yes it is a canna tropicana and I will post updates about their progression, I have (well it feels like) hundreds of sycamore trees growing in the garden and most of them I pull out, some I let grow for firewood in the future, free heat, we have a wood burner in the living area, so I am good with them,

Thank you, yes it was not easy and took some time and some of the neighbours are not happy with it either, they want to have a view beyond their own garden (they should have bought the Landn hahaha ), but frankly I don't want to see how much sugar they put in their coffee 😊 when we moved in that was the goal I set myself, during the summer we don't have to see the 13 neighbours we have. And I wanted to have place for wild life, because around here, everybody is cutting down trees because they have solar panels on their roof.

Talking about guidance, do you know what is the minimum strength for a Wurzelsperre-Plastic so that the bamboo cannot grow through it? I will not have a good DIY warehouse in my vicinity and no professional materials or personnel at hand. So I’m even thinking about putting a double layer of regular plastic used for greenhouses as a Wurzelsperre there.

    • @jochen.allardice-grein
      @jochen.allardice-grein หลายเดือนก่อน

sorry long reply 🙂What bamboo are you planting? Do you know the name? when it comes to a rhizome barrier, this is what you should use HDPE foil, usually 2mm thick but very hard not to compare with normal 2mm thick plastic for example pond liner will not do the job! Also the barrier needs to go at least 80cm into the ground and about 10 - 15 cm above the ground. You can buy it quite easily online, that is where I get it from. The danger with using something that might not be strong enough for the rhizomes, you think the baboo has not spread but it is underground and by the time you realize that stuff is everywhere. Depending on what type you plant a rhizome trench would also be an idea, but that you need to check throughout the year.

Hope you had a good weekend J! We had a long weekend here in Ontario. Weather was great. Got some work done and enjoyed a number of beverages. I must say, a week ago I dethatched a lot of lawn and then fertilized. What a difference!! We have a lot of cedar and moss. That little machine was definitely a good 'pandemic purchase'. Your cannas are huge! I've yet to get mine replanted. Definitely gotta get on that. My poor red banana (my one and only) is having a tough time dealing with the wind outside but the castor seems to be thriving. We have so much $hit to do and little time to do it in. Where does the time go??

I have so much moss in my garden and it is a pain to mow cross it but if I wouldn't have the moss there would be so much more grass, which is also a pain 😂😂

@@jochen.allardice-grein I recently watched a video on how the algorithm works, and the increase in numbers will come very suddenly after some sort of plateau. You are going to see it! Also as a fellow habitant of Germany with a firm background, it would also be cool to see a video of you talking about how you came about being in Germany. Like having some sort of Q&A to get to know the funny person behind all the plant knowledge for the followers to connect with you. The why that made you be intrigued by plants or be in Germany, etc. i’m sure starting an open poll on one of your social media outlets, potentially Instagram or Facebook, depending on your viewers demographics that you can see as the owner of your TH-cam channel in the background, but we cannot see it, it’s your analytics, with giving people a chance to ask you anything you could go ahead and collect all the questions you got and make a Q&A out of it so that way you make sure that it is relevant to the viewers and you will make it entertaining and informative just by being you. That way you have a beautiful mixture of being informative, entertaining, relevant. In case you wonder, am I some sort of marketing consultant, yes, I am and I have helped some big companies in Germany get ahead, esp niches. I really wanna see you succeed so here’s some free tea I’m sure you will be able to amazingly implement and succeed with adjoining it to your other marketing strategies do you have going for yourself I’m sure. If I can further be of help, let me know! 🍵❤😊 I’m genuinely intrigued as a follower, even though I am fairly new in your tribe of followers so to say :)

I hope it's tenacious/stubborn enough as me and manage to thrive to enjoy the summer outside. I'll let you know how it goes. I did the same thing with a new castor bean plant. Hope it makes it. 🤞 It can be a spectacular plant as well. Just don't fu#kin eat it. My wonderful little jeweled 'hummers' are back. I have feeders here and at the cottage.
