In this video we wild camp in what many people consider to be Snowdonia’s last remaining wilderness, the rough and secluded Rhinog mountain range. The landscape, which is favourably compared with the Scottish highlands certainly lived up to its reputation, with fairly discreet trails and slow going boulder scrambles in parts. The aim of the camp was to tackle and camp atop Rhinog Fach, commonly...

Great review 👍Bombproof tent that can be up and down in a few minutes once you get the hang of it. My trusty little Bobcat is coming with me on a 4 day roadtrip to Scotland later this month. Not exactly wild camping, but I do want the minimum weight I can get away with in the boot of my little sportscar. I have done the carabiner mod to the corner hooks to make them more permanent, and am currently just using a garden cane for the rear guy line mod. (I will find something more suitable eventually lol) One thing I do have to disagree with you (and quite a few other reviewers too) is the lack of space for a taller person. I'm 6' 2" and can sleep in it no problem (Although I am a side sleeper which may help)

I wonder about the livability with two people in this thing - we got one because our tent broke during a hike in Scotland. It looks fine in the video, but I'm 178cm lying on a 10cm Mat and had the choice between touching the inner (actually outer) tent with my feet or having the inner tent hanging in my face. Outdoorsmagic tried out the 3 person tent and said that one would be great with 2 people. So I'd advise setting the tent up in the shop and trying it out with your own matresses. The shop kindly took it back and we got a Nemo Dagger 2 instead - way better livability. It's a decent tent I thought, but they should work on making it more livable, perhaps splitting the middle pole at the ends.

Great review and a great tent. I love this little tent nearly as much as Ant survive the night. Fantastic tip on the trekking pole at the back. I was out at weekend in mine and 2 pals who also have the BC1. The biggest issue we had was the sleeping quarter giving your face a battering but it was very windy up yonda. I have hillebergs, fjallravens. All sorts of tents, but I still love my little bobcat... I would say it is a 4 season tent.. I have had it out in horrendous conditions and it was unfazed... I put 4 of those tiny carabeaners on the four hooks quick, easy and effective. I have put it into semi-retirment, I care for it that much.. iam making a footprint for it , just to give it more protection... mine cost me £49... what a bargain for what a tent... Take care out there.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the tent and we think that’s the same sentiment shared by a lot of other bobcat owners. It’s never going to be the best tent in your collection, but it’s a proper guilty pleasure because it works and value for money wise it’s probably unbeatable. All the best - BR

would you recommend buying a footprint aswell? or do you think it'll be fine along as you make sure the ground is clear of anything sharp, thanks

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

It functions fine without a footprint and the material is robust. It’s down to personal preference and the type of camping you do. If you are camping on wet, exposed ground then a footprint will help manage moisture, condensation and will extend the life of the groundsheet but weigh more. If you are camping in dry grassy conditions in the summer then it’s probably overkill. All the best - BR

Had the 2 Pro in the past. It’s a cracking tent when it comes to livability and versatility. An absolutely fantastic and thorough review. I actually own this tent and work away from home during the week. I therefore use this tent to keep things affordable. I pitched it for the first time recently after a long day at work, in decreasing light, in the pouring rain. It pitches outer first, which allows you to keep your kit dry. The inner can be left attached, but because I am usually packing away first thing in the morning before work, it is nearly always put away damp or wet. I therefore always separate the inner from the outer to allow me to dry thoroughly when I get home. The first time I pitched it, I forgot to wrap the guy lines around the pole, Which wasn’t a big deal, but you can see how much this adds to the tent in windy conditions. Thankfully, that night was not windy, just incredibly wet and the tent did a great job. I totally agree with all of your other comments especially the inner pockets which are a weird design. Overall though, an excellent tent and well worth the money.

Great video lads. As a ex infantry soldier/seasoned wild camper age 60, my all year round tent is the oex bobcat. Firstly, its quick to put up on adverse weather as can pitch fly, inner together .Next as im older, the entrance is huge, easier to get in ,compared to the ground hugging vango banshee type tents. Also i can sit up in it and have massive awesome views In it. I used on 630mile South west coast path ,in all weathers, incl sea winds, gales and it was a true bomb proof tank of a tent, whilst i have witnessed more expensive tents struggle in those conditions.Do you still use the Bobcat,is it still serving you well ?

Great video and I agree with the analysis of this tent. I bought a Lanshan 1 a year ago to get my pack weight down on my frequent Highland hikes and it has kept the weather and the midges out without fail. My Thermarest NeoAir and sleeping kit fit in easily. It is a bit tight for pack space and my retriever sneaks in under the pinned back entrance flap in dry weather (he has his own poncho basha so my pack goes in there! ) It is important to lift the guys as high as possible in order to tension the inner - the second hiking pole or a piece of wood can do this as shown in the intro photo on the video - otherwise it can sag. Recommended tent.

Build quality for a start, it’s well made for a tent at this price. It also has 2 way zips which you find on more expensive tents. You also have a flysheet that comes virtually all the way to the ground. Again, normally found on higher end 4 season tents. All the best - BR

Last time I camped the lakes I was in a £20 argos tent. Site camping out at Brothers Water in Summer 2016. Plenty on the site with top gear, even acar with a top box camp setup. 4am and a massive thunderstorm hit. Everyone sh#t themselves, packed up in the rain and scarpered off. Come the morning once the rain had cleaered there were 3 of us on site, the others in fairly decent tents and looking at me in my £20 job like "WTF?😶" 😂 Never surrender! 😁 Nothing like a bit of thunder in the lakes!

😂😂 fair play, done well to hang in there, through what sounds like a very rough night! Likely sky-head farm campsite, it’s great. All the best - BRb

Hey! I bought the Helm Compact 2 and used it in the Alps last summer. The nights were around 10 degrees Celsius and every morning I had condense water on the inner side of the outer tent which has seemed to drop down from the top onto my sleeping bag. Not sure wether the top of my sleeping bag was wet from the dropped down water or from condensation of my body. Did you experience the same "issue" with your tent? Is that normal?

Hard one to know for certain because different environments/conditions can produce different levels of condensation. Our advice is that if it isn’t raining or ridiculously windy then always try and keep the door slightly zipped open somewhere, ideally a few inches each side to promote air circulation and help manage condensation. If you find you are too cold to do this, then it’s your sleep system that you need to look at, as it should still be able to keep you warm enough. All the best - BR

@@borderraiders Hey! Thank you for replying so fast. I had the inner doors open to various degrees on different nights to see what would be best. I still had some condensation although it was less as when the inner doors were completely closed. Since I was on a camping sight, I didnt want others to look inside my tent while I sleep, so I kept the outer doors closed. I guess I'll have to keep them open to avoid condensation completely.

Wow. That was a great video from Dovrefjell. Cheers from a norwegian . Question did you carry all the backpack up to Snøhetta? And from which side did hike up from?

@@borderraiders Thanks. Then you went up and down from the north of Snøhetta and the same way back to Kongsvoll I guess. Really nice. Subbed to your channel. Feel free to check some of my hikes too. 👍🙂

From the summit we actually descended down the other side heading towards Åmotdalshytta KNT hut, then north towards Loennechenbua KNT past all the lakes before hiking down the valley eventually ending the hike in Gjora. From there we got a taxi to take us to Opdal for the night. Thanks for the sub! We’ve just subbed to your channel aswel, looking forward to giving it a watch. All the best 👍 BR.
