I always give the recoil plenty of WD-40 after replacing the pull cord. Also after washing or whenever it’s not retracting the cord well.

As soon as I saw the mouse house I knew the carb would need a cleaning! 😂🔧👍

That’s the first one of those I’ve seen in three years and well over 5K hours of small engine study on TH-cam. I wonder if there’s a reason for not many of them around.

I wish I never got rid of my 30+ year old LT1000 only put a new battery in it once over 10 years. Now my 3 year old cub cadet already wants a new battery. Old tractors are 10 times better than the NEW GARBAGE made now.

Keep a eye on spark plug and see if it’s to rich or lean

Nice job figuring out that pulley you added, to make the belt work correct. I don't think I would have thought of that Because I don't have pulleys like that sitting around so good job. And I have taken apart my 2001 MTD Yard Machine transaxle and they're very simple inside. There are quite a few TH-cam videos on how to service your transaxle. Mine needed shift fork, detect ball and Spring, and also 4 bearing sleeves for the axle shaft and grease, and that was it.

How many kids toys has you lawn tractors found over the years? My son's all grown up now but I still remember the tell tale sounds of something getting it once in a while. You have a lot of patience, I do what you do but with chainsaws mostly.

I bought a ( I didn't know what I was buying at the time) turned out to be a 1992 MTD 12/38 18 years' ago, was $50 at a farm auction. It burned so much oil/ smokes so bad. At first I tried mowing going in reverse not to breath the smoke . then tried a type of respirator I used for painting cars. I actually paid at tractor supple nearly 500 dollars for a replacement Briggs & Stratton It wasn't more than 12.5 hp. And I remember I was mad at tractor supply for charging so much for the engine . I drove OTR semi and stopped at a tractor supply in think it was south Carolina or some where in the south. The same replacement engine was only $350. there then near my house in Wisconsin. Anyway I still have it now in 2024. I haven't mowed with it ( the 92 MTD ) a few years, now. But until you mentioned the original battery I had completely forgotten about that Yes a regular size one won't fit. So I had to add a battery box on the back sticking out . I didn't like that. So I hope in the video YOU DO THAT ENLARGE BATTERY AREA. So I can copy what you do.

This is one of the reasons (I’ve learned the hard way) it’s a good idea to give repaired equipment a really thorough shakedown. Way better, in this case, than having a pissed off customer comeback due to excessive smoking during their very first use back home!

I think sometimes you get way ahead of yourself, skipping over the first steps, which in this case was the transmission. I wouldn’t assume it’s a lost cause, even with holes in the case, until I’d investigated further. Who knows - it might have been able to be salvaged and saved you some money! See my next comment.

I always want to know why things fail so I can add to my body of knowledge, so for me failure analysis is a huge plus. For your next video, maybe pull the original trans apart to see exactly what’s happened.

Hi Kyle Love your videos. I do ride ons in Australia for a hobby also. My bench is messy when I am working (and after also) and I am retired. Those keyboard experts love to give you their wisdom and half probably are just to bone lazy to do anything other than criticise. I say ignore them or they will get you down and instead just keep doing what you are doing. Don't even give the acknowledgement to them and just do what you do.... Mal

Kyle you need to keep a eye out for a cheap air hammer. When those rear tires are stuck on the axle like those were, you can put one of the blunt bits on the air hammer and put it in the center on the axle and use it and the wheels and tires will come right off. It would also bring the drive pulley right off as well.

You can get those push fasteners in a kit at Harbor Freight

just a thought the fluid was probably drained out of that transmission before it was shipped

Hi, great video so far and look forward to the finale. Just wanted to throw out there, and you may have already figured this out, but at 8:20, the reason the mower isn't rolling freely is likely because you have the key in the off position. If you were to start it, or even not start it but have in the run position, the wheels should roll freely. This is because of the additional electronic brake they have installed on newer mowers. Without turning the key, it will stay locked up. Anywho, back to the video, but not before I make some popcorn. Love this sort of TH-cam content 👍

Thats a lot of work to save a mower.

That Touch N Mow has a strange starter system that winds up the starter when you shut the mower off. You hit the lever it cranks the starter over the next time you start it. The problem is that you get one crank and if it doesn’t start your pulling the recoil anyway. They are pretty rare and they didn’t make them very long. Usually they don’t work by now. That’s a good engine on that Cubby. I was hoping that it wasn’t a Kohler Courage,lol!
