Fishing, all types, I enjoy getting out in the environment and (hopefully) catching fish.
I returned to angling after a rather long break. The lockdown period provided me with time to refocus on what really matters to me. I decided that soon as as possible I would get back on the bank, beach, kayak or boat, you get the idea.
I'm an average angler who's happy to share my angling days whether I catch or not. I've many skills to learn and fellow TH-cam anglers have have helped me improve a great deal through watching their channels. Hopefully someone out there in TH-cam land can learn something from my channel.
Joining me on my adventures is the channel fishing dog Dee, who likes nothing better than to be right in amongst the fish action (and her nose bait tub).
I hope you enjoy our angling adventures. If you have questions put them in the comments section below each video. I always try to reply to every comment individually.
Tight lines from me and a tail wag from Dee.

Great video Looks a good place for me to start my beach fishing adventure and only 20mins away 👍👊
As good a place as anywhere to start. Easy free parking, cafe, loo's and safe. Bonus being there's a few flounders to be had and talk of Bass if your luck is in. Let us know how you get on.
Hi Just found your channel I live between fraserborough and Banff I'm thinking of starting beach fishing but haven't got a scubby any trips on how to start Thanks Terry PS It has to be of the beach because I only have to see a boat and i feel sick 😂😂
Hi, Love that expression "haven't a scubby" they used to say that at work a lot 🙂. First tip, don't bother with expensive rods and reels because the fish don't know what you paid. Mackerel as a bait - everything likes mackerel. Start with small hooks - size four. Pick a sandy beach and away you go. Leave the rock slippy marks until you know what your doing. Gordon and I have some videos of the beaches around the north east of Scotland. Last tip, just enjoy it - fishing is good for you. Phil
Great to see the new creel working and some lovely crabs. The area looks lovely up there Phil.
Thanks Tommo. The new creel is much better suited for what I need and will be going down to Cornwall with me later in the year. Phil.
Would an Icelandic sea safety ticket any good for working back home in Scotland on fishing boats ? Thinking about fishing with people that understand me :)
Fit Lyke as my local freens would say. Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not sure about the sea safety ticket but the weather has been almost as cold recently :)
This video made me feel very cold!!!
Thanks Dave, Spring and warmer weather is hopefully just around the corner. Phil.
Great video Phil, thanks for sharing
Thanks Douglas. Think it would be good place to launch the kayak. Phil.
That's good you have fun now skip.back over the border back to England where you come from bloody English
Hi. Thanks for commenting and taking time to watch the video. Phil.
Thanks for watching my friends video Monty old chap, I think my friend is more than likely more Scottish than yersel old boy, if you are inerested in fishing go get yersel a rod and reel and get oot there, it will do you the world of good and help make yourself content inside and less likely to send silly comments online, tak care ma loon gweed health and tight lines tae yea 🎣🐟🐟🐟
Another good video Phil and to top it off you had two fish, Thank you,
Thanks James. Well done with the result in your last match 🫡 Tight lines Phil.
@anotherangleUK Thank you mate,
Love your content mate, I am local and been out of the fishing for a bit. You make me and the kids want to go out again. Sorry about slagging off your fly cast, didn’t know that you were injured 🙈
Hi Pete, thanks for the comments. No problem about the fly casting it's certainly an area for improvement. I think you and the kids would love Collieston Harbour. Nice safe little mark. Cheers Phil.
Another cracker of a vid mate👍 watching as always phil
Thanks Jamie, much appreciated pal. Tight lines Phil.
Great video Phil. Nice little picturesque mark. All the best 👍
Thanks Darren, I think it has potential for launching the kayak and getting around the headland in the summer. Phil.
@anotherangleUK definitely Phil, looks perfect 👌
Is there any big fish in that bay what's the biggest fish you caught there beautiful place what it like in summer might have a trip
Hi Bob, that was my first time fishing Collieston. The locals tell me there are good Conger to be had in the channel into the harbour. I think casting directly out has lots of potential when there's less colour in the water. In the summer it can be very busy with paddle boarders and kids jumping off harbour wall. It is however a lovely little fishing village and worth a visit. Phil
Wow. A friend had the job of fitting windows to one of those cottages back in the mid 90's and I came up with him from Edinburgh to lend a hand. We slept in the cottage before we fitted the windows. It was February and it was flippin' freezing! Lol. Lovely place, good session. 👍
They are friendly folk in the village, a couple came down to chat. I believe a few are holiday lets but majority are full time homes. Glad it brought back memories.
@anotherangleUK That is heartening indeed to hear the majority are full time homes. Best, Mark
Realy enjoyed watching that Phil, it’s great reliving the moment again and seeing what you caught on the day, it’s amazing tae see the amount of gear we carry around on these trips 😂 Was a great day and gweed company cheers 🎣🐟🐟🐟 Canna wait or the next adventure 👍
Thanks. There was more stuff in the car - I'd brought the drone but didn't fly it as the wind speed was too high. I'm surprised we didn't get any interest on the baits we cast out beyond the rocks. Next adventure is just around the corner. Cheers Phil.
@ There was mair stuff in my car also 😂
@@kintakintyea That'll be the 'just in case' stuff 🤣
@anotherangleUK 😂😂 Aye you got it! 😂😂
Fine Business! Your weather appears better than ours! we have that white stuff on the ground on Van. Isle.CHEERS to you both from here!!! And a shake of the paw to DEE
Hi, The sky was blue but the wind was cold. I'm sure winter isn't over but I can't wait for Spring and better conditions. Stay warm over there on Vancouver Isle. Phil.
Nice video fair plax
Thanks. We are lucky to be able to fish these lovely little harbours. Phil
nice video and a nice day ,I have been thinking about a creel similar in size to the one you have ,It looks ideal ,looking forward to the video that you plan to make . thanks again Colin
Hi Colin, I'm sure the new creel will be an improvement in many ways. I hope to get out and make a video soon. The creel was made by Jason at Broadsea Hooks who can be contacted via Facebook. Phil.
Great video as per usual, would love to see some more kayak fishing content as it gets warmer and more chance to get out, hoping to get out on mine soon probably out of Stonehaven for some mackerel and possibly a small lobster pot or two. Any tips on kayak fishing up this way or what type of rods are best, cheers.
Hi, thanks for the positive comments. Don't worry, I can't wait to get back out on the kayak. Didn't get out last year due to the shoulder operation. I've had great success catching Mackerel out of Stonehaven in late July / August when you'll find them off Downie Point. The next good launch is Catterline. Have a look at the videos. I've had Codling, Ling, Pollock and Wrasse jigging a lure directly under the kayak. There's also Mackerel there as well down towards the lighthouse. Stay safe out on the water. Phil.
Well done Phil..not a huge night..how ever a productive one...I am a new subscriber, recommended by Gordon and looking forward to new instalments...😎👍Aus
Hello Tim, great to have you aboard for the adventures. That was a cold night we had at Inverbervie but the fish we caught helped keep up the spirits. I've another video out next Monday and try to share something on a weekly basis. Phil.
Fantastic mate 👏 👏 👏
Aye a cracker from the boat but not had one from the shore up here - yet. 😉
@anotherangleUK you will buddy
Absolutely great! We've also got a 14ft boat, a Highlander from a Scottish boatbuiler - as you say, great size for self launching and easy handling on the water. Tight lines!
Thanks. I've seen a few of Highlander boats up close and they appear very well made. Enjoy your boat and stay safe out on the water and catch lots. Phil
Another good video .fairplay you get around .tight lines phil .soon time to get the boat back out
Thanks mate. Looking forward to getting back out on the boat, been doing a few maintenance jobs on her over the winter.
3 Rods??? That's something you'll most likely see on the south and west coast, probably is a lot of effort to setup and pack up. Does 3 rods really make a difference or is it a confidence thing? And how different are the rigs and hooks on each rod? Have you tried a Wessex rig for flounder fishing before?
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. The three rod set up certainly increases the chance of catching. The two 'beach' rods do have different rigs. The third rod is set up to try different approaches like the flounder spoon, spinner for Bass or Sea Trout etc. I made up a few Wessex rigs last year but haven't tried them yet. It certainly is more effort to carry along with camera tripods.
Great video Phil, really captures the harsh beauty of winter on the Scottish coast! Lovely flattie! I have to admit much of the technical aspects of sea fishing are lost on me (rigs, weights etc) but i like the idea of searching the area with a flounder spoon? Maybe that would work well in a more intimate area such as an estuary with a defined channel?? Good luck 👍
Funny you should say that, I think the rigs can get over complicated. I'm keeping to basic set ups as they use less components that make it hurt more when you loose a rig in the snags. I guess that's partly why I like clean beach fishing as I usually don't suffer lost tackle. (Can you tell I've lived in both Yorkshire and Scotland 😆). I agree about finding channels and deeper holes for the flounder spoons to search out the fish. Turbot are ambush fish so I was hoping I might have caught one - always next time.
I have no idea where that is
That's good, because I was asked by the owners not to name it on TH-cam. Thanks for watching. 👍
@ I get that. Where I live, near to *****, some fisherfolks leave quite a bit of waste behind which is a bit of a shame. It may have been stopped now as not been out pike fishing for a while. Very enjoyable video though thanks!
I usually have a bin bag in my fishing box and pick their mess up. It's embarrassing fishing surrounded by their rubbish. Thanks for watching, Tight lines.
Agreed! It is so easy and satisfying to take your rubbish home, you shouldn’t have to clear everyone else’s though, well done for doing so❤️
Great video Phil, cracking flounder too👌
Thanks Douglas. Hope you are okay after the storm hit your side of Scotland. Phil
@ thanks Phil, yeah all okay on the west.
Top quality as always mate. Feel like I was there with you both 😊
Thanks Tommo. Won't be long before you're back out on your boat having some adventures. Phil
@anotherangleUK doing jobs on it today, bright sunshine here and no wind today
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Same here, all nice a calm after the storm. Hope you're videoing the boat jobs.
@anotherangleUK we didn't have much of a storm down here, was a bit windy for 4 hours in the early hours then hardly anything all day yesterday. Thursday was windier! Hope your all ok up there
We fortunately only had 50 mph winds. The West and Central areas took the worse of it. i did wonder if we'd loose power but it was fine this time around. Glad you’re okay 'down south'. 😊
Hello Phil, I was out on Wednesday fishing myself on Whitepark bay, tide was running quite strong as it’s full of Deep gullies, so thought I wasn’t going to catch anything, the target was turbot and bass but ended up with four small flounders a seatrout and a dogfish so was happy enough with my first session of 2025, you had a brilliant flounder there well done keep the videos coming thankyou
Hi Ronnie, Good start to your season. Sounds like you had a great session before the storm. That will have shifted the sand around and created some new opportunities when it all calms down again. Stay safe. Phil.
@anotherangleUK cheers Phil thankyou
That's a cracking fish Phil. I have never fished the broch beach might be worth a little long line with my boat see if there's anything.
Hi Jason, it was good to fish some clean ground again. The outside of the break water there was so snaggy - I don't like loosing any gear at all. Looking forward to using the new creel. Gordon had some good footage of using his camera with his. Phil
@anotherangleUK yeah I would be the same leads aren't cheap to buy. Yeah Gordon had some cracking footage in his creel. Looking forward to your ony tjos year.
Great little session, Phil. Cold or not, the beach is a pleasure to fish from. Lovely flounder, too. I'm still to get my 40+ this year. Not for the want of trying! All the best 👍
Thanks Darren, that one was probably my best for a very long while. Good luck in your 40+ flounder campaign. Phil.
👍 From the ever so exotic East Lothian. A tad blowy today. Hope everyone's safe and well. Mark
Hi Mark, it's blowing up here but nothing like what's happening over on the West side. Take care mate. Phil.
Nice flounder and another enjoyable video! I note that naughty Gordon has lead you astray with his long line set ups! Only one new word for roe from him today! Think it was 4 when you were at the harbour! Keep the entertainment up you two! All the Best!
Thanks David, I'm continually expanding my doric but I'm sure I must be a frustrating student for poor Gordon. It was nice to get out before the storms - it's wild today.
Just catching up on your vids .Nice one again Phil.a stunning day with the surf rolling in .whst more could u ask for .
Thanks. That surf rather shouts Bass. I'm thinking I'll leave the shore rods at home and travel light with a lure rod..... You never know what's there do you.
looks like you had a good day ,and a lovely fish as a bonus ,well done Phil . cheers Colin
Thank you, I enjoyed fishing this beach. It was quite shallow and I think the surf made it difficult for the flounder to get to the bait. Gordon sent his Water Wolf camera down and you could see the whirlpool going on down there. Phil.
Looks A wee bit chillier than devon and Cornwall at the moment Phil …😊
Lull before the storm, wind and rain have arrived in Aberdeenshire 😳
@ 65 mph here in Salcombe last night , normal winter storm , but it looks like you guys are in for a bumpy one , we got a good day out on the water on Wednesday before the storms , albeit freezing out on the water , the bass and pollock were still biting off Salcombe
Sounds like you had a good session. A lot of folks hang up the rods in winter but it's often good fishing - so long as you're wrapped up well.
Quality fishing, some good specimen flounder. Enough to make you go back?
Thanks. I would go back maybe when there is less swell for the flatties. But, Gordon mentioned some lads had caught a Bass for there. That makes me want to just take a spin rod, small back pack, be mobile and work along the beach to see what I can do.
@anotherangleUK Sounds like a plan has hatched there!
@@bailienicoljarvie2878 So many options around this coast and also my fresh water fishing opportunities as well. We are very fortunate to live in such a wonderful part of Scotland.
@anotherangleUK Indeed, but you also travel far to catch, and have a great variety in your fishing. Great to watch.
Great Video Phil ,bonny Flounder well done .
Thanks Lenny, been getting a number of these better fish recently. Going to have one for the table next time. Phil
try cullykhan beach..just north of pennan ,,it used to be very good for flatties and the odd turbot..nice and clean fishing..
