Always a joy to watch Phil, great to see Dee back on camera👌also looks a pretty decent place to launch the kayak. I do love these little harbours especially with a few working boats.
Thanks Douglas, have you still got your kayak? The other good little harbour is Catterline just a bit further north. I've launched there quite a few times as you'll have seen on other videos. Have a great Christmas and I hope we can get out fishing together next year. Phil.
Fishing is fishing, Phil. Regardless of catch. I always view that as a bonus. A lovely bit of fresh air exploring the sea or river bed is enough for me. This time of year , everyone here in the North East is obsessed with Cod. Myself, I am happy to fish for anything at all. Big or small. Thank you for sharing . Your co host is a bonny thing. Merry Christmas.
Hi Darren, I agree it's just getting out in the fresh air and a fish is a bonus. A couple of my favourites this year were the little Ruffe and Gudgeon that I caught in the Norfolk Broads. Have a great Christmas. Tight lines Phil
Hi James. Thanks, I do like to try to fly the drone to get different footage. It's something else to carry to the marks so doesn't often get out with me. Have a great Christmas, looking forward to watching more of your videos next year. Phil
Hi Steve, it was good to have a look at the harbour at low water with a view to boat launching and recovery. The narrow channel looks like it takes no prisoners but I think there are some leading lights to follow. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
Bonnie wee herber, it’s gweed tae see Dee oot wae yea,gee her a clappie fae me, am always feert the dog grabs an old hook that mecht be lying aboot. Fine wee fishing session, plunty gryndees n a buddik tae keep yea busy, great stuff thanks for sharing Phil 👍🎣🦀🦀🦀🐟
Thanks Gordon, when Dee or any dog is around you have to take great care with the baited hooks. Dee's biggest danger is the drone - she'd grab it given half the chance but that's what terriers do.
@ Aye Phil but it’s the old hooks that are usually lying aboot wae old bits o bait that am always feert for, I see them now and then at the point o the peir at Boddam herber
Thanks Gary, the dog, Dee, loves being out and about. Whenever I can take her with me she comes out on the bank. I need to develop the drone pilot skills but am getting there with some of the footage. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
Dee dog loves it and would come out more often, however she does like to try to retrieve the weights as I cast them out. You can see that on one of the flounder videos. Have a great Christmas Pete.
She's good company fishing and has her sea legs for out on the boat. They just want to be out with you whatever you're doing. Have a great Christmas. Phil
You're right enough about it being a good shot for the cod that narrow channel for the boats and there is also a shot from the orange ring ,, but it's not like everyone thinks that area is loaded with cod all the time but it's only in the right conditions and sea state it can be very productive,, cracking area cheers 🎣👍
Hi Steve, thanks for watching and commenting. I agree it's worth heading down there when the sea conditions are right. It was good to check it out at low water and see where to cast. Have a great Christmas. Phil
I was there a few weeks ago for the Cod, and popped a light rod in the harbour. It was crab central both on the cod gear and the light gear. No fish at all for me. Fished Bervie the other evening and had a lot of small Codling, and a decent Dogfish.
Hi Rob, well that's interesting. In all my time fishing this coast I've never caught a dogfish here and didn't know there were any around Bervie. I'm sure some decent Cod (and hopefully) Haddock will show up next year. Have a great Christmas. Phil
@ I have been up here 40 years and that’s my first. Seems there are a few about and the bit I was fishing appears to be a hot spot for them from what others have said. Don’t mind showing you if you fancy catching one. Bait was a mackerel fillet and lugworm cocktail on a pennel rig. 😊
It's funny, in some part of the country angler are disappointed to catch a doggie but up here I'd be made up and have a big grin. 😀 Maybe see you at Bervie sometime.
As you know I don't do much fishing myself but I enjoyed looking at the harbour, the entrance, the tide drop and just generally being nosey, just as much as I do when you catch fish. It's also great to see how you set up
Hi Tommo. I've seen footage of the waves coming straight over the walls in a recent storm. Even the inner harbour at Stonehaven can get rough in a gale. The drone gives a good show of these harbours and that little slipway looks promising for my boat. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
You get a braw wee meal out local pub there as well. If I'm bait fishing and always take a hand line with rig on and leave that over side for congers. Easy to tie off and no chance of losing gear. Have caught a few monsters that way. Just an idea bro. Nice video as usual. Tight lines. 🎣
Would that be the Anchor Hotel? Looked inviting as I past by. That's a good tip regarding a hand line - much easier to stash in the bottom of my box and less to carry around 👍. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
Hi Rob, the really light rod and reel can be great fun. Try Portknockie through the hole in wall and drop a bait down in front of the wall. Lots of wrasse there. Have a good Christmas. Phil
Hi thanks for watching and commenting, makes it all worthwhile sharing the videos. The box is a kind of generic thing. You’ll see the same box with big brand names on the side or cheaper for same box unbranded. I like it because the rucksack attachment makes it super easy to carry. I’ve had this for about five years and it’s not had any issues. I’ve another in green for coarse fishing. I bought mine from here, quaysports.com/roddarch-sea-fishing-seat-box-with-side-trays-and-back-pack-converter
Hi Nicky, thank goodness I got a fish, it was very welcome regardless of the size. It was nice to get out for a while with Dee and enjoy the fishing. Have a great Christmas. Phil
Hi there, I'm not sure what function it performs. I assumed they were pumping salt water into the crab / lobster house to keep the holding tanks fresh? Looks a bit fragile considering the seas we get in these parts. Also interesting the creels / pots on the harbour wall were mostly the square wire type rather than tradition arched style. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
Hi Rob, I've not fished either of those places but they are on my mental list of places to try. I've fished Cullen and Portknockie both with some success. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
Thanks for the advice. I'm sure it'll not be long before the next storm comes along, it's been quite a year for windy weather. Have a great Christmas. Phil

That was a good video again Phil, like the drone filming it shows the Harbour were you are very well, Thank you mate,

Thanks Gary, the dog, Dee, loves being out and about. Whenever I can take her with me she comes out on the bank. I need to develop the drone pilot skills but am getting there with some of the footage. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
A day outdoors with a dog is never wasted!
Dee dog loves it and would come out more often, however she does like to try to retrieve the weights as I cast them out. You can see that on one of the flounder videos. Have a great Christmas Pete.
Great Little Dog!!!Good Luck with the fishing! Merry Christmas from Canadian Westcoast!!!
She's good company fishing and has her sea legs for out on the boat. They just want to be out with you whatever you're doing. Have a great Christmas. Phil
Nice one Phil and well done for persevering you got the fish in the end. It’s just good to get out fishing I got withdrawals syndrome here lol
Hope you can get out and have a fish again soon, always great to watch your videos mate. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
@ Thanks Phil same here always a great watch. Merry Christmas to you and your family too. Tight lines

Hi Phil keep the videos going I like the ground over low tide I would fish that after a storm in the gully for cod
Thanks Mark. That gully did look interesting. Do you use a pulley rig to minimise tackle loss? Have a good Christmas. Phil
I was there a few weeks ago for the Cod, and popped a light rod in the harbour. It was crab central both on the cod gear and the light gear.

Hi Phil, like yourself I have quite a bit of course fishing tackle but never given LRF a go could be worth a shot on a quiet day.
Hi Rob, the really light rod and reel can be great fun. Try Portknockie through the hole in wall and drop a bait down in front of the wall. Lots of wrasse there. Have a good Christmas. Phil
Another amazing video mate!!
What box is that? Would you recommend it?

Thats surely a fresh seawater supply (or discharge) pipe from the lobster/crab prep house? never noticed that before

Have you fished gardens town or pennan
Hi Rob, I've not fished either of those places but they are on my mental list of places to try. I've fished Cullen and Portknockie both with some success. Have a great Christmas. Phil.
you only fish johnshaven harbour in a storm or after a storm
Thanks for the advice. I'm sure it'll not be long before the next storm comes along, it's been quite a year for windy weather. Have a great Christmas. Phil
