Hi Phil, the bit with you sitting next to your rods in a fantastic sunrise with a coffee said it all. Nothing better on a day at the beach, tight lines mate.
Thanks Mate, the little Orkney Coastliner has been put away in the garage until next year. Going to be quite a bit more shore fishing for a while. Tight lines, stay safe out on Toadfish 2. Phil.
That was magic watching Phil, it was great tae see fit you wis uptil, you seem to be catching a better sized flounder beside you, well done I had to hold mine closer tae the camera tae mak thim look bigger 😂😂 What a great day fae start tae finish, lovley weather all be it cold, I coulna think o better company to fish alangside, thanks for that ma freen 🎣🐟🐟🐟
Like you say "what a day from start to finish". The sky was magical. Well done you for getting five species - top fishing Gordon. Looking forward to the next adventure together. Phil.
another good video Phil with a lot of flat fish, lovely scenery to go with it, i might make one for my microphone, Thank you for that, and Thank you for the video,
I'm not sure how much the lanyard would have helped you on your last disaster when the wind blew your tackle into the lake. However it would help secure expensive microphones and prevent them going for a swim. Thanks for watching. Phil.
Thanks for commenting. If I recall, it was you who mentioned giving the watch lead a try on an earlier video. Good shout, I'll be using them more frequently on these beaches. Phil
I've always wanted to try the flounder spoon after reading 'Sea Angling with the Baited Spoon' by John 'Seangler' Garrad. If I remember correctly he did most of it from the boat, and I think he had quite a lot of success for all sorts of species. The americans use a bigger version called a flasher while trolling, I wonder if it'd work when rough ground drifting for cod...
Hi, I think the flounder spoon would work well from the boat drifting over clean ground. Gordon made up some big 'fluke dowsers' that we tried off my boat on the Plaice video. The drift was far too fast that day but it has huge potential. Since making this video I have tweaked the set up and have shortened both the distance of the lead to the spoon and the spoon to the hook. I read 15 to 20cm was better. I'll give it another try sometime soon.
Cirrocumulous Stratiformis I think! Just been reading my weather book and its when all 3 cloud types merge! Lovely sunset at the end there. I used to use the "hot hands" but ended up getting some USB hand warmers that last about 5-6 hours and they're lovely. Only trouble is that the wife and kiddiwe always steal them!!! I also got a USB powered body warmer I can wear under the dry suit if needed which is very toasty and runs for about 5 hours on a 10K power bank.
Thanks Dave, I've also looked these up. I'm with you thinking Cirrocumulus or Mackerel Sky. These are an indicator of rain on its way but interestingly the following day was dry and settled. The book I have is the Philip's Guide To Weather Forecasting which I picked up in the charity shop. I'll have to see about USB hand warmers because my hands just stop working in the cold.
Beautiful morning light Phil. Enjoyable as always. I just love fishing the beaches, especially when we see views such as this. Take care .
Thanks Darren, I'm still after that big Turbot similar to the beauty you caught mate. There are our there just waiting for me to catch them. Phil.
I love it when the sky looks like the gorgeous beach below 😊
Thanks Tommo, this time off year we get fantastic skies up here.

@anotherangleUK no problem mate,
The watch weight works well on that type of beach.
