th-cam.com/video/b2EPaLSCRE8/w-d-xo.html - this is the video the mom watched about the whole "what I've learned since estrangement" thing. Personally, estrangement isn't on my radar (I'm not Asian, but family is HIGHLY valued by myself, siblings, parents, etc.), but I have been VEEEEEEERY hurt on a someone consistent basis for years, unseen, blamed for things, etc...and funnily enough, diagnosed & self-diagnosed with mental & physical health things as well (AuDHD, fibro, etc.)...and I've tried so hard to reconcile several differences between my parents and I (not political, but mental & physical health), but it is SLOW going. Years. Still ongoing. So...maybe this lady's daughter had to step away and is going through things that her parents won't accept; maybe she did try, and her parents are treating it like "out of the blue" because it's easier to blame than to accept responsibility...

thanks for making this video...I did notice the mother completely dismissed the daughter's concerns and hurt, completely glossing over it and calling it an "angry letter". I am sad to see that. Not once did the mother take accountability for the hurt, she caused her daughter. As a daughter going through the same troubles with my parents, especially my mom, it is so hurtful when I have reached out for years and years about the hurt that had been caused by their actions and mean remarks about me. I felt very belittled, my feelings dismissed and ignored most of my childhood and the "strings attached" refers to how my parents would constantly use "we fed you, paid for your education, put clothes on your back, etc." these are all used to guilt me into sweeping the issues under the rug. They also love to use the phrase "you should be grateful" and "I never did that" when I fully explained how they hurt me. My parents would watch me cry when I express how they hurt me and just stare at me and say, "when will you listen to me or let me talk?" The emotional neglect I felt as a child transferred into my adult years, and it never seemed to end no matter how much I addressed it with them. Whenever I felt sad or unhappy, my mom would tell me I should be thankful and pray instead of giving me a hug and asking if I was ok. So many things happened one after the other as an adult that made me realize that my own parents don't know me. Finally after sending a long long letter to them about how they hurt me and my boundaries moving forward, I was told "we don't have time for this" and they ghosted me for a month and a half. I finally got a thanksgiving invite from mom the day before thanksgiving and I had to turn it down despite the pain I felt all over again rejecting it. I explained there were so many concerns that were not addressed and I felt like my emotions and hurt were not addressed at all and completely ignored so I didn't feel comfortable attending. My mother told me I am selfish, that she didn't do anything wrong, and refused to take any sort of accountability for the emotional stress and neglect that I felt. She sent me a religious quote about how silence is what causes peace and solves conflicts. I told her if she knew me at all, she would know I have serious abandonment issues so silence is not the way to address any issue. Then, she sent me an email she was subscribed to, claiming I had RAD...a disorder I have never been diagnosed with or even had problems with in the slightest. I told her I just want her to take accountability and stop pinning it all on me and accusing me of having a disorder that I didn't have. I told her it was hurtful, as this disorder is common among adopted children with childhood trauma (I am adopted from Russia with serious childhood trauma which caused my abandonment issues)...and it hurt so bad seeing she would pin this specific thing onto me. I explained to her why it was hurtful and how I just wanted accountability and she just said "it is not your fault or our fault" and has been ghosting me since that day. I felt pain so much, even after deciding to not text mom anymore. I know that pain will come back at Christmas time. I love her so much and wish she would just be accountable. Sorry if this was long, I just wanted to show I can totally relate to the way this mother is acting in the video with taking zero accountability for the pain her daughter must have gone through and probably is still going through. Cutting off a parent is far from easy....

Bryce, you’re misunderstanding the link that so many are frustrated and angry with between Jody and the church. No one is under the impression or concerned that any bishops or stake presidents were getting a monetary kickback for recommending Jodi. The frustration is that Jodi was able to network within a tight and trusting religious community to the point she was recommended so often she was able to build a successful business as a single, middle aged, woman (I add these details because this is nearly impossible in Utah) who made millions. The concern isn’t bishops making money off of her, it’s the insane amount of money she made off of referrals through the LDS community. From your perspective, this was just a genuine referral from your bishop and you argue that this didn’t go up higher into leadership or that high up leadership had no knowledge or responsibility for this situation. While that might be true for you and many others, she had slithered her way into the community and recommendations were made from one ward to the stake to another stake and spread through the ‘Mormon Corridor’. Not every referral was from a bishop who personally knew her. If that were true could she have really built a multimillion dollar business off of only the referrals off of bishops she’d already met or clients she was seeing to others. No way! Plus it might not be the best idea for anyone to be taking advice or getting referrals for therapy from their church leaders. They literally have NO TRAINING on the subject. Members and ex-members do feel that the leadership of the Corporation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does or should have a responsibility to the members and community to be engaged, aware and on the lookout for someone like Jodi who is going to breach the safety of their own creation and abuse individuals, especially over the amount of time she did it and to the extent she did. There are no excuses. They were made aware of this at some point, to some extent and not only did they choose to let it fall on deaf ears and be neglectful, they had just begun to buy in and participate in meetings with Jodi (see Brad Wilcox).

She had been manipulating people for years and according to her niece, for decades, and it started when she was in school, and still a teenager. Many of her stories, abuse and bad behavior were known and even so, they supported her intelectually inside the community by giving her name as a reference. Look, I know many psychologists and I would not advice them to anybody, actually because I KNOW THEM VERY WELL. I know they are not to be trusted on. How could she go on causing so much damage and people still trusted her, is beyong my understanding. She should have been investigated thoroughly.

I won’t try and dance my way around answering such a controversial and complex line of questioning that would be bound to happen if I did answer the initial question. I will answer this for you though… I do not worship Joseph Smith. He is not God the father, nor is he Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter who brought forth the gospel as much as it matters whether or not the gospel is true. I have a testimony through the Holy Ghost. I have had my life saved in multiple ways by the instinctive feelings I couldn’t explain. When I attend church I have a unique feeling in my stomach that can’t be explained but it never happens to me accept in the contexts of when I “feel the Holy Spirit”. I have personal evidence and experiences of the power of the Book of Mormon. It doesn’t matter who brought that message forth. The message supersedes the missionaries who share it, it supersedes me, and it supersedes Joseph smith. You can tell me Joseph smith did this and Brigham young did that, but you can’t take away the experiences that us members of the LDS faith have experienced as a result of the “openning of the last dispensation” doesn’t matter who openned it. Joseph smith or otherwise. The truth is the truth and lies are lies no matter who says them

One goes to a service at a church, and there is beautiful building, beautiful candles, incense, stained glass, stories of ressurection and hope. People tend to be nicer and less rude there. Well, my understanding of Buddhism is that it's about losing attachments to ourselves or our egos. And I can see how losing such attachments could be painful. And, at least according to an Orthodox Christian priest I saw here on YT, a similar thing happens in Christianity. Which is that God puts us through trials to test or strengthen us. This word "mindfulness" confuses me. It's such a broad term. We think about so many things; so many things are on our mind. I don't claim to know anything completely. But as far as I can tell, "mindfulness" means something like "consideration" of others. And maybe "consideration" sounds like something authority tells us to do, and with this mind it's been re-branded. But I mean, okay, if mindfullness has its influences from meditation stuff going back to antiquity in India, it's a new name for an old thing.
