      @@DannyW-uz5kl I am a very active desert biker and here's the deal, you definitely can ride it but there will be sand and lots of it if there are persistent dry conditions and it is a long ride. AN overnight with a TON of water would be how I'd do it and strangely I have been thinking about doing it lately. I would take my E-bike for this and lug down a bunch of water. I rode MAG 7 finishing down Portal last Saturday for perspective. The really cool thing, you could take your bike all the way along that last hiking section till you hit the petrified wood overlooking Happy! Magic place but that pudding river IS a MAN EATER. Good Luck brother. . . when are you going, maybe I could come? Awesome place especially with changing leaves in Poison Springs. Cheers

    Although I agree that slot canyons are enchanting places to explore, you should be aware that they can become DEATH TRAPS during rein storms..even if it's not raining anywhere near by. I did this hike today. There were quite a few moments where I had to just go for it quickly before the fear took hold and I froze up. The down climb from the crux was… wow. I see why the route has claimed lives and is constantly requiring SAR response. Incredible how you made this video on top of the climb itself. Your work is mind boggling. I only took a handful of photos as I just wanted to get through safely. Were the shots of you walking away from the camera at about 9:20 done with a drone? You didn’t actually go back to get the camera, did you? That would be insane.

      I did go back of the cam that time but once in the climb I did use a "parked drone" while I was climbing. I've been rock climbing and a few other extreme sports for a very long time. . . and my first rock climb I was FREAKING OUT, LOL. Cheers Brother!

    Crazy mountain. Went up that one in August. Camped right where you stashed your bike. Your way up seemed a lot better than the way we took up and i only made it to jack lake and let my buddy go the rest of the way. I was happy with waiting for him at jack lake. We took gullys all the way back down too and for my first time ever climbing a mountain that was a crazy way to go down lol. It was my first experience in Colorado and cant wait to be back there next August.

    In 1994 I did the traverse as my first 14ers on my 21st birthday. I was with a group of four friends, but we did the traverse from Needle to Peak, and not via the standard traverse route (a bit more to the NW). Heading off the north side of the Needle at 8:30 in the morning, even in August, a thin veneer of ice, or verglass, made the down-climbing and traversing extremely tenuous, given the direct and constant near-vertical exposure of our chosen route. Those otherwise secure knobs were greasy with clear ice. Our group leader wasn't precisely sure of the route, so we had to route-explore as we went. Needless to say, it was spicy. That was long before any such guides to the traverses. After ascending the Red Gully on the Peak, we descended down the angry-loose gully on the north side, traversed around to Bear Playground, and headed up Humboldt for a trifecta. Lightning slammed down right as we were approaching the summit and, on rubber legs, we ran down literally the entire summit block as a storm battered us with bolts on all sides. I've since done Humboldt four more times, including snowboarding off the summit, but I still count that one in my head as a summit, because it was such a massive effort that day and we would've otherwise made the remaining bit if it weren't for the sky unleashing on us. Epic in the actual sense.

      WOW, I know things were way tougher then, I do lots of research and it helps a lot and when I "just go" it's tougher for me too. I can't believe you got that all done in a day! Strangest thing, thunderstorms just are not as big of a threat as they used to be since they are less frequent now. . . not like when I was a kid and it was almost clockwork. . . Cheers

      Yeah our first group adventure, thought their skill and fitness levels showed well and made it relatively easy to get this done in an organization manner! Thanks, Karl 👍

    That looks like serious fun. How does it compare to Kit Carson's north ridge?

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Difficulty is fairly similar, but the commitment on Kit Carson is huge in comparison plus the usual weather and altitude factors make it much tougher. I sure did love that climb though!

    I’m guessing the difficulty of the giant slab is similar to that of the 2nd Flatiron in Boulder?

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Second Flatiron is much steeper, can't be in hiking boots!! A technical climb v. a long, tough scramble.

    Thanks for sharing. Nice to see Crested Butte from up high. That 401 is awesome and love seeing those bikes come flying down it. Haven’t done Crested Butte this year, but maybe, we’ll see how it goes. In Ophir yesterday. Good video!😀👍

    Karl how did this area north of crested butte compare to the San Juan’s?

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Way better than expected, no 14er in the immediate area but very beautiful and we had a GREAT time on our bikes as well!

    • @KarlDeckerPresents

      Well, first off much more solid rock for the entire climbing sections, almost as aesthetic but not quite, easier, less loose down climb.
