Good to see Spencer with you! He sure is smooth moving through that class 3 and 4. And your no slouch yourself! Thanks for bringing us along via the train 🚂
Oh Lord Spencer is gonna love reading this! He IS very sure-footed in some pretty dicey situations. I really wanted to do more with the train footage but it was already going to be a relatively long production. It was a very cool ride! Karl 👍
@@KarlDeckerPresentsI’m Jared’s dad and we’re both a big fan of yours! Love your videos! We had a wonderful time in the area! Jared got all 4. I got to 14020 on Sunlight and just couldn’t stomach the exposure. We camped 3 nights in the basin and loved every minute! Eolus scares me way more than sunlight. Maybe one day I’ll be able to come to grips with my exposure fears!
Thanks. Another beautiful well produced video. Brings back wonderful memories from when I wasn't a semi- invalid. The 4th class ridge on Eolus looks great; at the time I opted for the standard 3rd class route, which was still really good. The train ride in makes this a special and memorable adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate your comment, tried to bring the whole adventure, the train ride was fantastic, our first ride! Sets the tone for a very special trip! Karl 👍👍
That was badass Karl. Man that footage was top notch. You really show what it's like to climb up there. Well done. I'm taking the train in a couple weeks. Can't wait.
Appreciate it! Thanks very much, you'll be happy to know that Sunshine and Windom Peaks video just processed into 4K and will be published soon, hope you enjoy! Karl 👍👍
Karl, I have always wanted to ride the train! Plus, the backpacking in the Wilderness area, and the 14er summits...so can't thank you enough for this superb VLOG!! You're appreciated buddy!!
This is an awesome video and trip. You did exceptionally well telling a story from the train ride to the beautiful basins. Loved the look of Twin Lakes basin and backdrop peaks. Don't see that kind of beauty every day! Look forward to seeing your Windom Peak combo excursion.
This is my favorite video on this channel. Chicago Basin is just beautiful and congrats on two more summits! As a California native and someone who did his first few 14ers only last year, I think I'll build up 14er experience before attempting these Chicago Basin peaks. But I plan to attempt Longs Peak this year🤞 Keep up the great work, Karl!
Honestly, in my opinion, Longs would be much harder as a big Long one day push. The technical sections on this weren't really any harder and relatively easy/short hikes if you have a high base camp as we did. Thanks for your support, Karl
Very nice climbs in a stunning area. Wikipedia indicates Mt. Eolus is named after Aeolus, the Greek God of Winds. I am happy that you had a beautiful day.
Thanks, Karl. The only time I got to climb Eolus was in a lightning storm, all socked in. I made it to the top, but I never got to see it. Then it started hailing and we had to run down. By the time we hit the Upper Chicago Basin there was 5-6 inches of graupel everywhere. What a trip!
No problem! Wow what else could have been thrown at you when you summited?! Seems from all the stories, folks were more resilient, independent, maybe just tougher in general... thanks for the comment. Karl 👍👍
Amazing vid! Your editing is awesome. Quick question, what day pack did you use and what did your friend use? Did you just throw them in your larger backpacking pack?
Thanks for the nice comment! Very much appreciated. Honestly, my day pack is just an Amazon $30. sale piece. Not sure about Spencer's, but yeah we just stuffed them in the big ones. Nothing special, I spend very carefully on gear LoL.
Camping is not permitted at Twin Lakes. The designated campsites are below at about 11,200 feet near treeline. This might be a wilderness area, but the 14er campsites are heavily used.
I used to access Chicago basin from Vallecito Creek in the early 90’s and then flag the train back to Durango to end our loop. Your video brings back amazing memories - the Mtn Goats were interesting back then too, as one actually ate the back of my North Face shell that was hanging on a bush to dry. Trails did not exist back then to the upper lakes and beyond, but do get it as that area does get a few more folks today, compared to back then. Another great video!

I was just up there last week with my dad. Knocked out all 4 as well. Pretty country.
Very cool with your Dad! Karl 👍

Been living in silverton and creede the last 5 years! Love this video!
Awesome to hear that man!! Actually my first time taking the train as well as hiking up there! Amazing, Karl 👍👍
Love your videos Karl! Thank you for producing them! Music is great
Really appreciate it my friend, trust me! Karl 👍

Oh man, thanks again! Means a lot to hear that... actually started the long edit process on the other summits, so stay tuned!! Karl 👍👍
Another great Video. Thanks to you both for showing us such beauty in the mountains.
Glad you enjoyed it Ron, appreciate your comments as always! Best to you, Karl 👍

Thanks for that! My good friend told me that about the name also, appreciate the info and the nice comment! Karl 👍
Amazing Karl !!! 🙂
Petr, big thanks my brother 🙏!
Super sweet. Heading out there in a week. Can’t wait
Oh you're gonna love it! Best of luck and hope you have great weather, Karl 👍!
I hiked Chicago Basin back in the 70s before the 14ers frenzy. We were the only ones up there
Let's turn back the clock....no crowds in Colorado!! I kinda remember those days, Karl 👍

one of my favorite areas! thanks for making one of your awesome videos to it!
Of course!! Thank you for the nice comment, it's appreciated 👍👍. Karl
Pretty cool especially with the train ride. Thanks for sharing! 😀👍
Teresa Krolack Owens shared your video with me when we returned from our trip! Watching this is almost like reliving that magical experience!
Great to hear that, appreciate the share!! Thanks again, Karl 👍
7:20
1st encounter with The Weminuche goats "awwww cute"
5th encounter "I hope you get struck by lightning"
Did I say that LoL?
@@KarlDeckerPresents That's what I said when dealing with them last summer. They're so annoying.
Awesome!
Thanks!
great video .
Glad you enjoyed it! Karl 👍
@@KarlDeckerPresents i fly long range drones but different kind then yours . so i love dreaming of cool places to fly on your channel .

Awesome! I appreciate you answering that. There's some hidden gems with Amazon lol. Have fun on the next adventure and be safe out there!
It was so good meeting you at island lake!!! I need to get that deer vid from you. Happy trails friend 🧡
Hey! Fun meeting you too, Karl. Best of luck with everything 👍👍
Uploaded just in time for my Sept finisher trip up there! Hiking in from Purgatory.
Thanks for your vids!
Good weather wishes for your trip! Should be awesome, thanks for your kind words, Karl 👍👍
Vestal & Arrow ?!
Definitely been on the Radar for awhile! Must do!
Say, why didn’t you camp at Twin Lakes? Is it okay? Or have they nixd that option?

As he said, not an option. Thanks 👍
Thanks! How times have changed…..20+ yrs ago we did and it was epic

Very cool! Maybe we'll meet up somewhere in the future, Karl 👍
When did you do this hike?
Around July 10
