I feel like Oda didn't like the implications Mihawks design brought to the table. Oda has always been very deliberate on how he shows Mythology but in Mihawks case I don't think he understood what a "Cross" would signify in the grand scheme. Implying Jesus has existed on the World of One Piece. Since various other religions are shown it's really not a huge stretch in the imagination that the man who wears a cross has a significant affinity to "God" or Jesus. I really think Oda regrets showing us Mihawk.
