I’m at the start of Impel down (I think it’s called) watching these videos is really bad fir me because I’m probably being spoiled but I happened to remember this fact, probably bc my head hasn’t been filled with a bunch of other stuff that happens later
i feel like most of kaidos backstory in wano is already known oda probably held back on his time with rocks in order to not spoil it. I think it will be fleshed out more later. because in the databook it says kaido was a dominant force even as a rookie, and at the end of it he got a fruit and abandoned big mom. Something big must've happened.
Franky was such a good villain that i genuinely hated him for what he did to Usopp and didn't want him to join the crew for the longest time. But he redeemed himself by making the Sunny, which was the goal for the money anyway. Plus his personality shined through during Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark.
Crazy how Kaido has less kills than Kanjuro during the raid. He’s strong, but that’s about it. I wish he got more interesting development but it is what it is.

tbh I would say doflamingo does really see his crew as a family, more just sees them as tools to use and knows how to manipulate them to get what he wants, he acts the family type leader but really hes leading a cult to get the most out of his crew members, he even told that to corazon when talking about law, that he had to just "educate" law into giving his life with the ope ope fruit
For Law, sure, but for his crew members he's known for decades? Nah, there's no moment where he even thinks that way about them in the story, so unless you think he's gonna be brought back and it'll be revealed he was lying about loving his crew the whole time it doesn't make much sense
What I've always liked about Big Mom is the demonstration of her geopolitical power, totally different from other emperors. It's not just Big Mom and her commanders, I see a powerful imperialist nation with thousands of warships. She is truly an Empress of the Seas. The other thing is the symbolism she carries, more than any other Yonko. I see european imperialism, Circe and Polyphemus from the Odyssey and even the Queen of Hearts of Wonderland and the Wicked Witch of Oz.
Kaido would have surpassed Doflamingo if we had gotten a good backstory. I don't completely understand Kaido's motivations and I find that frustrating.
I mean it goes into it a bit. We see him as a child trained to be a killing machine for the World Government. Despite him not wanting to be held down by the government, he had that killing machine mindset engraved in him. So, on top of wanting to be or find Joy Boy, he had a major war fetish and wanted to lead the ultimate war. Ironically it'll probably be Luffy who does that.
Sometimes being a villain doesn't have to had a good backstory or backstory at all, they just exist and i think its good to diversify it and i think it fits Kaido IMO
The Bellamy thing was different. *Because Luffy and Zoro knew they be okay,* but if they tried that on the *weakling trio...* then Bellamy's story would've ended EVEN sooner!~
The scene where Belemy beats up Luffy and Zoro to me was more of a principle battle between those with dreams and those without. Which leads to Luffy just OKO on Bellemy later

Finally someone actually explain Orochi without being biased and only saying he is a trash character, I know lot of people hate him for being useless but his plan was well done to bring suffering to the people of wano. For Kaido, here is the thing, he doesn't really need a deep long backstory, it's clear that Oda just want the readers to know that Kaido is just this badass man who refuses to die and will keep fighting to survive, and even in the current timeline he is doing a pretty good job controlling what happens at wano like capturing Luffy and trying to destroy his spirit and keeping him as his underlings just like Hawkins. Though I expect him to do more like Doflamingo did but he is still a good villain, it's just that Oda want all the hatred focused on Orochi rather than Kaido. Even if we get Rocks flashback if Kaido only have a minor role and I don't care since I already know what kind of person and ideal he holds.
FINALLY SOMEONE GIVES HODY THE RESPECT HIS ROLE DESERVES. The scene when he says humans have done nothing to him proved to me that he was just supposed to represent what being raised as an oppressed race could result in. Ive seen characters similar to that in other books that get praised for it.

I think people get too hang up on back stories. Kaido character has been developed though all the lines he ever said since his introduction. That's how we readers get to understand his character. Kaido ideology fits the idea of the survival of the strongest. In this word you need to be strong and there is no space for weaklings. He wants to start the biggest war so that only the strongest will remain as they are the only ones who deserves to live. His complexity and thinking are shown to us by every single word he says.
The Drugs in the Tamatae Box give the New Fishmen Pirates Forced Transformations that appear and behave similar to Gear Fifth in many respects (minus Toon Force; that’s a Sun God Nika Exclusive)

i think your take of kaido is a bit iffy, i love how the physically strongest being is traumatised with psychological issues and wants to kill himself yet he cant, spending this whole time trying to build up the strongest army so that he could create the largest war and die at the hands of joyboy. furthermore the idea that shanks intercepted kaido before marineford, there was no way he couldve fought him so shanks mostlikely told him to continue to wait for joyboy knowing that luffy was infact joyboy and would put a stop to him.
Yea as I said depending on the rest of Kaidos time in the Rocks Pirates and other flashbacks he could quickly become incredible, won't give my final final take till he's dead or the story ends. So far it's a lot of puzzle pieces that haven't been brought together completely

@@legitanator As I said in the video, I think his Ideology was one that needed to exist in an arc based around racism, and he's fundamentally different from Arlong, you can't just insert Arlong in because the arc would make no sense, Arlong would never harm a fishman, but Hody would and has (Arlong would NEVER in a million years kill the Queen), Hody never experienced racism directly, but the generational hate was passed down to him, just like many in the real world, we explored what a victim lashing out in the worst way would be with Arlong, but Hody represents the generational affects racism has on children and without him, that key message of the arc that was mentioned time and again would just be an interesting point with no examples to look to

tbh i disagree about doflamingo. aside from the fact that he treats his people like family, he really is just a psychopath with an interesting backstory. i don’t think the way he treats his crew automatically turns him from a one dimensional villain we’ve all seen before to a multidimensional villain with a lot of layers. it’s a cool thing about his character but that’s about it for me
For me that's a huge change, I don't think someone can be a psychopath if they genuinely love others so it changes everything about doflamingo, showing that he understands everything he's doing and does it with joy, which is much more terrifying than someone without empathy
@@Impel6 fair enough, that’s one way to look at it. i just see it as them taking him in and essentially raising him so they pretty much ARE his family, and so they’re an exception to his madness. i just don’t think it’s a breakthrough in villain writing for them to be able to show genuine compassion, at least it’s not a complete game changer to me. truly evil people can still be loyal to a certain group of people. perhaps since it’s uncommon for villains like doflamingo to display this type of loyalty it stands out more. great video by the way
Doflamingo had a nightmare where he woke up and looked terrified. That stuck out to me as not seeming very psychopathic. And his heavy drinking to handle his demons. Best villain in OP imo. He was evil because first of all he was just born completely vicious and loses all sense when angry. Completely different from his brother. Second his experiences have shaped him, and Trebol's influence of course. He grew up believing he was above everyone and it was reinforced by Trebol

Doflamingo had a nightmare where he woke up and looked terrified. That stuck out to me as not seeming very psychopathic. And his heavy drinking to handle his demons. Best villain in OP imo. He was evil because first of all he was just born completely vicious and loses all sense when angry. Completely different from his brother. Second his experiences have shaped him, and Trebol's influence of course. He grew up believing he was above everyone and it was reinforced by Trebol
