    This is like comparing Chrono Trigger to FF6, you shouldn’t, they are both two, way different games. Chained echoes is all about complexity and depth in combat, while sea of stars is simplistic and rhythmic in design. Chained echoes is much more dramatic, while sea of stars is light hearted and very tongue in cheek. You should not put them against each other, you should celebrate the fact we have both of them to enjoy. Chained Echoes is a phenomenal achievement. Sea of Stars is a masterpiece. What’s wrong with both things being true ? Chained Echoes did so many things so well, it’s hard to find a game that pulls that off that doesn’t have a SquarEnix logo beside it, while Sea Of Stars does a few things to perfection. It’s amazing how they both went towards opposite ends of the spectrum and both succeeded to the nth degree. Stop arguing about them, celebrate them together. What a day to be alive, to have the early-mid 90s vibe all over again. Just enjoy them both.

    Chained Echoes is far superior. Which is incredible because it proves a point that, to my taste, games don't necessarily need to be made by studios. CE was made by one guy and one composer and it is a complete and deep game. Sea of Stars is beautiful, but shallow and small in comparison. What does that say about the gaming industry today?

    Hey thank you, I played sea of stars and could not finish it due to boring combat system, too much patern gameplay for my taste and leveling system was huge let down too. I restrained myself from buying chained echoes because I tought it would be prety much the same. Now i can buy chained echoes with confidence. I think i will like it better.

    For what I see it: The pocket screen is too small, and that is my first gripe. The second is that it is too much of a limited device, unless all you care is GB/GBA stuff. The FPGA part is very limited compared to something like MiSTer, but that is not portable, so they have points in the portable category. If I need an adapter that cost a ton of money for every cartridge type, I am better off using original hardware, and play games as they were meant to be... If I need to "emulate" even in hardware with FPGA, I am still playing a copy of the original thing, so at that point what is the advantage of the pocket then, compared to a Steam Deck or other devices that are bigger or cost less and have a full range of features? Even as pure GB/GBA device, there are some new FPGA devices coming out that can play original cartridges; the screen is not as good but it is also in a totally different price range. So it really depends from who you are in the end; I got one and sold it because I was hoping to use it on my TV and on the go; but then I saw that it was a pain to use as portable device because their UI is horrible for both FPGA cores and for cartridge games, as it is missing a lot of features and QOL compared to software emulations; and to even plug it to your tv you need a 100 dollars dock... because they didn't bother to put a video out chip on the Pocket itself so you must use their dock. If you account for all the costs and hassle; you can buy a MiSTer for your TV and a Ambernic for when you are on the go, and still pay less than what you pay for the Analogue... And for most part you get a better experience, beside some very specific details.

    It seems the game might be getting a decent amount of polish between now and release. They're adding voices for one, and it's being worked on internally by CBU3 at SE(the section who manages FFXIV and FFXVI). It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

    Glad of your new upload. A thing i would like to point out regarding DQ, direct ports sells horribly, all the pokemon games rerelease on 3ds eshop sold collectively less than a million copies while the awful let's go game sold 15 millions (with the hefty pricetag) so it makes sense for other companies with less popular brands to go the remake route as well, as for the art style it seems consistent enough to me but we also should remember they will need to pivot away at some point now that Toriyama is out of the picture. As for Zelda i'm honestly kinda baffled by the excitement... the game is going to be pretty shallow and probably easy, it's basically another Princess Peach Showtime aimed at introducing the franchise to small kids with a focus on the female audience. So basically it's another spinoff game that people say will love but then will not play.

    • @PestulonGaming
      @PestulonGaming 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the thoughts! I see your point about ports, and I think it touches on a deeper conversation about general product availability to the consumer and company goodwill vs. the immediate dollar. There are plenty of examples of Square Enix embracing the former. I would expect less money to be made from basic ports, but I also don't think those ports would sabotage eventual remakes. Whatever the situation is with Hori and Square Enix's plans for classic mainline DQ games, they possess the resources to tactfully roll out simple ports of specific titles (i.e., the ones that are not being actively remade). But that's not happening. Instead, 64% of mainline DQ is vaulted, and they're remaking the scant few titles that are already available. This is not an issue with FF, Mana, Saga, and plenty of other examples in Square Enix's roster. Regarding the notion that DQ will need to pivot away from Toriyama's art style, I do not follow your logic here. Toriyama's studio and estate continue. His passing doesn't mean that Dragon Ball will suddenly look different. However, it could be that Hori and Square Enix decided to distance themselves from Toriyama and Bird Studio before Toriyama's passing, and that might explain the more generic character designs and cover art in this remake. And that possibility worries me. (But it could also be that it's just a one-time thing for the I-III remakes.) Regarding Zelda, clearly we're on different wavelengths with this announcement. I feel like the excitement has been oddly low for a brand new Zelda game. The Princess Peach Showtime comparison did cross my mind, and yes, clearly the game is geared toward kids (like most Nintendo games). I'll also agree that we just don't know how good this concept will actually be in practice. The unique mechanics could hurt more than they help. But considering how innovative TotK was and how Nintendo hasn't come with a Zelda flop in many years, I'm optimistic.

    I think Sea of Stars is a marvel to behold from a technical and artistic point of view - it looks amazing, the animations are great, the artstyle is on point and it uses a modern engine to elevate pixel art to new levels. If only the writing didn't suck as badly as it did (especially this really weird fixation on Garl of all people for whatever reason - which I guess is something you either love or hate) ... it had so much potential but ended up being pretty disappointing in the story and writing department, and that is honestly one of the single most important parts of an RPG to me. So Sea of Stars really is the essence of Style over Substance. Haven't played Chained Echoes yet but from what I've heard so far, it should be right up my alley.

    I love both, sea of stars is more lighthearted and basic, but its really good, the soundtracks in Sea of stars are simply phenomenal. Chained Echoes on another hand is probably my favorite jrpg of all time, the story is just so good, nice pacing and plot twists, only thing I didnt like was the difficulty that seemed to spike some hours into the game, I did turn it down sometimes but then it was too easy, Sea of stars was just perfectly balanced in this regard. Also a big thumbs down in Sea of stars is the fact that the true ending is hidden behind collectibles, not a fun way to play the game too constantly use guides making sure you get every collectible along the way, I just ended up watching the true ending on youtube.

    The 615dpi screen for original LCD emulation on the Pocket is still unbeatable. But how long before Powkiddy or any of the others make a device with a screen with just as many pixels in it, or more pixels, allowing that kind of pixel representation with standard emulation? If software emulation is just as good as FPGA hardware emulation, then the only standout features of the Pocket is the screen itself and the ability to play real carts.

    I wonder if the launch AP systems had dpad issues I personally have no issues with my non launch AP the dpad works great. As far as Game Gear controller layout its totally available in FPGA so why its not using carts is pretty lame. I personally don't own any GG carts I only play via fpga. Adding the dock to my AP was a game changer for consoles like Neo Geo, TG16, Genesis etc. The pocket is my favorite way to play the systems it supports I wish a Lynx core would come out that I still emulate. At some point this year I would like to add a Mister for playing systems that the AP doesn't support. I am surprised you prefer emulation over fpga but thats why we have choices. I am going away for a couple days and the Pocket & my Playdate will fill my gaming needs while traveling.

    I tried to give some of these emulation handhelds a chance, but I honestly found them inferior to the pocket's fpga and screen quality. (I have not tried a steam deck yet) But that being said, I only play roms of gg, snes, and gens. I guess I'm bit more willing to go the extra mile to patch a game with game genie codes, or patch a game is an IPS file to Save Features in games like Mega Man X.

    • @keaton718
      @keaton718 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes for me just knowing that the FPGA Pocket will play more games closer to the original than any current emulator capable of running on a portable is enough for me. I want to be certain things are the same, that text won't look weird, or lag that was on there when I was a kid is still in there in the exact same spots in the game. I would buy a modded GBC and GBA and flash carts, but I'd spend just as much at the end of the day as getting the Pocket, maybe even a little more. Plus I wouldn't be able to play SNES and Genesis games with (near) perfect hardware emulation either.

      I got mine in August of 2023 and the D-pad absolutely issued ghost diagonals. I wonder if some people don't notice because they're playing games that aren't affected? I modded my unit by putting kapton tape over the inner halves of the underlying conductive circles on the PCB. That eliminated the stray diagonals. But it also made it trickier to transition from inputing a non-diagonal to a diagonal. For example, it's harder to slide under a brick while powered-up in Super Mario Bros. than it should be. Overall, the mod is a big improvement. But you'd think a brand new $220 device would have inputs at least as good as an ancient $10 NES controller…

    I actually played SOS first and then went right into Chained Echoes. Thoroughly enjoyed both. Both battle systems were very cool and have some novel mechanics that kept it fun and fresh. Visually and soundtrack I’d give the edge to sea of stars but not by a landslide in either. I was more upset with the ending of chained echoes than I was with sea. Not the open ended feel on a lot of plot points (sequel?) but more so about Kylian. We have Glenn living a dozen lives and being “groomed” by Gwayn to have Kylian have a “eh youre good enough moment” and we get it in a flashback. Left me sour Both dope games and I’m glad I played them. Kinda wanna let’s play them as a first and second dive into content

The PS1 version really could only improve it in one way, cut scenes but the load times were really the counterweight there. Even though the DS version had the miniscule 'gameplay expansion' and was a portable edition, I'd say that'd be the definitive version of the main game. No load times made the cut scenes maintain the flow of the original game and while the dual screen feature made a map visible for the entire game as the world was explored...Maybe they could add that feature simply by making the map an 'R' extension of the menu? Visually, the pixelated graphics have their own ways of popping out to the player so if it was all remade entirely, I'm uncertain of how clearly the expressions would be differentiated given today's HD picture-tech. Although, I guess if Square-Enix really intended to remake this tale...they'd have the funds set aside to pay the necessary artists to do this sh*t proper! I could be mistaken but if you read all this jabber-jibber, thank you. Let's all hope for the best!

    you really beat around the bush and over explain yourself alot. to me Chained echos does alot better job at getting you hooked on the story and the word and the music just sucks you right in and makes you excited where to go next. Sea of Stars is slower and more nuanced it hard ot get you to care about anyone so far and im 15 hours in and just dont care what happening and the music is awful. like NES level awful.
