Let's discuss today's new Analogue Pocket firmware (1.1-beta) along with its new features and the already-fruitful development community.
Props to spiritualized on GitHub (github.com/spiritualized1997) for coming forward with these cores mere hours after the release of openFPGA.

Great video man. Thanks for the breakdown and feedback. I'm gonna link your video in my channel's community tab.
I'm still waiting for my pocket, I'm Q4 (I think), now I want it a bit more. I really hope other cores are developed.
Nice one, once again great video.

Thanks for the support! By Q4, hopefully we'll have some more cores available.

@@PestulonGaming That would be nice. At this rate I feel it'll simulate the Nintendo Switch by the time I get mine 😂

Happy to see this. I'll be getting my Pocket in 2023 so hopefully they have Roms fully up and running well by that time.

2023 will likely be a VERY good time to get introduced to the Pocket.

The Library feature is being expanded later this year, it'll make more sense then, where you'll be able to learn details about all kinds of games and systems.
Also, flash carts still have usefulness. The time/date isn't working properly yet for games, but some flash carts support this. Also, the alternate display modes for games also don't work currently from ROMs.

I am hopeful the library feature will make more sense. I'm just puzzled at the notion of the Pocket needing to double as a games encyclopedia, especially since it won't officially support a digital library (outside of native .pocket files).

@@PestulonGaming I agree, I’d really like to see the feature work with ROMs, I’m certain they could make that work.

The Pocket is going to have Tracking features in future, i.e. tracking of which game you played on certain days, and for how long, similar to the Activity Log on the 3DS, so the Library is necessary to identify those games for that eventual feature. It's also very likely that eventually it'll unofficially be connectable to the ROMs on the SD card, so that you can browse your list of games with all this info, instead of just a list of titles.

What’s the difference between me sending money to Analogue, vs sending money for a MiSter kit, or its components? The profit margins on each Analogue pocket aren’t that substantial.

I don’t see any, the Mister project has sold a ton of de10 nanos for Terasic.

I assuming you're referencing the RetroRGB tweet I showed? Not much, I suppose, but I guess some might argue that MiSTer is truly open source. openFPGA is not touted as open source by Analogue, or at least I cannot find a mention of Analogue defining it as open source. (This may not make much difference at the end of the day for developers, but just pointing out that MiSTer has a known reputation as being an open source, community-driven project.)

Better off getting a Miyoo Mini or an Anbernic RG351V. You can even get both devices for well under below half the price of an Analogue Pocket with less hassle setting it up. Works right out of the box and runs much more than just handheld consoles!

Miyoo Mini V2 video incoming. The Mini has been the biggest surprise of 2022 for me. I LOVE the thing, but I do think the Pocket still has a very relevant place. For me, the main appeal of the Pocket has always been the ability to easily dock, and that holds true today. The Pocket offers a very seamless docking experience, and I'd say it's second only to the Nintendo Switch. Even the Steam Deck is still kind of a nightmare to dock at this point.

@@PestulonGaming I can't wait to see your vid of the Miyoo Mini! I love my Miyoo Mini, I'm even playing Sega CD Wheel Of Fortune on it. Also, did you ever get the Anbernic RG353P? I have the RG353P and it's such an awesome little device. I had to purchase the other edition as well. Purchased the Transparent Black one first then the SNES version later.

@@jonathonearl482 Miyoo Mini, RG351V, and the RG353P are all fantastic systems! The thing that's great about the RG353P is you can connect other controllers to it via Bluetooth, then easily hook it up to your TV via HDMI and start playing some multiplayer Maro Kart 64, Goldeneye 007, WCW vs. NWO, or many other multiplayer games! Can't do that with the Analogue Pocket!
