  • I'm checking in to give you my impressions of the first three hours of Final Fantasy I (Pixel Remaster). I've never played an early Final Fantasy game, so this is an altogether new experience for me. I'm hoping to inform other new players looking to pick up these early entries via these "Pixel Remaster" remakes.

I was down on these at first when I saw some of the screen captures, but having beaten 1 and am a good long way through 2, these are really good remasters. The QOL updates really make the game way more fun, and the music is *insanely* fucking good. I'm incredibly stoked to get IV, V, and VI just because I want to hear the new renditions of these tracks.

I had to play in windowed mode to avoid the screen tearing, so I hope they find a fix for that. But what I'm really looking forward to is what the modding community can come up with.

I prefer the PSP Version for the Extra contents and stuff. (FF1,2&4) and GBA content (FF5&6).
I Like the idea of replaying a old game, but new stuff added in,
I Definitely got Final Fantasy 3 Pixel ReMastered.

Nice video! Yeah, there's no excuse for the bad fonts you have to fix yourself, the missing v-sync option you also have to fix yourself, the choppiness when walking around, the missing end-game from the previous rereleases, and I'll add another missing feature that exists in the rerelease of FFVII, VIII, IX, X and XII : the ability to speed up the game by 200% or 300%. Sure, auto-battle speeds up the battles but not enough when you want to breeze through a dozen fights. Luckily, you can download cheat-engine and set the speedhack to 5x and set a key on your controller to toggle the speedhack, so it fixes this problem. Aside from all this, the three games are good for what they are. With today's standards in mind you can't rate them higher than 6 or 7 out of 10, but as a FF fan I'd give them a good 8/10. Can't rate them higher than this given the above issues (also, by reworking how the back row works in FF2, it makes high evasion / shields mandatory at times : with no evasion, your whole team can be stunlocked to death or insta-petrified by an army of cockatrices. That's game-over without you being able to do anything about it). Some say that by buying those you have great music albums with games as a bonus feature and they're not wrong LOL.

Good insight! I do remember hitting that 3x button quite a lot in FFVII. I'm hopeful that they bring more QOL features in patches. (I'm guessing Square Enix will treat this as a WIP as they do with many of their games.)
