Dealers like to put a dodgy MOT on a car, knowing that you won't find out about any issues until 12 months later, by which time you have no recourse. I think most of them do it and they're helped by the unwitting customer actually wanting a full MOT on the vehicle.
The only person I trust to do everything right...is me. I buy private and expect to fix stuff - I've not bought a car which has ever really caused me to lose out and I've had knocking engines, whining gearboxes, ABS and traction control lights on at purchase. Although the Cayman is now using oil - I'll probably pull the engine before the summer to investigate.
Bought a car from Cinch (BMW 3 series 21 plate), car was great but it had just passed the MOT in the BCA centre (parent company that owns cinch and webuyanycar). Brakes were squeaky and worn down, I asked them to be checked to which cinch obliged and the local KwikFit advised new pads and discs all around (which Cinch footed the bill for). I've never trusted any MOT that has been done on a car whilst in the custody of a used car dealership, chances are they have a mate at the local garage who will do MOTs with no advisories.
just to remember when talking about pricing and adjusting for inflation etc etc. One must also consider how much overall purchasing power people currently have VERSUS in the past. Old school GTI's, people likely (don't quote me) weren't spending 50-70% of their income on rent or mortgage.
I have a '24 model and absolutely love it. Last year of the Quadrifoglio too. Might turn out to be a collector's edition??
Clearly a shady dealer and dubious MOT for sure but missing some of the things like bald tyres is more than a rookie mistake
Stunning vehicle. I test drove one recently and it blew my mind. Unfortunately, running costs made it just too expensive to justify. When I win the lottery, this is the first item on my shopping list!
was watching your vids afew years ago, had my 987.1 2.7, loved it, since then gone to a 981 2.7 boxster, and a year ago, 718 s in white, love it,,a quick car
7:00 Complete nonsense !!! The only link with Ferrari is the fact that Gianluca Pivetti who developed the engine at FCA (2016/7), worked at Ferrari in a previous life... that makes the engine not a Ferrari engine but an Alfa Romeo engine.... Both the Giulia and the Stelvio are made in the Stellantis factory in Cassino (I) known for producing various models of Alfa Romeo. Having that said.... I'm quite happy with my Misano Blu Stelvio Quadrifoglio I bought in 2018 .... with an Alfa Romeo engine .... ;-))
The key to this by sounds of it is not get a 3.4 s model! A gen2 2.9 sounds more like the one to have . However it sounds like you have been a tad unlucky
nice
Just like mine, Misano Blue 👍. Glad it’s on winter tyres! I put mine on very recently- Pirelli PZero Scorpion (AR specific!) a huge difference to the summer P Zero’s! She’s not quite 2 tons! I think 1750kg or thereabouts- actually very lights in the real scheme of things. I agree about the exhaust! Could be a bit louder from inside, sadly the really good ones are £3k and over!!
Yeah my Cayman S is on PS4s and can’t drive at sub 4 degrees. Wow ok, it’s not actually that heavy, think I got excited 🤣
Also, it way more exclusive than the Guilia- less than 600 on the UK roads according to the ‘how many left’ website, compared to near 2k Guilia Quads!
@ really! Wow! As if they are so rare!
Thought you would've preferred a Macan GTS
@ I thought I would. This car is way more engaging tho, Porsche is great however
Almost watched the video until that annoying song was heard.
Don't sleep on the Volvo V60 T6/T8 models. They come with 400+hp from the factory!
Good shout! I’ve looked at them recently. Great value and very quick!
To be fair, your resale value has gone up now that you've addressed the wear on the vehicle. Was the service history lacking? Seems like some stuff should have been known by the seller in advance of you buying it. I had a money pit 996 C4S. It was certainly a hard lesson. I ended up moving on to a 5 year old 997.2 S, bought from Porsche Centre and put about 60,000km on it trouble free. Sold if for just under what I paid, although if I sold it a few months later I'd have made money on it. Oh well, it was a fantastic car to own and drive and worth every penny.
And I own and drive a 981 Boxster S now. About 6 months after the 911 sold, I missed it.
That’s true! The service history to be fair was very good. Always at Porsche and used the recommended oil, never did many miles until I got it tho😝
I ❤ my DC5🔥🔥🔥
Amazing cars!
Oh, auto.
I had a GTI DSG... Got rid quickly as it was not as involving as a manual. If rather have a slower, manual than quicker auto
Yeah it some cars 100% I think the GTI is one of them. I have a Mk6 GTI in manual and always makes me smile
15 year old Vauxhall hot hatch!… unlikely to have had an easy life!
Yeah I mean that’s a fair comment. The issue here is the fact it’s being sold as really good example, MOT and service but it was anything but good.
By shite by twice
You haven't exposed the secrets of used car dealerships. You have exposed ONE dodgy dealer. Clickbait title. You cant tar a whole industry with the same brush. Title should be "BJH sells dodgy Astra". If things have "disappeared" from an MOT, check for receipts for the repair work being done. If there is no evidence, then walk away. You have made a video about your friend buying a car from a dodgy dealer without doing any due diligence.
Click bait title that says exposes secrets. Well it does so therefore not click bait. Didn’t say everyone does it but it’s a worrying issue that people need to be made aware of. Arguably you don’t and should need to be doing any sort of due diligence when buying from a business that’s been going years, competed an MOT and did some 40 checks on a car.
@@JoeTalksCars Your title still infers it is all used car dealers. You are only discussing one dealer.
Guess it does. But TH-cam is all about the all important click through.
Here in Northern Ireland the mot is not done by private garages but by the department for environment, a government agency, and they are very thorough, only problem is a tremendous backlog for booking your car in for its mot but it’s not open for the dodgy practices over on the mainland for the mot
Love the fact they do this! I mean I’ve said it should be like this here but I see it’s not perfect.
That is alarming, I think I would never buy a used car from a garage that does its own MOTs. But I always get a pre inspection myself when buying, and they have saved me more than once.
@@Jimages_uk it’s scary what goes on. Just glad I thought to share this. It should help a few people.
I love autos. Just gone from a Jaguar XF 4.2 v8 to a Cayman PDK. I think the Tiptronic gives a Porsche a different vibe. It seems to be more about relaxed speed than out and out performance driving.
Yeah definitely more relaxed but with the long gears you don’t need to shift that much.
Hi Joe. Great grown up road trip video. The Eifel is my second home, soon to be first when I return permanently to Germany from the UK.. I'd recommend the E40 to Liege, then E42 to Malmedy, and across the border at Losheimergraben. Faster route and fantastic roads. Also worth a trip is the 258 just east of Virneburg... check it out on maps... you'll see exactly what I mean.
Nice!! That’s amazing! I love the Nurburgring and not just the track, the whole area is lovely, visiting the Black Forest soon! The B500 is meant to be great
@JoeTalksCars Schwarzwald personally is over rated... but I'm biased towards Rhineland-Palatinate... there's a picturesque drive between Saarbrucken and Bodensee (Konstanz).
Cant lie. Im still tempted lol. Good video 👍
It’s worth the risk 🤣
You can mitigate the risk, get it properly inspected before you buy it. My first P car, I didn't and it too was a money pit.
Shit, music
Right ok
Ah should of gone down to have a look at the car and checked if things where fixed or not
Should have but I just think maybe a little step too far. The garage are not happy with what I did as it is 🤣
nothing but bad things about that garage 🤔🤔
@@cameronwestbury7604 I mean I’ve found some good reviews. But I have many that state bent MOTs on cars.
@ had bad luck with them ourselves, a few mates of mine has had the same 🤷♂️, i personally stay clear of the place
@ really? I mean I’m not surprised, can’t see how this can carry on. So glad the video had flown, need to get it out to more people to show what a shambles the place is.
@ i know, i saw alex from autoalex buy a mini cooper from them in worcester, not too long ago, god knows how that’s going 🤷♂️, hit or miss i suppose but most of the time is a bad example
@ no way! Wonder what experience he had? I imagine if it was bad we would know, the reach he has would do some damage. I think that’s what they need to learn really, too easy to make videos, post reviews and share bad experiences.
Mega video Joe! Don't back down keep it up 👍🏼
Thank you so much!
ALWAYS pay part of the invoice on a credit card.
Great idea!
Is this the S model?
It is:) 3.4
Its a 17 year old Vauxhall, anyone who thinks it'll be perfect wants their head testing. This video steps on the side of slander and clickbait.
Where’s the slander? It’s facts, the car should as a minimum be safe.
At what point did anyone say it should've been perfect? Do you honestly believe it's acceptable to sell a car with a clean MOT with a caliper binding so badly it was smoking and warped the disc? Acceptable to pick a car up and have the EML come on within 20 miles. With the handbrake fully applied the N/S could freely turn. That instantly says to me that it wasn't properly tested, nevermind all the rest of it. I wasn't looking for perfect, I was however looking for a car I didn't need to spend £1.5k on to get to a road legal condition.
@@JoeTalksCars Did you talk to the garage and ask if they could rectify the issues?
Never buy a vehicle from a certain demographic . NEVER EVER
I mean this was meant to be from a reputable family business
Did your friend not check out the companies reviews ? …..
He knows he should have. Hindsight:(
Keep up the good work we need more people like you
Thank you so much!
Great video mate. Love the documentary style - you should keep this up, channel will blow up!
Unfortunately happens a lot, I know so called Porsche specialist seller who is selling a Cayman that 100% has bore score and engine issues, he's had it a good while now, and even Stevie Wonder could see that the has mechanical issues, but he refuses to acknowledge and disclose it, and sadly someone will buy it thinking they bought their dream car, but instead bought a dud. I did call him out on it on FB - but he still hasn't disclosed it (and I've seen this car before hence I know the issues it has).
Awful!
@@JoeTalksCars Even after I called him out on FB - he still has it advertised without a mention of any engine problems or proof that its been fixed.
VTEC go brrrrr! Love it
Epic isn’t it!
@ so so epic! Truly jealous that you got to experience it. More Jap cars please Mr TalksCars
V tec go bbbbrrrrrraaaaaaaa🔥🔥🔥
I love this car especially in white, what a shame it can no longer be ordered in white.
I know! Mad isn’t it!
@JoeTalksCars Absolutely, one would think that as this is the final run for this superb car they would push the boat out a bit. Very sad.
But the problem is nobody bothers taking them to court. So if you buy a bad car and let them off, you're part of the problem. I saw what looked like a decent car for sale recently, sounded too good to be true. It looked mint, 7 years old but had apparently only done 6,000 miles. That sounded odd so I looked closer at the photos. It was clear that the leather driver's seat had been sat in for a lot more than 6,000 miles. So I started by doing a search for reviews of the company on google and sure enough there was a slew of bad reviews about the dealer. Sometimes that's all it takes. Be diligent and remember, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Try to get at least a 3 month warranty, then you can take it to a garage after you've bought it and get it checked over, even re-MOT it and if it fails you've got something on them in writing. Ideally get an AA or RAC inspection or take someone you know with you who knows a lot more about cars than you (but not your dad or best mate who think they're an expert). Don't touch it without a test drive - dodgy dealers don't like you test driving their cars so they'll try to put you off. I even avoid test drives "by appointment only" because cars with dodgy engines are often difficult to start or sound rough when cold so they warm then up first. But ideally just buy through a reputable dealer even if it means paying a bit more and saving up a bit longer. If you're desperate get a cheap runabout to tide you over, or just use the bloody bus for a few weeks.
Great advice! Yeah you are right, this may affect them temporarily but it’s just temporary. The business will continue but hopefully now be less tempted to put a bent MOT on
I would never buy from a dealer only a private sale were I can go to the house and speak face to face with the owner.
Does seem to be a good way to do it. Having said that, I know a lot of good garages and it seems a shame that some are willing to put you at risk and rip you off.
This must be an anomaly, I have bought a car from BJH and it’s been perfect and absolutely nothing wrong with it! I believe it is unfair to just put down a whole companies dealership to the fault of one car.
Then maybe they should of thought about that before putting it through a dodgy mot? To “miss” some advisories is one thing but to then go on and “miss” majors is an absolute disgrace!
@@Jess-f6f fake ahh account
Making a new account to reply to a comment isn’t very normal is it? Sadistic world we live in…
@ in actual fact I’ve never had a TH-cam account, only ever watched videos and never felt the need to make comments. But since I am Andy’s partner and would of been the one driving the car daily with our 8 year old in it, I felt the need to reply to the comment you made. I stand by my reply to you. A second hand car is all about the previous owner and how he/she treated the car. I always ask the original owner for a quick drive with them driving it first.....their driving style has alot to do with the general condition.
I agree but not when it’s from a garage, sold as “really really nice”
This isn't anything new it's been going on for years dodgy mots by the garage selling the car
By this particular garage? Seems this is practically their business model.
