When my child was little, I had a 997 and then a Lotus Evora, both with useable back seats and cool dad cars. Now that my kid is a teenager I can enjoy 2 seaters again and have a boxster and 4C.
Yep been there Joe, did exactly the same, when my son was very young and into adulthood he went everywhere with me in my performance cars, I even took him on test drives got him involved…..he is now the Motorsport expert for the performance brand he now works for……and your right its very rewarding to get the little one involved
987 is a good car. All you have to do is replace all the panels in carbon (including doors), rebuild and oversquare the engine, LSD install, replace the seats, put a cage in it, change the shift cables and shifter, and rebuild the entire suspension system. Oh yeah and remove the airbags...
The Cayman is equal to the dad car task, my Cayman takes my Brompton with ease with loads of space remaining. Life without a Cayman is hard to even imagine, definitely get a roof box and enjoy the BoxEngine’s unique flat six sound. 😊
I bought this car after my first kid and before my second. Both of them love to sit on my lap and start it in the morning and dream about driving. Occasionally I want a backseat for when the Model Y is busy, but it would pain me to sell it too much. Especially since you rebuilt your engine, you have a gem, keep it around if you can. There's always a sub $2500 Toyota Camry out there for if you really need a back seat. And exactly like you said man, the experiences we have in these cars right now is literally priceless, I want to keep it around for my kids just for that.
Fun video Joe! Definitely makes a good Dad car, I have 3 sons who are adults and they think it's a fun car. I'm actually going to buy a Macan S in 2025 so I can have my wife and my grandson in the car to experience that Porsche feeling together and pass down that to the next generation.
I had a 1972 Datsun 240Z and my daughter was born in 1976 and like you I made things workout. For a while I had to get a car with rear seats, I had a Trans Am and then A Fox Mustang in 1989. I still have the Mustang and got the (2010) Cayman S in the Fall of 2009. My daughter (Vanessa) still loves the cars I've had/have and she loves going places with me in them. I joked with her and said guess I'll get a minivan and she asked if I slipped and wacked my head on the ground; I laughed and said no, just kidding 😂😉.
I have an unused, passenger airbag deactivation kit and Isofix rail to be fitted into the seat. Just saying. Mine would have been ideal….but I’ve two kids.
Hi Joe Would it be possible to list your vlogging equipment and which editing software you are using please I’m seriously considering doing something similar with my cayman but not really sure where to start in terms of equipment
I probably missed it Joe, but did you switch off the passenger airbag? It’s too dangerous for a child under 12 to be sat in the front without the off switch for the airbag. That’s why my 7 year old son comes with me in my 997 but has to sit at the back. I know you can get a retro fit to disable the airbag, so worth looking into.
I believe the passenger seat has a weight sensor which disables the airbag when there isn't an adult weight on it. There's a light on the centre console to confirm that the airbag has been disabled.
@@rossbethell4187 and in costs a fortune to retrofit it I understand. OPC only and PIWIS coding. Perhaps Joe has found a way around it or his car has it already.
As another viewer mentioned, and I’m sure you are aware, for this seating position with a small child, the air bag must be disabled , otherwise there is injury risk, don’t think there is a switch for this in the Cayman ? Maybe remove fuse ?
@JoeTalksCars in the door? Can you say where exactly as I don't have it on my gen 2 but thought it was supposed to be on the side of the dash. Appreciate any help
@JoeTalksCars thanks mate. Yeah, I don't have it. Shame as I just gone through the exact same experience you have with my daughter, even the same seat, lol. The deactivation kit is no longer available so on the hunt for used which is rare I'm finding out. Enjoy the car with your daughter and keep up the videos 🙌🏼
I don’t agree with the sentiment that it’s a “dinosaur car” just yet and, despite the next Boxster and Cayman being EVs, Porsche doesn’t appear to think so either. The Taycan certainly isn’t the next step in the evolutionary ladder and, really, who cares whether the Macan and Cayenne are EVs? The “dinosaur” 911 still seems to have a pretty certain future. If that were to become an EV then the furore that was heard when it went from air/oil cooled engines to water cooling will be like a fart in the dark by comparison. 😊

Been having similar roof box thoughts…

Fit the airbag switch and passenger seat isofix kit. I had mine done for about £400 at a Porsche dealership, on my old 2009 gen2 Cayman.
What a great video make as many memories as possible 😁

Nice one Joe.
Great video!
A dad car on the cheap with the best options more like! If my dad did the same ❤

@@arthurmchanincorrect, not in the UK. You need the factory kit which has a switch and additional light that goes into the centre console.

@ yeah open the door and on the side of the dash 👍 most I’ve seen don’t have it. Not sure if this is aftermarket tho

Does anyone know the brand of the car seat?
In 2001 I had a 355 f1 my daughter was 3 and my missus was pregnant my three year old sat between her mums legs and we went to a car show...
Matt Armstrong put a roof box on his Lamborghini when he drove to Monte Carlo
Great video. Beautiful car. Don't sell it. Can't you put her in the boot. The wife not your daughter. 😂😂
Meanwhile I’m trying to justify a 7-seat E-class wagon for just me to commute back and forth to work in.🤔
😂
All great if you're a single dad, not so great when you can't fit partner and child in the car at once
Though I suppose some may find that a positive😂
Nah. Perfect school run car. It has isofix. I drop my son off to school in mine all the time.
