MetalCloak Skid Plate and Transmission Coolant Lines

If you have the MetalCloak skid plates on your Wrangler 4XE, this might be something you’ll want to check. The lines might be too close to one of the support arms for the front plate.

มุมมอง 2.5K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
A word of caution about the 95B recall. There might be people that post in forums that the 95B “caused” an issue. That shouldn’t be the case. Any issues that pop up after this recall were likely already present in the system but it couldn’t communicate it properly. Some people posted that 04B “caused” check engine lights. But that wasn’t the case. The issue was already present and the added sof...

I had my recall repair done yesterday and I am good to park inside as well as charging it again, yahoo. Now hopefully the petition will have some effect and Jeep will extend the warranties
Merry Christmas
Mine is in the shop because it won’t stay in electric mode and they claim they did the 95b recall and it passed. It’s not a solution, everyone is confused.
Best video on TH-cam--no unnecessary anything, just TCB-ing. Thanks for saving me hours of frustration and heartache.
Recall 95B available in the Netherlands since end of december 2024.
Thanks for the good info. No form issues here. I can still squeeze out 23..24 miles in electric doing around 40 mph stop and go traffic. Taking it in this Thursday for the 95B recall. Hope it fails so i can get a new battery.😊
FORM has been very annoying for the last few months. Leading me to believe that something is wrong with the jeep computer or sensors. Dealership claims everything is normal but I will be in form for a week, then out of it for two days or less, then back to form for a real long time. Killing the great fuel economy I was getting. Guess it's a winter thing we have to deal with
There are a LOT of variables that make it difficult to see the logic of it. Plus, I'm pretty convinced there are variables between vehicles. I have no explanation for it other than observations and lots of conversations with people.
I'm now even more confused. Since you've been driving without charging until just recently, how is it possible to enter FORM when the oil has been warmed every time you drove it? My 4xe races to FORM if I charge every time I have the option. My commute takes me right to the end of a charge while running the gas engine about 5 miles in the middle to climb a steep hill(the hill isn't 5 miles, but i run the engine that long to warm it up). I have no other way around it since I can't make the hill at 55-60 in full electric(without the gas kicking in) or if I could, my battery would be depleted about 4-5 miles short of my destination. My oil catch can is full of watery gas at 1000 miles and I enter FORM about once every two weeks during winter months. Oil level on the stick keeps rising so I chance my oil every 3000 miles so far. I was thinking about only charging 1 way on my commute, but now you are getting FORM when you drove for months without charging. This vehicle wasn't thought out properly. With the Direct Inject engine I mean.
It's the short engine runs. Especially during the cold. Driving around in city like traffic with a lot of short engine runs causes the FORM software to think the oil is diluted...which it may very well be.
The Jeeps sense themselves all the time so the vehilce is putting itself into fuel refresh mode because the vehicle is wanting you to run the gas engine. Like you said stagnant fuel
I believe this vehicle is designed to run the gas engine more than 50% of the travel time or less than 20 in town miles each trip. In that case I have a more efficient vehicle in my garage I can drive than this one.
@ lol 😂 you are not correct
In my case, that's not correct. The gas tank timer is 90 days. I wasn't charging it due to the recall so I was filling up every couple weeks.
My newest V6 no more FORM 😀
I watched one of your other videos and followed your recommendation and it eventually went out of FORM! Thanks for updating/educating us on all 4Xe info!
Thank you for the heads up. Do you always run yours in 4Hi Auto? I know that gives ya a bit more "umph".....
@@dbldare I go back and forth. No real rhyme or reason but I always put it in 4 hi auto when it’s wet or snowy.
I would buy it again. Mine was an early 2021 so it pretty much has had all of the recalls and issues. Once they were identified and corrected, our 4xe works great. The 2024's have the all of the fixes and firmware updates built right into them so that should reduce the changes you are going to have a major issue. Chris and this channel made my 4xe journey through all of the issues survivable. So make sure to visit often to get the heads up on new issues and hopefully more fun stuff.
I just got out of FORM yesterday for the 5th time this winter.
We just bought a 2024 Willys 4xe in Nov. and have < 2000 miles on it. I see you have 62858 miles on yours, any idiosyncrasies we should know about? Ours is not on any recall lists and so far we love it. Would you buy it again?
I’d buy it again. If you want to know the history of issues I’ve had, it’s been interesting. Bad ECH, bad coolant pump A twice. Had a leaky axle that had to be replaced. Got a new hybrid battery over the summer. A whole bunch of recalls along the way. But, I would still buy it again.
Get ready for a new transmission and recall batch notice. These have lots of problems. I turned my into the dealer and am going through a lemon law lawyer due to the recall.
@@Wrangler4XEFans Wow, that’s a lot and you would still buy it again. Were all the repairs covered under the warranty?
@@skydouglas996 Yes. Everything covered under warranty. I have documented everything on this channel if you have the time to look.
@@snootyfox.indahouse Fortunately, transmission issues haven’t been a trend.
Still 24 miles with 99% if it would not be in FORM
@@Monty4xe Yeah. At these temps, that’s pretty awesome. But, that’s just an estimate. If I actually get that range is a different story.
Hybrid is the vehicles default mode if anything is going on. Our ‘23 has never seen FORM, and has been in electric for most of its miles.
I just rented one and drove about 1100 miles... Averaged 14.75.... Never got to really use the battery... I figured the purely ice one would've done better.
14.75 seems pretty low. Were you calculating at the pump or going off the dash?
Seems like it would be a good idea to not put front grill inserts on the 4xe for air flow, hint your american flag insert, and maybe even run more open option front wheel well insert option just to keep things cooler. I would never buy a 4xe myself, but seems like that would help keeping it cool. Just my 10 cents.
@@brandontaylor1551 Haven’t had any issues with cooling in 3.5 years. What is heard in this video is common in all 4XEs regardless of the grill setup.
Why do you have one then?
@@Brandon-xp1ob It’s possible to both fully appreciate a vehicle while also expecting better of the manufacturer.
What to do if you think the dealership did not perform the drive test correctly or at all?
@@emperorzurg4707 To be honest, if the issue is present, you’ll get a check engine light soon just from daily driving.
There doesnt look to be a lot of space between the bracket and the oil filter either 🤔. Can that bracket come off without dropping the whole skid plate? If it can I'd mark the oil filter and the cooling line, remove the bracket and grind some grooves & put it back.
@@rwagner563 I had the same thought.
Great video! Did you notice any droop on the front end with the additional weight vs. the plastic bumper?
@@scottposner5487I didn’t notice any droop. But I do feel like it wandered a little less.
Mark it, remove and grind away a bit of clearance?
@@srobb68 I had that same thought.
Was that OEM with certain trims of the 4xe?
@@GoldenK9Campers No, I added it. It’s made by MetalCloak.
Mine looks like it might have more room than yours. But it could just be the angle. I do think there is some play in that bracket for it to possibly move forward before tightening it down.
@@MotterMayhem I need to take mine off sometime to get that nursert installed. I didn’t have it when Input mine on and I haven’t felt like taking it all apart to do it. But I’m going to play with it when I do it.
Mine is complete on my 2021 rubicon. Took three hours, Jeep was charged when I picked it up.
Have you rubbed/scraped with the skidplate ? I will be curious how well it does...
@@alwashburn3098 I did Killbuck Jeep Jam with it. I rubbed a tree and a rock. It’s a completely different experience. It just slides right across stuff instead of leaving you wondering how much that bad wheel placement is going to cost.
I have a 2024 Willys 4xe Wrangler Unlimited and has no recall (purchased in November 23) And I also Grand Cherokee 4xe 2022 with 21,000 miles and it does have a recall. I just looked on my Jeep app and just looked on Christmas Day and it says parts are available.

How are you here’s my situation. I just bought my 2021 Jeep Rubicon 4xe one month ago. it was certified preowned and everything has been going fine up until about three or four days ago that I got my first form message and since then I looked at some videos and I did the Whole driving for a little bit to get the oil temperature up to 190° or 200°.i let it idle for a little bit and afterwards I tried to click on electric mode and it wouldn’t allow me to and it stated that form was in progress. But what I noticed was that I turned off my jeep turn it back on, and I was able to go into electric mode. I drove it around for a little bit later on that day and again I couldn’t go into electric mode. I then stop turn the jeep off put it back on and I was able to go into electric mode. As far as the temperature outside in my city, it was about 20 to 25°. What should I do? Or should I just get n oil change or wait till spring time and see if things change?
@@phillyhank8726 What’s the temperature outside?

It took covert jeep in austin 9 days and two visits to correctly complete the 95b recall... Apparently they could not figure out how to complete the drive cycle until jeep gave them an "alternate" method. While they were in there the replaced coolant bypass becuase it was apparently going wrong. That was last week. Last night, electric mode was disabled and i got "electric mode unavailable cabing cooling or heating". That went on for 20 minutes and then hybrid started acting normal. Climate control was not on and it was 67 outside! I honestly dont know if im supposed to bring it back again after receiving that new letter or not. ...i hate my jeep and will never buy another jeep product.
I have to give a Shout out to Cortese Jeep, Dodge, Ram in Rochester NY. My 95B recall took 3 days to complete because of the very cold weather here in Rochester. When they were trying to get the proper engine temp for the test it was very difficult to do in 4 deg f. It finally warmed up to 30 degrees today and the test was completed without any problems. When I picked it up it was charged to 40% and had 15 additional miles on the odometer. They also gave me a nice loner vehicle. Best Jeep service center in Rochester NY!!
@@ricklombardo-cd3bs That’s dedication.
It was below zero this morning, and I got the "plug in vehicle to condition battery" message when I shut the vehicle off after driving for about 20 minutes. My recall work is scheduled for next week. The Jeep asks to be plugged in, but the recall says no...Fun little bit of irony.
First night I brought home the 4xe, I tried to use the level 1 charger and park in my normal spot out front of my house. No outlets, so ran a 100' 16ga extension cord from my little garage. Charger wouldn't even work. So I tried a 50' 14ga and 50' 12ga. Still wouldn't work. Started parking out back, but it is a pain. Was thinking about going to a 100' 12ga or 10ga, but will get a quote from an electrician to just add a receptacle out front.
@@treyveston7965 Get the shortest, highest gauge extension cord you can get. But an outlet is always best.
Called when I saw it ion the FB page. Their one computer said no, but she checked the other and it was there.Scheduled for 12/30!
