Building Arrows for the 2023 Deer Season: How Heavy is Heavy Enough?
มุมมอง 58610 หลายเดือนก่อน
For this deer season, I'm once again going with Black Eagle Carnivore arrows, cut at 30-inch length, with 100-grain brass inserts. That will bring my total arrow weight to 390 grains minus the broadhead. Depending on which broadhead I ultimately choose, that should put my total arrow weight at 490-540 grains, which I think is the perfect mix of weight and speed for consistent passthrus on white...

    It's not a legend! DUCK slips even on 9.5 mm rope that's under tension. It slipped to much that I could count. I still use it but whenever I want it to grip, I put a bit of pressure on the "beak" to bite the rope.

    Your tree tether should alway go to the ground in case you slip and cant get footing back and need to repel down. Suspension trauma happens if you hang with weight on the arteries in your legs for more than 7 minutes restricting the blood flow, YOU ARE DEAD. There is nothing anyone can do for you after they release the pressure and the dead blood in your legs enters your heart. I have suspension trauma devices on my hunting gear. It is a real thing everyone should know about. Most people's lineman's ropes or tether's can double as a device, you just have to know how to properly set it up.

    If using a two to three step aider on second stick and worried about kicking out, I recommend once you get to the second stick, go ahead and transition to your tether as though you’re one sticking. It’s a lot better than just the linesman’s rope

    Great info!!!! I’m a college student coming from Alaska. I do have one question for ya! Are there any rules on scouting before season? I live right next to Dixon memorial WMA and plan on chasing turkeys. But want to get familiar with the area and put in some footwork. Does this require sign in’s?! Thanks in advance!

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the late response. There are no rules against scouting before season. You just need a valid hunting or fishing license to be on the WMA. And yes, you will need to sign in for the turkey hunt. You can do that on the DNR's Outdoors Georgia app or online.

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the frame is easily removable. The seat is great with nice, thick memory foam. The magnets do a good job of holding the seat to the vest. If you're walking long distances, then the seat will sometimes drop down on you, but you can always clip it into place.

    Based on this video, I purchased two Flex G36 cameras (I already have a Reveal X and a bunch of other misc cameras). Both G36 cameras were complete garbage and neither camera ever worked for more than 2 days. I spent over a month troubleshooting both cameras and probably contacted support at least a dozen times. What would happen is I would get the G36 set up, make sure it was sending pics before I left the field, it would work for 1-2 days, and then stop communicating entirely. This happened over and over again with BOTH G36 cameras. Eventually Spypoint replaced both cameras, I returned both cameras, and bought another Reveal X. I would strongly, strongly recommend the Reveal X over the Flex G36. There is no comparison. The Reveal X is reliable, the settings allow you to get the camera to do EXACTLY what you want it to, and paying for the transmission plan is a pleasure relative to getting the Spypoint free plan that just causes endless headaches.

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mark, I'm sorry the Spypoint cameras you picked up were bad. Mine is still out and working properly, although I've recently had some lens fogging issues. But I do agree that the Tactacam is the better of the two, and it seems from the feedback I've gotten that A LOT of people have problems with Spypoint.

    • @markkroenke
      @markkroenke 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MobileDeerHunter Do your Spypoint cameras have multiple networks they can access? In my area there is only AT&T. With Reveal X I can fix the network to AT&T. I can’t do that with Spypoint and I suspect that is why they always go dead. They get stuck looking for a Verizon signal when there isn’t one.

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Flex G36s have both AT&T and Verizon sim cards built in. So the camera is supposed to choose the carrier with the strongest signal for any given area and use that. I have mine in an area that doesn't have the best signal, but it's still connecting and sending pics. I have no idea if it's sending via Verizon or AT&T, but if I had to guess, it's Verizon.

    • @markkroenke
      @markkroenke 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right they’re built in but you can’t select 1 network like you can with Reveal. My G36s could never hold onto the signal for more than a day or two even though the AT&T signal is super strong.

    One of the things I compare is the cost & features on the monthly plans. I just got another SpyPoint Flex-S (Solar) and it's 36 mpixel and has some other new features, such as an 'instant picture' request feature too. SpyPoint gives me 250 / pics per month for FREE, or $5=1,000 pics, or $8 = Unlimited... so for me, that's a huge savings over a dozen cameras. And great to be able to use them all in the off-season for $0 monthly cost and still get 250 free pics each.

  • @toddchamberlain6507
    @toddchamberlain6507 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A factor that you didn't compare is the plans & their costs. I've used both, and I do kinda agree that the Reveal has a slight edge in a few respects, BUT the SpyPoint has a FREE plan with 250 pics per month. that is great (at least for the offseason). With a Dozen cameras out there, SpyPoint has $0 = 250, $5 = 1,000, $8 = Unlimited and that's a huge savings for me (I'm admittedly a cheap bastard!)

    • @Erdanx0
      @Erdanx0 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats my take as well, I have only had one Tactacam and it gave up after 1 season, my spypoint 2 out of 5 gave out after less than a year (well one just sends photo continuously/bugged), but it seems to be as long as I dont disconnect them for a long time they seem to be able to last. I bought a link micro s with the solar panel integrated, its almost been a year and it is still running (its a low activity area/2-3 photo per day but its a great pass to know when mooses comes in). And I totally saw what he means - I had tons of false positive on spypoint and very few on tactacam - I am tempted to take back a tactacam for active area and spypoint in low active area.

    New to hunting WMA in GA. As for scouting a wma, is that open all year long? What is the common courtesy for other hunters? Is it acceptable to go in the day before and put up stands etc?

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Alex, Yes, you can scout WMAs all year, as long as you have a valid hunting or fishing license. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of WMA roads get closed outside of hunting season, so you may have to park at a gate and walk in further than you normally would. You can put your stand up the day before a hunt, but keep in mind if you get there the next morning and someone else has already setup where you have your stand, you'll need to back out and go somewhere else. Hanging a stand doesn't "reserve" a spot. Public land is always first come, first served, so I always try to get there early if I know there's going to be a crowd. Hope that helps! Brian Grossman

      You're definitely going to get some wind through the three see-through panels. The holes are fine, so it probably blocks some of it, but definitely not to the extent of a regular blind.
