  • In this video, we dive into how priority points (or preference points) work for Georgia's quota hunts. We look at how to accumulate them, how to use them, as well as some misconceptions of how they work - particularly when applying as a group.
    If you'd like to get an idea of how many priority points you need to draw a specific WMA or State Park deer hunt, check out these articles on our website:

    Great info! Thank you for the clarification on this. The point system in Oregon where I grew up was different. We had to pay for points and they would take all of your points if you drew a tag. You would also lose your points if you didn't apply for the series of points every year.

    Very good info here! I'd also suggest that hunting parents set up GA DNR accounts for their children as soon as they are born and start putting them in for "points only" in every hunting category. Unlike many states, accumulating priority points is free in GA, so there's no reason not to put in for them every year. Ultimately, these accumulated points will likely be very useful as these children grow into young adults and are looking for good hunts to go on each year.

      Great advice Jimmy. That's why my son now has 11-12 alligator preference points! I started him early.

      I appreciate the kind words Nelson. I scouted Flint River once, and it looked great, but i haven’t hunted it yet. Good luck this season!

    What are the percentage odds for lottery draw for dove hunts?

    If everyone uses more points than needed and expects to get back their extra points. then the number needed to draw could be artificially inflated. In this scenario everyone is waisting extra points.

      That's true, and I hadn't thought of it from that angle. It's a potential risk, but I doubt enough people have that many extra points to wager for one particular hunt for it to have an actual impact. As an individual, if I really want to draw a hunt, I'm going to put in more points than I think is needed to get drawn to make sure I get it. If I get some back, that's great. If not, that's okay too.

    If I apply and get drawn for a quota hunt as an individual, can another licensed hunter join me. For example if the hunt allows for me to take two deer, we could then each harvest one deer. Correct?

    • @MobileDeerHunter
      @MobileDeerHunter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. Only hunters who applied and were drawn for a hunt can participate.

    Maybe i missed it but lets say I wager 3 points on a hunt, but I dont get drawn at all. Do I just lose those points? Thats half the reason I don't wager points because I don't want to lose them if not drawn

      if you dont get drawn you dont lose any points and youll gain another point for next year
