When I thru hiked the PCT in 2010. Belden Town had a music festival. It is a very cool community. Also if you can make Cascade Locks by August 16th weekend. PCT Trail Days is that weekend. It is a huge gathering for 2024 Thru Hikers, past Thru Hikers, and future Hikers. Free camping for 2024 Thru Hikers. I’ll be there Friday and Saturday. Enjoy your hike.

PCTers : please keep a continual eye on fire status and try to maintain a plan B for evac, if needed. Temps are going WAY UP to record levels and likewise the risk.

Hang in there. You will get thru the Password hell. I lost my phone last year backpacking jumping over a creek at Sawmill pass in the Sierras. Had to go back to Boy Scout days. I always carry a paper map. Lost my pics from the first day. Take care and happy trails.

Just had a fire/evacuation in the area where I live on Sat. West slope of the Sierra just down the hill from Donner/rt 80. We sure do appreciate the old and new fire aircraft that swooped in and protected us.

Ahh the tunnel under 80! Wow can’t believe that thing is dry already. A mere month or so ago it was full of snow and water. How were the skeeters in that area?

The free Strava app can get you unlost anywhere, and in the absence of cell signal or data on your phone. It just uses GPS signal and shows trail names. Good to see Marg feeling better!

So, you didn't get to go up Half Dome. IMO your consolation prize of Clouds Rest was a better option than Half Dome. You get to look down on Half Dome with a great view of Mt. Watkins and many more as well. That was one heck of a day that you put in.

There's a much nicer off-trail route with better views than Island Pass from 1000 Island Lake that takes you to Lower Davis Lake. I really don't understand why they routed the trail the way they did. You guys ought to come back in the summer when the Sierra is more beautiful and much easier to travel through. And, you can fish for Golden, Rainbow, and Lahontan Cut Throat (if you know where to go) Trout. You are absolutely right that you want to go through the Sierra while there is still good snow cover and it's refreezing at night or after most of it has melted. In between is not a good time to travel.

I'm so glad to hear that Marg is recovering; there are a few things that suck more than being sick and stuck out in the woods, but that list is pretty short. I wasn't sure if I were more concerned about Marg being so sick or about Zoo holding that 40-oz Hurricane "malt liquor" bottle 😁. I pray you eased back into being on the trail, Marg...Happy Trails
