THINGS TO KNOW - Before Buying a Porsche 928
Technically ford introduced OBD2 on the 94-95 V6 models ahead of the 1996 debut for the entire industry. 94-95 V8 cars were still EEC-IV.
Id really like to buy a Jaguar, but cant risk my wife finding out my little secret.
Man! Your wife would love it!! 💯👊👊
Absolute robbery is what it is
Definitely depends if you’re on the buying side, or selling side. Thanks for watching 👊👊
I love your videos. Thanks to them I’ve decided to bought my second 928 after a long break, the 928GT. The car had the engine mounts replaced 4 years ago by the previous owner (I have an invoice for this - 2 mounts for 660 euro), but the car vibrates a lot at the idle. Why? I have a mod of RMB and X-pipe (briliant mod!!), could it be because of that? Ot maybe they just installed volvo mounts (I red somewhere that they are shorter) or it was just done wrong? What do you think Master ;)
That’s a fun beast right there!! 🔥🔥 If $660 includes the labor, then for sure it’s got aftermarket ones. If it’s just the mounts, that’s about the cost + labor. The X-pipe will add the most vibration, does it still have the secondary mufflers? Or is it completely open exhaust? Check the muffler hangers, they should be rubber only.. One thing that the 928 is very sensitive towards is the insulation inside, under the mats. If it’s missing, the car will feel terrible. Make sure this dampening material is installed (front, back, hatch area), it’s even thicker on the 1990+ years. Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
@ oh yes, it’s a beast and it’s sounds like a beast :) This is how this cars should sound! This cost was only for parts (in 2020) , labor was a different story, because it was a huge service. That's why I'm surprised that the car vibrates. The engine, when I move the throttle, moves quite noticeably relative to the body so the mounts are working.
If they used factory parts, it’s a well serviced car. Next step is to mount it on a lift and check the exhaust for rubbing. That’s the same setup I had on my 928GT, I even had solid transmission mounts. It should be very smooth
Anything between 1995-1998 just look like shit and they were embarrassingly slow at the time.
It beat most of its competitors at the time..in its price range. Only the z28 & Firebird was faster…till the Cobra (it also outsold them) Thanks for watching! 👊👊
The suit is terrible Clark. It’s as bad as the original version of sonic before fans made them change it
Thanks for watching
Genial lHernan!! Pude localizar los bujes de direccion de Aluminio en Garaje de Loods aqui en Europa. Muchisimas gracias!! Seguire vuestros consejos para seguir mejorando el 928.

Thanks for watching! 👊👊
Another awesome video as usual 👍
Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
I wouldn't say the easiest....the 944/968 is half a 928....which is an over engineered nightmare. And you're not changing the timing belt yourself, only "checking", don't be mislead Truth about the odometer gear.. That's why it's hard to believe mileage as you said
Yess the odometer, explains why so many have under 20k miles
they should made a new type3/karmann/997 with a trunk over the engine :D
It’s way better idea than making 911s all electric!
@@HernanSpeed
I replaced my worn out steerinig bushings with Delrin ones and they make the car steer like new again! Also - I have an early 86 so I replaced the Cat with an X pipe and the sound is way better! But not replacing the pumpkin muffler with an RMB since it is loud enough with a nice growl. Keep up the great 928 content!
Yesss! The Delrin bushings are also a great upgrade over the factory rubber ones! Sounds like you’ve got your Porsche 928 dialed in! 🔥🔥 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
@@HernanSpeed I've had it for 28 years! And yes... it's a 5 speed with a short shifter, S300 Porken chips with higher pressure FPR, with 121k miles. Still pulls like a freight train to redline and stops and turns on a dime!

The 1993 lincoln mark 8 started it all
You know it!! Thanks for watching! 👊👊
Just be aware the RMB is a great update but the downside is increased drone sounds at highway cruising, at least this the case on the 32v cars.
Yes, it’s definitely louder and aggressive. It’s still less noisy than modern V8’s like AMG’s or Corvette’s. The best option would be an electric cutoffs just before the final muffler, to switch it on/off. Thanks for watching! 👊👊
@@HernanSpeed yes, you can actually use a vacuum actuated exhaust valve. I have this solution on my exhaust. The valve is partially closed when there is high manifold vacuum (idle and cruise) and then the valve opens fully under high load (accelerations and WOT) simple and effective.
Yess! That would be even better! 💯💯
I had a 2001 bullitt in my early 20's and I just recently bought a 2003 Mach 1 that needs light resto. Love these new edges, the Mach 1 especially, they're tough to get max power without extensive engine upgrades, but they are fantastic cruisers
The engine sound on the Mach 1’s are also incredible! 💯🚀🚀
I'm just wondering how much these parts cost and what the labor cost is for each modification or hours I mean. I can calculate the hours with my mechanic when I buy my Porsche 928.
For the motor mounts, you have two options: oem or aftermarket. Many people put in Volvo motor mounts without issues, cost is about $150. The labor is the biggest expense. For an experienced tech with air tools, about 10-12 hrs…more if it’s his first time. Make sure that your mechanic knows 928s before servicing Thanks for watching! 👊👊
Awesome video! Pretty much all of that info was valuable. I’m about to get some gears for my 99 cobra and really been on the edge about 4.10 gears or 4.30. I think 4.10 is definitely going to be the sweet spot for me.
It’ll transform that snake!! 🐍 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
I’m on my 5th Mustang, 2001 New Edge GT 55 000kms (33000 miles)
That’s Brand New! 🔥🔥 Never sell this one! Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Thanks for posting your real life experiences with the 928. I was looking for reviews on the Speed Mount. My collapsed engine mounts on my S4 don't bother me. Are there any consequences for not replacing my engine mounts? Perhaps the Speed Mount might buy me some time. I figured I would change them when my steering rack and oil pan needs service.
If you’re motor mounts are shot, give the Speedmount a try!! The driving experience will be elevated… Go for it man, it’s worth it. No consequences from my experience, just smoothness that makes the 928 more enjoyable! Thanks for watching! 👊👊

I had 2 of the 80's Camaros. I had a 1984 Z28, that had the 305 HO Motor, and I had a 1989 IROC-Z, With the 5.7 TPI, 350 motor in it. Both cars were far better than the POS Mustangs, out classed, and would beat the Mustangs too. Unfortunately, I got rid of them are long time ago. I really miss them, and wish I had them back. However, i upgraded to a 2017 Corvette Stingray Z51, and absolutely love it!!!

Hey Herman thanks for another great video, I love the way you edit. Regarding the rubber on the engine can you give me some advice on what thickness and strength you’d recommend. Cheers from New Zealand.
The best material is actually thin rubber pads used to isolate heavy machinery. A few thin 5-7 mm pads sandwiched in will work great. After engine is lifted, stack them in little by little. Important: get a strong light so you can see everything! Thanks for watching watching brother! 👊👊

More 928 tips coming soon! Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
How big of a job is it to actually replace the motor mounts?
It depends. An experienced master tech with air tools can do it in about 10hrs. If done at home for the first time, it will be many times that. While in there, it’s a good idea to do the pan gasket and check for leaks everywhere. It’s one of the bigger jobs. Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Where have you been, l have been making and selling polyurethane top mount rebuild kit for these since 2021, fixes the mount issue for good, tried and tested on hundreds of cars across the globe.

Which is the better car? 84 C4 or an 84 Porsche 928?
Very different cars and prices ranges. They aren’t really comparable. A minty 84 928 is about $50k, and a minty 84 C4 is about $5-7k. I would say that the C4 is more of a fun weekend toy, and the 928 is more of a pure engineering masterpiece. I love both, but for different reasons Thanks for watching! 👊👊
Thanks for the response!!! I own a 1984 928S with the manual and love it…Never owned a C4 but always felt it was great…Love your coverage of the 928 as not many understand it’s value..Keep up the great work!!!

I’m torn between buying a 911 997 and a 928 S4. I know your brother is more of a 911 fan. Herman which would you purchase between the two? I think I know your answer, but I wanted to double check, 🤔
You must go drive them! One of them will speak to you! I can tell you one thing that’s for sure, there are more ‘mint’ 997s for sale VS 928s. Condition is a huge factor when buying a Porsche 💯 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
