    I remember a diner owner not far from my high school, who daily drove a 928s. Years later after graduating high school, I would still see him in the car. That speaks for itself in terms the 928's reliability.

    The inherent build quality on these cars like you said made us want to seek the best example out there that was for sale. That initial extra investment up front paid off. I bought an '89 GT a few years ago. 1 owner, seemed like he parked it for me to buy 30 years after he bought it. Had 16 thousand miles on it, now 24. I put $18 thousand (cost me $90 thousand) in service. Mint condition, kick ass - drive it a couple of times a week. Phenomenal car. Oddly enough it is a tiny car. Next to a Panamera it's small (Panamera was the rumored new 928 before it came out).

    I confirm everything you said. I bought a work in progress and a parts car and for the past year I’ve been combining them both. The manual is almost finished, but I swear I spent 50 grand on a car that’s worth less than 25k … Hopefully soon I’ll be shifting gears.

    Your video's on the 928 actually convinced me to go out, hunt for the right one and buy it. THAT is EXACTLY what just took place! I want to THANK YOU for the excellent and 'NO B.S. ' approach to the elements of this car in so many directions that you have covered. I now own a red 928s 1986 year w/ get this... just 36k miles on it- looks and runs brand new and had meticulous previous owners... just like you told me to do! Spent the $. LOL. So... I was just wondering since I am also located in S. Florida (Boca) can you recommend a shop familiar with working on this car who have such experience? Best to you... -Paul.

      @@HernanSpeed Hi again! Well I took your advice and brought my 928 to Vertex and Wayne took care of the car for me. Needed a new AC compressor! Anyway, My 928 came with modern 18" Turbo 911 rims which I feel is out of the period the car came from and inappropriate. So I wanna get the Phone Dial 15" rims now. I am looking around and I see the 7x15 rims with an offset of 52.3 - Can you tell me if this offset with the standard tires of the day 215/60x15" will be OK on the 928 without any issues? I believe I have seen that the offset from factory is 63 not 52.3. Pretty close but I was hoping to hear from you as you are the Maven on the car. Any other larger tires I could go to safely if I want? Open to what ever you suggest... THANKS!!!!!!- Paul.

      Is your 928 an early 1986, or a 1986.5 (big brakes)? If it’s a 86.5, it’s going to need 16” wheels to comfortably clear the bigger brakes.

    I have two. A Black on Black and Pearl white , both manual . Everything he said is accurate. Although most cars that sit have issues. Unfortunate that the parts for these cars keep going up. There is a dedicated community of owners that are determined to keeping these on the road. Recently a 928 pulled up in my drive, it was an Uncle of my neighbor. He was 90 and had owned his 928 since it was new. Drives it everyday. He wanted to see if I new of any reasonable shops around that could perform the necessary Timing belt maintenance that is supposed to occur every 5000 miles on the 32valve versions of the interference engine . (The stock US 4.5 L 16 valve versions do not have this critical maintenance issue.) Lets just say he was way past the mark. There were a couple places within 100 miles and one in the area that is so so depending on what you want done. Example: if you change the belt and the tensioner only, you could get by under 1000.00. If you have to get some WYAIT stuff taken care of, i.e. water pump, tensioner rebuild, replace aluminum cam gears, oil pump, PS pump front main seal ,oil change radiator flush , oil pan gasket etc.. you looking at 7K or more . I had to learn to do my own work and the community is fantastic, otherwise it would be cost prohibitive in my financial situation to own one. Even if the cars were maintained , things break. i.e the plastic odometer gears on both mine are out. The part cost for the little plastic gear is 53.00, but its about a days work for a reasonable DIYer to pull the pod and replace. When I take them out for a spin, people think they are a new model that Porsche is selling. Lots of head turns and nice car comments. The faster you go the tighter the cars feels. When that V8 is rumbling every kid in the neighborhood points and smiles. Damn, now I have to go stare at my 928's for a while, then go for a ride.....

I owned it long time and it is low 50k miles w all the maintenance etc but lately i have and issue when the car is running it shuts off all of a sudden after 15 min once the engine is at normal temp and afyer i can still starts than takes 1 min 20 sec and shuts down again? I took it to my porsche guy 3 times still couldn't fix it. Do u know what can it be?

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sounds like fuel pressure, or an air leak. Always start with fuel: If it’s not maintaining fuel pressure, this will happen. There is a ‘Check valve’ located on the pump, this keeps the system pressurized….it often goes bad.

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I understand the confusion. Most aircooled 911’s will need a rebuild by 150k miles, the valve guides will be the first thing to go ($20K++ avg rebuild ). The Porsche 928’s engine will not need a rebuild till at least 350k+ miles.

The 928 is the most expensive car I know in terms of service and would ruin anyone with a normal income." Mmmm I only know one Porsche that is easy to maintain: Porsche 924 with 2 liter Audi engine. For someone who have enough time and do not calculate it maybe makes sence. But here in Europe it is really not a good idea to drive that car. And we can not do everything by ourselve for to make it correct. For instance: In the 80th it costs about 500 bugs to get the paintshop done by a professional paint job company. These days you have to pay 8000! If you are busy and need to go to a origin Porsche garage, it will cost you 240 bugs per hour.. In addition the craftsmen are going worser and worser... Even in Porsche workshop. But I agree, that car is a dream!

    You are wrong!!! I drive my 91 GT like I stole it, and I have spent $87,000 since I purchased it in 1998. It is a pain in the ass!!!! it is literally going to drive me to bankruptcy… I just can’t sell it….

    That stuff will happen with any car that is out in storage. Another thing, stop with all of the "drive it like you stole it" rhetoric!

      Most people don’t cross shop these two, even though both are Porsche’s. The 928 is a special beast! 👊👊
