Agreed ! What ever you do don’t engine swap or modify in any way. You’ll lose a lot of money if you do…as I found out the hard way years ago when I attempted that on one I had. Sold it for a big loss on my “investment” I put into it. Only thing I’d recommend to add if you have to is a quality experience stainless steel T-304 Exhaust system to open up its breathing a little. They look better also but that’s it! Maybe remove the cat also. So true about finding parts. I must have spent 10’s of thousands of dollars on N.O.S new parts.
I just bought one for 1700. Interior is emaculante needs a bit of engine work but all in all I think it was a good buy. I am a 56 year old female my plan is to bring it back with it's full glory with a little help from a friend. So excited.
@@HernanSpeed my dad has a 1992 iroc z28 he bought it I while ago and he bought it as a pandemic car or a fun project car cause he never had an American car or muscle car ever in his life my grandpa did have a 1971 Camaro z28 but he sold it and he bought from an ex military guy he couldn't take care of it anymore so he sold it to my dad for about 1,200 dollars a while back and it's a hard top and at least here in puerto rico the hard tops are extremely rare but I dont know about that in United states tho plus when he bought the car theres was a big spider in the dashboard and the gas tank so he named it arachnis or arachnid and I hope that he keeps that car for as long as he lives
I'm around these 3rd gen f-bodys quite often, I see people changing parts when they shouldn't. When these cars came out there wasn't anything better looking on the road, i say leave them be or you'll never get the experience of what these cars were like when new. The nicest 3rd gens are the ones that aren't modified.
@@HernanSpeed I'm ok with changing stuff, when it comes to modifying a classic car sometimes people go a little overboard and many times it's for the wrong reasons. Sometimes people do things to their cars just because they can, for example let's use a bone stock 1967 Chevelle SS 396. Unfortunately, I've seen someone install a Dakota digital dash, fuel injection or rear disc brakes. I think that kind of stuff takes away from the car, Sometimes it's better to just leave it alone. Here's another example, I have a few old Schwinn Stingrays muscle bikes. They're heavy bikes for today's standards, I could probably make them lighter by throwing some newer aluminum parts at them or I could put a digital speedo on in place of the mechanical one to make it more modern. You get what I'm saying.
@@HernanSpeedThis is only my opinion, let's use a 3rd gen. I have one now and I've had a bunch of them over the years, Z28's and T/As. I changed the radio & exhaust on everyone of them, driving on the highway with the T-tops out and a stock Delco don't really mix. I could barely hear the radio, I like music too much. I did that and even a little more to the car I have now, I updated the suspension with some pretty decent stuff. Even so the car still looks very stock, it just drives and sounds better.
I bought a brand new 1987 IROC-Z in March 1987. Black, silver trim, every available option, TTops, 5 speed, 305. I drove the tires off of it twice. SOOOOO much fun!!! A set of those tires was about $1200 back then too. Finally sold it in 1994 after it started shedding expensive parts (like the $500 MAF sensor) etc. Great car, great times.
That’s what I’m talkin about! 🙌🙌 Great story man! Those 305’s with the manuals are the winning combination, PURE FUNNN! 💯🚀🚀 Robzilla60 thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
During that time no other car looked better, maybe the GTA that's it. When the 3rd gen ended I had a black 91 Formula Firebird. I wound up snagging a 93 Z28, I did like the change because in some ways things got better, I wasn't losing to Mustangs anymore. Nowadays I'm back to owning a 84 Z28 H.O, I think they call it full circle.
Man loved seeing your take on the 3rd Gen F- Body. You are very correct. 10 years ago I would see the occasional tired one driving around. But now you never see them anymore. I went to Sweden then saw more 80’s cars like F-Bodies driving around on the perfect roads they have like you said they are great at cornering! Which is why I have 3 Mint like new low milage 82’ Trans Am’s all black. Love them ! In addition a 92’ Firebird convertible. There is a difference in the structural rigidity just like you said. More comfortable and less shake. I never saw that much a difference in going with a Camaro so just built up my Firebird collection. Literally everyone stares when I drive them and loves them! Also have a 77’ Bandit T/A. Can’t believe you had a Yellow IROC-Z Camaro - for free! You were crazy to sell it. Now please do the Trans Am video 🙏🏻 and please include your wife. She added a lot of fun to the videos also: ) not many you tubers do and think they should include the wife / GF adds some female perspective too on the cars we love:) Merry Christmas 🎄
Sounds like you’ve got an INCREDIBLE collection, those Trans Am’s are 🚀🚀🚀. I remember playing with my Hot-wheel Camaro inside my dad’s real life Hot-wheel. Biggest mistake was selling, especially after he passed. One day I’ll find it again! 👊💯 A TA video sounds like a great idea!💡 Jason Knight thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed yes 🙏🏻 Thank you. It wasn’t easy to find them. Took 25 years ! All are Black and Gold apart from the Teal 92’. One is the Recaro Edition 82’ T/A. Factory seats from Recaro. Cornering is 🔥 Wow that’s what you remember all right from childhood. For me it was with Knight Rider cars. My dad had a Silver 77’ T/A red interior, so had to have a bandit from Smokey and the Bandit. I have made one of mine to look like the T/A from the Bandit 3 movie also filmed in Miami. These cars were so cool in pop culture Don Johnson drove a white Camaro IROC on the pilot of Miami Vice and Tubbs the 82’ Black T/A and to me it was the height of cool because it was on Vice. Couldn’t believe how much torque an Camaro IROC-Z had when I put it in Drive. It chirped the wheels right away 🤷🏼♂️ wow it must have had some souped up 5.7 I thought back then in 99’ when I first drove one in red. Was seriously impressed with the IROC-Z back then. You got me hooked on the 928 though! I love mine. Appreciate your videos man! Thank you for all you do:) if you can’t find your dad’s just buy a yellow one but better with low mileage! What you remember from back then will be even more better now with a perfect example :)
You’ve got good taste! 👊💯 Those Trans Am’s are sooo cool, most of the nice ones are locked away in private collection’s. Trans Am Specialties here in Miami, they sell Firebirds to high-end collectors all over the world 🌎
@@HernanSpeed appreciate that buddy! So do you. It’s alot easier to find perfect example’s of high end cars than these lower cost examples when they were new than Porsche or Ferrari. It’s almost impossible like you said. Most are trashed or gone. That’s what has made these cars go up in value so much lately. Besides people like us remembering how cool they were back when we were kids but couldn’t afford them. Most are exported that are nice. That’s why there is more In Europe now left than are in the states. It’s sad. But yes I’ll have to check that place out in person! Thanks 🙏🏻 Let me tell you what they ask for them is on point. Good luck finding nice or great examples these days.
I had one, ordered it new in February '85 came in July '85. I traded in my '84 Z28 5.0 H.O., 5 speed, 4 wheel disc, posi. The IROC was a 5.0 Tuned Port, 4 speed auto (only Trans you could get with TPI, 4 wheel disc and a posi. The difference between the two was notable. Quicker throttle response and tighter handling for sure.
Yesss, this is Correct! 💯💯 That’s exactly what Motor Trend said back in the day, the Tuned Port engine feels ALOT stronger….more than the numbers suggest! 🔥🚀🚀 Sounds like you got a great one back in 80’s! 🙌🙌 Vern Hoke thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
The 3rd gen Camaro’s are incredible cars! 👊💯💯 It’s great seeing more companies making new restoration parts, they’re worth it 🙌🙌 Kelly Hopkins thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed 3rd generation Camaros are indeed 100% worth the time and effort. Our '89 IROC Z 5.7 with 133k is in great condition. It's an everyday driver car (except during snow). Proper maintenance, storage, and TLC have kept it driving strong (and fun!)
This brings back memories. I grew up in Miami back in the late 70s and early 80s. In 1991 I bought an '87 IROC with the 5.7. I loved that car and had tons of fun driving around Miami in the IROC. I remember cruising down the Grove in that car with the T-Tops off listening to a cassette of a Power 96 (radio station in Miami during that time) mix tape. The car was stolen from my parents house in Hialeah sometime in 92. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Couldn't agree with you more. An unmolested IROC is a true American muscle car. I have a 1988 IROC that is unmolested. Had it for over 15 years now and wherever I go, no matter who it is an old lady an old man a young kid they always are impressed with the car. All total I've had four IROC;s including the original 1985 model. I have also owned many corvettes including a ZR1. But my IROC's were always my favorites. I refer to it as an estate car. As I will never sell it, so my daughters will inherit it when I pass.
I just bought an all black 89 RS with the 305 TBI with 37k miles (legit) for $5k. Mind you it needs some cosmetic work but everything mechanically is damn near mint. So happy I got it. Can’t wait to make it how I want it.
Had an 85 IROC. Good looking car, rode like a tank and overall just slow stock. Had some issue with my 305. Would wipe cams about every 2 years. Had it from Jan. 1986 (New), wiped the first cam at 26k miles, second one at 44k miles. Traded it off for 1990 300ZX Turbo. That thing scatted and 0 issues with it to 28k miles when it was stolen, stripped and torched...
I’ve never heard of an 1985 IROC with a 5.7 🤔, must have had a swapped engine. -that could’ve been the issue. Those 90’s 300ZX’s are some of my favorite old school turbo cars! I used to love them back in the day, but I couldn’t afford to get one in high school…especially the turbo version 🚀🚀🚀 Thanks for watching man! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed Ahhh you are correct. It was a 305. Been a while lol. Changed it my post, thanks for pointing it out. The 300ZX was awesome. Turns out the only big issue with Nissan of that era was you could easily break into them and start them with a finger nail file lol.
The 80's sporty cars (pony cars) Camaro Z-28 / IROC-Z, Pontiac Firebird Trans am, Ford Mustang and Dodge Daytona Shelby Z's were all classic designs that have aged well. They all still look good. They had very good performance for their vintage as well, they were fun cars to drive and you didn't need a mega high income to buy any of them.😎👍
Love the Iroc Z. Had a clean 1987 5.7 TPI original with a fresh paint job. Unfortunately I sold it and bought a B body. I tried to get it back but couldn't so I bought another one not as clean as the one I sold but will have it close as nice as I had my other one.
Man…tell me about it, I know the feeling of selling and regretting it. The good thing is that more parts are being made for these Iroc’s every month! And sometimes, the restorations are part of the fun 🙌💯 You’ll have it nice in no time! 👊👊 Chilly Willy thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
12 years ago I found my one owner 84 Z28 L69, the first owner had it under coated with something they used in the 80s called Rusty Jones, i have the original paperwork, living on the East coast it did help a lot because there's no rust on my car. This stuff was all over the place, I've actually been taking a lot of it off because I don't drive it in the snow anyway. The good part is underneath it all is factory original paint in great condition.
Great video! I see my pics made it in. @4:36 was shot Dec '86 at John Smith Chevrolet in Smyrna, GA. And @ 4:40 that pic was taken Apr '89 at Pope Chevrolet in Roswell, GA where I worked.
This was an absolutely perfect video dude. I'm a Firebird guy and will watch your Bird one next, but it really brings my heart a lot of joy to hear you describe the reality and truth about the value and rarity of these beautiful third gens!
Bro, Foxbody’s are incredible! 💯👊 Recently sold a red 1993 GT convertible, it wasn’t fast….but my kids loved it. My brother currently has 2 notch back Foxbody’s, he’s loves them. Hopefully I’ll do a video on it soon!! 🙌🙌 lsaito27 thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
Currently restoring a 92 Vert. Just sold my 91 completely restored. I’m a Cuban/Japanese with tons of family living in Miami. They love Mustangs also..
Sounds like a fun project! 💯💯 Ever since I saw that triple black Foxbody in Aerosmith’s ‘Crazy’ music video.…I knew verts it for me. Yeap, Stangs are so Miami!💥💥
Great job! 👍 you made a wonderful video 😁 I'm bringing home my dream blue Camaro z28 from 1992 soon 💙 I can't wait for it!!! Let's star the new year with a blast ✨️🎉😄
Th Ultimate Z28! 👊💯💯 Sounds like your gonna have a great year! Take good care off it, those are rare! 💪💪 TheVampirrr thanks for watching! 🔥🔥 Happy New Years! 💥🍾👊
Ok, even the former Mustang-guy in me is now turning his head towards these IROCs. Honestly - how reliable are these cars with the auto transmission? I'm plumb curious - as well as the best year to get on the IROC.
Yesss, then IROC’s are starting to look pretty good! 🙌🙌 They’re just a reliable as Mustangs, easy maintenance too. The main thing is to stay away from sh**tbox’s, only look at the pristine ones! 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
When I bought my '88 IROC (LB9, 5spd, manual, t-tops) in 1988, I looked at the Corvette but couldn't justify the increase in price. I thought about installing a Paxton suptercharger, but resisted the urge. It was fun to drive, then and it's still fun after 36yrs of driving it. Still essentially stock.
What’s crazy is that your ‘88 Iroc is now worth more than the Corvette 💯. Take good care of it! Not many left in original condition! 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
I only had a 84 Firebird S/E 2.8V6 in high school ( I was great full for it but my heart was absolutely set on an IROC-Z ) - my buddy got a yellow 85 IROC L-69 H.O. 5-spd with a L/S 3.73 gear. It wasn’t an ultimate hot rod but it sure was fun to drive ! That car was awesome! Watching this video made me think of all the F-Body’s that were driven to my high school while I was there: 83 Z28 5-spd w/3.73 original LG4 but swapped out for a very healthy 355 ( his dad owned a local speed shop ). 85 IROC L69 5-spd 3.73 83 T/A LU5 Cross-Fire 85 T/A LG4 5-spd 3.73 86 Firebird 2.8 5-spd 84 Firebird 2.8 88 Camaro RS 5.0 5-spd 89 IROC conv. 5.0 3.08 82 Z28 LU5 Crossfire 84 T/A LG4 5-spd 3.73 86 Camaro LG4 3.42 87 FORMULA 5.0 TBI 89 Camaro RS 5.0 TBI 82 Z28 LG4 84 Firebird S/E 2.8 82 Camaro 2.5 ( so sad ) 83 Z28 LU5 It was a fine time to be a teenager all through the 3RD GEN years!
Great video! I have a '92 Z28 with the 25th anniversary package. Black with red stripes and red accents on the wheels, 30k miles. 5.7 L98. It turns a lot of heads when I take it out.
I had 2 of the 80's Camaros. I had a 1984 Z28, that had the 305 HO Motor, and I had a 1989 IROC-Z, With the 5.7 TPI, 350 motor in it. Both cars were far better than the POS Mustangs, out classed, and would beat the Mustangs too. Unfortunately, I got rid of them are long time ago. I really miss them, and wish I had them back. However, i upgraded to a 2017 Corvette Stingray Z51, and absolutely love it!!!
I get you regretting selling your IROC. I never owned an 80's Z-28 or IROC-Z, came close to buying a couple but I did not want to go into mega new car debt buying cars every couple years. So I would back off before buying one. I almost bought A Ford Mustang GT as well.. Ahh young and excited over cool, fun, fast cars. 🙂 My 80's sporty car was my metalic blue 1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 5speed.... I regret selling it to this day. No, I don't cry over it as it's water under the bridge, but I loved everything about that car. Peace ☮️ out man 👍
Going into debt at an early age will sap the fun out of any car, I think it was a good move. Those Daytona Shelby’s were incredible, one of my best friends in high school had one! 👊💯💯 Digby Odel thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
My first car was a 1987 IROC Black with the 305 and NO T-Tops. My grandpa bought it brand new and gave it to me for 16th birthday in 2006. Miss that car.
I grew up in the back of 89" IROC-Z Love them when upgraded, Step dad slapped a supercharger on her and boy it lit up! IROC may not look like much on paper but when my step dad bought his stock he went right out and did some nice burnouts in her like it was nothing. Cool car just engine swap and enjoy.
Spot on video! Owned a 92 RS 5.0, 5spd t-tops, Teal... and a 91 Z28 5.7L I missed them both. RS was "slow", but the 5psd was so much fun. Z28 was a monster at the time. I never understood the Mullet thing.
Sounds like you had the cream of the crop, incredible cars! 🙌🙌 You speak facts, the 5.7L Z28 was a monster 👊💯💯 I also never understood the mullet thing, I guess it’s kinda funny to some people. Vekurus thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
I bought a 1987 IROC Z28 with T Tops Black with red interior almost loaded. It was my first new car after working a couple of years out of high school and some help to finance from my parents. I remember ordering the car picking out the options with the sales guy, buying cars back then were a lot of fun and involved not like today. the best part was the delivery day, I was so excited because it took a couple of months to build the car and everyone was buying them up. That day the sales guy took me to the delivery area where customers picked up their new cars. The car was under a car cover and when the sales guy took it off, I was totally blown away!! This was my car which the wait and anticipation was an awesome experience! It was the 80's and I was living a dream and it was like yesterday, by far one of my favorite cars but the experience of owning it new these cars could handle and drive real nice, especially going out to the clubs and yes racing Mustangs!! Oh, my new old car is a 1983 Mustang GT convertible had to get it off my bucket list. Lol 😆
Man, what a great story! 🙌 Great experiences like that stay inside us a lifetime. Totally worth it! 💯💯 Your new Foxbody convertible is going to be FUNNN, those cars like to play and cruise! 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 🔥🔥
Bought a 1988 IROC new and absolutely loved it. I owned it for 14 years and then sold it. Bad mistake. I miss that car. Mine was black with the flat black and electric blue stripe around the bottom, the 5.7 and t-tops. I still love that stripe combo the most today. I took impeccable care of this car and it looked better than new when I sold it and here's why. The paint on those cars was a problem. With the new paints GM was using at that time, mine faded like crazy. I ended up having to take the whole car apart when it was like 10 years old, strip it to bare metal and had to repaint it. I spent the time and $$ for the paint and it looked like glass when done. The other issue I had with my IROC was the check engine light was always on (it seemed like) for a MAF sensor code. I spent tons of time and money trying to figure it out at the dealer, independent shops and on my own. Never got it figured out. I finally just pulled the bulb out of the light and called it fixed. Other than that, it was a very reliable car and was super fun to drive. I would totally get another one.
Sounds like you had a fun IROC! The T-tops really make them even funner! 🙌🙌Yes, you’re totally right about the paints back then. The single stage paints of those times would fade so fast because they didn’t have a clearcoat on top. Most modern paints hold up so much better! 👊👊 These are still great cars today! Up N Runnin thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
The paint was crap on them, especially after August of 1987. Why? .... Because GM closed the Norwood, OH plant, and they were all done in Van Nuys, CA. Which had a garbage paint processing plant at that time. I ordered my loaded '87 w/ the 5.7 in late '86 and got in Feb. of '87. It was built in Norwood, which was only about 40 miles from the dealer I ordered it thru. Owned it 18 years and SOLD it in 2005 with 20,200 original miles. It was never in the rain 1 time as I always had multiple vehicles, and in 2023 that continues for me today.
I'll let someone with more knowledge on the subject jump in, but I went through the 1988 RPO codes and it lists t-tops and a 350 and doesn't mention any exceptions. I picked my IROC up at the Braeger Chevrolet in Milwaukee, WI in June of 1988, just a couple weeks after graduating college in May of 1988. It took them a little time to locate the exact car I wanted. I know I would have wanted a 5.7 and a manual transmission, but could not get that combo together. The top items on my list were the 5.7, t-tops and black in color. I didn't realize at the time that some black cars came with the black and blue stripes. I thought they were all gold stripes so I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up with the blue stripe. I really wanted the Bose stereo option, but they added like $1500 (can't remember the exact number) to the price of the car. I had to pass on that option.
Red '87 IROC-Z t-top 5 speed sitting in my garage right now. In '98 picked up a '91 GTA 5.7 L98 that had been in a minor front end crash for dirt cheap. The engine had every possible hypo bolt-on. Edelbrock Hi-Flo intake, Edelbrock aluminum heads, 1.66 RR, pully's, AC delete, Mac headers, aluminum driveshaft, Flowmaster exhaust with larger center pipe, no cat, chipped. MSD ignition. Added a set of Ford high flow injectors. I'm good. Completely different animal than the 5.0.
Ufff! Dream combination! 🙌 A manual with the 5.7, must definitely be a blast to drive! 🚀🚀 That’s how it should’ve come from the factory! 💯👊👊 Thanks for watching brother! 🔥🔥
First impressions are important, or can be, and the first 3rd gen i saw saw a brown Z/28, maybe 2 tone, but it looked freaking beautiful next to 2nd gen. This has to be THE car for kller restomod projects.
It's still got the 16 inch gold honeycomb rim and 4 then aftermarket spoiler on it the spoilers were made of foam and cracked and warped after 10 years
I just bought a 89 iroc, blue, ttop and 5 speed with 3.42 gears. One of the best combos you can get on these. It’s not mint but I got it for 2500 but it runs and drives. Already did several things like lower it. Relocated the torque arm off the trans to the crossmember. And other stuff. I know 88-89 the iroc 5.0 was special in its own way only if you got the 5 speed. The 305 came with the l98 cam and a different tune. And it’s got almost the same power as the 350. But is actually faster then the 350.
What!? Incredible deal!! 💯💯 That’s the combo, sounds like you did your research! That 5.0 rips with the 3.42 gears! 💥💥 Mark Garcia thanks for watching!🔥🔥Happy New Years! 🍾👊🔥
Yeah.. 305 fuel injected was 215hp, 350 tpi was 225.. They were not much of a playful car.. I had both an 87 Iroc & a 90 GT fox, the fox was able to be slid and hooned around and much easier to modify.. I own a 22 SS 1LE now so I'm back on the Camaro bandwagon after owning that 90fox for 22yrs..
GOOD info on the bonded panels on the 91-92's. My brother and I sold a 91 5 spd 4 whd perf axle no a/c flat top black Z28 for 2500. running and driving.
That’s an incredible deal for someone, it’s hard to even get a decent parts car for that much 💯💯 Me and my brother also used to work on cars together when we were younger, great learning experience 👊👊🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed We ran up on a deal and flipped it quickly, it was rust free but the heater core was bad, the paint was terrible, the carpet was bad due to heater core and headliner was falling - great project but WE have 3- original un restored EARLY chrome bumper C3 vettes and early 2nd gen Camaro Z28's. I had a Burgundy and Gold 86 IROC back in 1989, all of our friends drove FORMULA's - GTA's TRANS AM's Z28's or IROC's... Best friend got a 89 Turbo TA brand new and he put nitrous on it.
@TheJagjr4450 Mannn! Those early Corvettes are were it’s at, especially with the chrome bumpers….makes them totally different to the later years. My friend has blue 71’ with a glass roof, it’s like driving around in a bubble….incredible! 🔥 In the future when I have more storage, I’ll definitely be getting one! Take good care of them, original ones are getting harder and harder to find 💯
Your correct on the 92 models. Ive had both, an 89 and currently a 92. The 92 feels way more tight and stiffer and a lot less structural stressing than my 89 did. My 89 had less that 60k on it and my 1992 currently has 50k on it. The 89 was more fun to blast around but the 92 is way more relaxing and driver friendly. Both are fabulous cars each great examples of their years.
Those are great years! 👊 And LOW miles! 🙌🙌 Not many left in great condition with low miles, sounds like you’ve got a keeper! 💯💯 Thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
Always liked them but have always been more of a fan of foxbody mustangs. The camaros handled better in the turns but just couldnt touch the mustangs in a straight line. I would love to have 1 of each!
Correct answer, one of each! 👊💯💯 Love them both, the Camaro’s T-tops in Miami are incredible! The Foxbody’s 5.0 is one of the best sounding V8’s on the planet! 💣💥💥 Matt Meyers thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed agreed 100 percent on the sound! A 5.0 and some flowmasters is the sound of perfection!! My fox has been put up for the winter for a couple months now and I bet I've went out and started it 6 or 7 times just to hear that sweet song lol..
I’ve kept my 89 Formula 350 that I’ve owned since 1991. I have to disagree that these cars are good in the snow. I don’t know for sure because I never took mine out in the snow. It was kinda dangerous and unpredictable in rain especially on the highway. So I learned early on to have a beater for inclement weather. As far as the 5.0 Mustangs being faster in a straight line, my results vary from this popular opinion. I was into street racing back in the day. Even bone stock, I was able to put a smack down on every stock or mildly modified 5.0 Mustang I ever came across. GT, LX, automatic or 5 speed, didn’t matter. I did lose to a handful of heavily modified ones. The 5.0 owners back in the day were amazed at how fast my Formula was. The ones who weren’t too embarrassed to talk afterwards never wanted a rematch. I do like the Mustangs, don’t get me wrong. That was originally what I was looking for when I stumbled across the Formula. The Mustangs were too expensive and I got a deal on the Formula. It was $2000 cheaper than any of the 5.0s I looked at and had much lower mileage to boot. I reluctantly bought it because I thought it was better looking but I too believed it was slower. How wrong I was.
@@mikee2923 the 350s were rare in the 3rd generation. For the most part they were all 305s. The 305s didn't stand a chance. The 350s were a much better race for sure you just don't see many. Had a buddy in high school who's brother had a iroc 350. He swapped out the auto in that car and put a 5 speed in it and that thing was fast! It's a shame none of the 350 cars had a option for 5 speed that would have changed the game for sure. In my experience the foxbodies were faster if you could get them to hook up, 5 speeds, the aod foxbodies were slow stock but fun. Mine is a auto car but it's got a built trans and a 35-3800 stall converter and the rear has 4.10 gears. Those changes alone make the foxes much quicker but then traction becomes an issue lol.. it's all a balancing act with both cars. I love them both but I have only owned 1 of the 3rd gen camaros and I'm on my 7th foxbody. This car has been built up quite a bit with heads, cam, intake, tb, and some suspension.. all in a stock appearing automatic gt convertible. It's a fun sleeper if you can call it that bc it sounds kinda mean lol.. those formulas are nice cars enjoy that you really see less of them then foxes anymore!!
For my '91 convertible I want to keep stock height springs, but lower it slightly with dropped spindles, but AFAIK they don't make them at a reasonable price like under $200 ea. I kept my stock wheels, but changed to C6 wheels - 17" frt. 18" rear. They look great to me, plus improved handling to go with Hochkis setup. Has 298k miles and you'd never know by looking at it.
Are people finally starting to appreciate these? My wife had a nice one when we met. Sold it for peanuts because no one cared about them. Yeah, they're slow, but that is easy to fix these days. They don't take much to really build something mean.
Yes, it’s getting difficult to find a decent one under $20k…soon it will be more. Demand is mainly driven by guys in their teens & 20’s, it’s a younger generation that had soccer moms driving Tesla’s….they want the opposite 👊👊 But I don’t think speed is the biggest reasons for the growing popularity, it’s more about the bold lines and style. The speed upgrades come later, after they fall in love with it! 💯💥 Brandon thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
had a black & gold '87 ordered with every available option and the Corvette 5.7. one of the nicest, and quickest cars i've owned. my wife was turning in the driveway and got t-boned by a 17 y/o girl texting on her phone. she looked up and seen the wife turning and jerked the wheel towards the car instead of away from it. and she was driving a dodge ram. totaled the IROC. i still wish she'd got hurt just a lil bit. lol j/k..... maybe
Ouch! Black/Gold…Incredible spec! 👊👊 Man… it’s not like you can just go to any dealership to buy one. I totally get how you how you feel! 💯💯 You’ll find another one, sometimes hunting for one is half the fun 🙌🙌 C.C. Ryder thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
I love 3rd gens, my first was an 84z28 my current one is a 91z28...t top of course, i love their bigger spoilers. Mine has a built 400 small block (408) and a th350 and no powersteering😂, im less than a week away from ordering some suspension goodies for it along with a s60 rear end. Mine also has the ws6 styled ram air hood that people either love or hate , i love it, its nice to not have your typical cowl hood.
Everything is up. I remember you could get a mint IROC-Z and Trans Am GTA for 4 to 5k in the late 2000s. At the time, time capsule ones were going for 8k at most. Rough ones were going for as low as 1.2k. Same for the Fox bodies. Times have changed.
I've had my camaro for about 5 years now i bought it for 3400 (this was my first car) wich in my country for a v8 car was kinda oke but it was a t-top, the roof leaked ,rust on the floor and stopped running the first time i drove it me not knowing how carbs worked and me not having a place or person to tell me i learned to work on it via the forums and internet(the heat spring didnt work on the automatic choke system) few months later lost compression on cillinder 7, so i janked the engine out, turned out to be a 305 CUI (5.0) instead of the 350 CUI (5.7) its was advertised with of the seller at the time. I now have the 350 from a corvette that according to the code came with 370hp from factory. it has been modified a little with some beevier internals and some bigger rockers. durijng completion of the engine it had to pass inspection so i needed a new exhaust now too so i have side pipe's now since my old one rusted of. and recently has passed inspections and i have to say this has never been a good economical choice (my own damn fault+i never meant it to be)but i still love it when i drive or look at it + i can fix it myself if something breaks i guess, i am a mechanic now like a legit one but i was still learning when i bought the car. so i guess do i recommend it i would say Yes if you have a place to work at it or a shed where it sits dry ,but then again i've been doing kinda oke aside from the engine swap.
I turned 16 in 1988 and my first car was a silver, LB9 TPI, hardtop, ‘85 IROC-Z. Build quality was quite suspect; the starter was an annual replacement, as was the A/C compressor. The Mass airflow sensor failed a couple of times, the catalytic converter died at about 50k miles. The 700r4 blew up around 40k miles. The clutch pack in the limited slip grenaded…….. in light of all of that, damn I miss that car and want it back 😞
The great thing about these cars is that they’re so easy to work on, and parts are cheap too! 💯💯 Finding a nice one however is not so easy unfortunately, but they’re out there! 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching! 👊👊
I looked at 20 cars before I finally stumbled over my 83 I own now, rust free and now has a modern LS swap, makes the car pure joy, like GM should have made it. Better late than never.
I bought a 1988 IROC-Z brand new. Was white with black interior. Nice wheels with Gatorback tires. Came with a 5.7 liter tuned port injected engine (225hp). Was mated to an auto transmission. It was a sharp looking car but honestly it wasn't that quick. My present day Challenger GT is faster.
Interesting. The 5.7 Z28 was tested doing the quarter in the high 13’s in 1991 (stock). The V6 Challenger GT with 303hp did only a 14.8 in the quarter by Car and Driver Magazine. Now the V8 Challenger’s are faster for sure, they’re decades newer💡 Barron thanks for watching 👊👊
Bought a used 3rd gen camaro many yrs ago. Worst car I ever had. Everday I'd go home and open the hood to find something new that needed to be fixed. She was pretty and nothing more.
Hmm.. This is one of the easiest, simplest, cheapest cars to work on.. How many miles were in it? Was it crashed? Was the deal you got too good to be true? Something doesn’t add up. Tom thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed They are insanely hard to find, especially the clips. Would be nice if a company made them again, and not the plastic ones. Those dont look right to me
Fact 💯💯 I’ve seen them popping up on eBay from time to time, it’s always over $2k+! I think eventually, some company will make a new set made out of aluminum
@@HernanSpeed If only mine didnt have them lol. Then again, I never should have sold it for 250 dollars. It had 30k miles and was beautiful. I sold two other cars because I had nowhere to keep them. Its a long story, since all of them were overseas in Europe. I thought shipping a car cost 10k. What a bonehead move.
I bought my LX 5.0 Mustang brand new in 1990 for $11,600 but the F bodies were just out of reach for a 16 year old kid. No regrets but I would have loved to have a 5.7 F body, Currently have a '89 Corvette convertable and a '82 C3.
I’ve had great experiences in C4 Vette’s, the L98 has amazing torque! I’ve yet to own a C3, but it’s in my future! Its incredible that most people now are looking for LX’s, it used to be the ‘deal’ in the Mustang lineup. Now, people see it as the purest Foxbody 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
So far you touched on the IROC, the fox bodies and Porsche. You are missing the one important vehicle that was the ass beater here in Miami and at Moroso (OG here)… the Buick GN & T-Type
@@HernanSpeed Thursday afternoons and evenings. También the warehouses by 87 ave Saturday nights and cruising the Grove. Hanging out too where they would shoot episodes of Miami Vice
I had a 1985 TPI Trans Am and it was a pretty nice car. That being said it didn't hold a candle to my 87 Buick Grand National with the exception of handling on a smooth road.
The Grand National is incredible! 👊 When Pontiac put that turbo engine on the Trans Am for the 25th Anniversary edition, they made the fastest accelerating American car sold! 🚀🚀 Edward thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
If I was going to do a full build, I’d actually be looking for a 6cyl in excellent condition!🚀🚀 The 6-cylinder cars were actually less likely to have been abused throughout the years! Less stress on the chassis! 💯💯 Thanks for watching brother!👊👊
I have the 5.0 port injected iroc z28 original rims it says 59k miles but I am guessing 159000. Could it be possible that there is only 58k. I am the third owner and from what I heard it sat for a long time with the original owner.
I don't think anything has really been done to it although wires were backwards and a lot of empty connections. I am just finishing cleaning up the fuel lines and system the iac was so plugged up when I finally got it out there was a ton of black that followed it. I can't wait to get it all back together and hear how it sounds, it's the best part.
Back in the late 90’s, my 1st car in highschool was also a 5.0 Foxbody! 🙌🙌 There weren’t any stock cars in Miami, so every race was interesting 🚀🚀 Those we’re the days! 👊👊 Kenneth thanks for watching! 🔥🔥

Facts 💯💯 Great advice on the exhaust! 🙌🙌
I just bought one for 1700. Interior is emaculante needs a bit of engine work but all in all I think it was a good buy. I am a 56 year old female my plan is to bring it back with it's full glory with a little help from a friend. So excited.
Incredible deal!!! 💥💥💯💯
3rd generation Camaro is my favorite generation. I want one of these and a Fox body mustang
ME TOO! 💯💯👊

I really enjoyed your take the 3ed gens. Crazy there’s not too many around and nothing on the road today like them.
Love 3rd gens! Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Agree! 💯💯 While it’s fun to modify and customize, there’s still nothing like original….especially as time passes 🙌🙌
Irocit Z thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
Totally get it 💯💯 A stock Chevelle with a digital cluster? Whyyyy?? Yess, sometimes people get carried away
Naa let them be, the more are ruined, the higher the price on ours❤
Great vid man! My dad also had an IROC, great memories growing up. Your going to pay big bucks for a nice one, that’s for sure
You know it! 👊👊

Robzilla60 thanks for watching!
A TA video sounds like a great idea!💡 Jason Knight thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
@@HernanSpeed yes 🙏🏻 Thank you. It wasn’t easy to find them. Took 25 years ! All are Black and Gold apart from the Teal 92’. One is the Recaro Edition 82’ T/A. Factory seats from Recaro. Cornering is 🔥
Wow that’s what you remember all right from childhood.

5 speed and tuned port wasn’t available till 87’ ….
I'm so glad there are finally parts available for these. Had a hard time finding parts for years.

Awesome video. Well-thought-out and we appreciate your take on 3rd gen Camaros. The feel/feeling these cars elicit is unique.

Facts! 💯💯🙌🙌
You were there!! Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
nice video man.. love these cars as well
Thanks man 🙌🙌 Have a Merry Christmas & great New Years! 👊👊🚀
That’s what I’m talking about! 🔥🔥 They are getting even more popular with time, and prices reflect it! Take good care of it! 👊👊

@@HernanSpeed Ahhh you are correct. It was a 305. Been a while lol. Changed it my post, thanks for pointing it out.
The 300ZX was awesome. Turns out the only big issue with Nissan of that era was you could easily break into them and start them with a finger nail file lol.
@udluz337 lol! Definitely, it also made the insurance rates super high! It’s now a classic, so less of a chance of it getting stolen for sure 🙌🙌💯

Just picked up a barn find 20k mile 86 black 5 speed. Bad when a car sits so long
Ufff!! 🔥🔥🔥Totally worth doing all the maintenance to bring it back up! 🚀🚀 Congrats brother! 👊
Great video love your take on IROC’s and Fox Bodies! 💪🏾

Thanks for watching brother!
Watching this video made me think of all the F-Body’s that were driven to my high school while I was there:
83 Z28 5-spd w/3.73 original LG4 but swapped out for a very healthy 355 ( his dad owned a local speed shop ).
85 IROC L69 5-spd 3.73
83 T/A LU5 Cross-Fire
85 T/A LG4 5-spd 3.73
86 Firebird 2.8 5-spd
84 Firebird 2.8
88 Camaro RS 5.0 5-spd
89 IROC conv. 5.0 3.08
82 Z28 LU5 Crossfire
84 T/A LG4 5-spd 3.73
86 Camaro LG4 3.42
87 FORMULA 5.0 TBI
89 Camaro RS 5.0 TBI
82 Z28 LG4
84 Firebird S/E 2.8
82 Camaro 2.5 ( so sad )
83 Z28 LU5
It was a fine time to be a teenager all through the 3RD GEN years!
You know it!! 🙌🙌 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
IROC's were so cool (are)
Are indeed. 💯💯👊
M Tbone thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
Great video! I have a '92 Z28 with the 25th anniversary package. Black with red stripes and red accents on the wheels, 30k miles. 5.7 L98. It turns a lot of heads when I take it out.
Ufff! That’s a rare one! 🔥🚀🚀 Take good care of it, they’re getting harder and harder to find!
Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Keep up the good work 💪 Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas! 👊👊
I had 2 of the 80's Camaros.
I had a 1984 Z28, that had the 305 HO
Motor,and I had a 1989 IROC-Z, With the 5.7 TPI, 350 motor in it.
Yesss! Those era of Camaros are really fun! The Vette’s amazing too! 💯🚀🚀
My 80's sporty car was my metalic blue 1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 5speed....
Digby Odel thanks for watching! 🔥🔥
My first car was a 1987 IROC Black with the 305 and NO T-Tops. My grandpa bought it brand new and gave it to me for 16th birthday in 2006. Miss that car.
You had an amazing Grandfather! 💯💯
CC thanks for watching! 👊👊
That’s what I’m talking about, it’s all about some looong burnouts!! 🙌🙌 Thanks for watching bro! 👊👊
The Blue and Black IROC with the flags at the beggining looks familiar.... 😂 Glad to see it get some love in your great video. 💪🏼
Epic shots brother!! 🔥🔥🇺🇸🇺🇸 You’re ride is spectacular, take good care of it! 👊👊
Also I would t be mad if you did another one on the 944 and 968!!!!! 😇
This sounds like a great idea! Thanks for watching bro!

Amen brother 🙌
Gotta say, 3rd gens have my heart.
Ive had 4 now and my current 88 5.7 iroc is hands down my favorite, just wish they would have come with the t5
The l98 is one of my favorite engines, so much low end torque! Over 330 lb-ft on that 5.7! 🚀🚀
Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Best car ever as far as I’m concerned!
👊👊👊
nice to know mine was one of the beaters running around with a 305
good thing shes now more than road worthy with a new to her 350 just needs paint
305’s are great with shorter gears, they really move! 🚀🚀
Thanks for watching man! 👊👊
I thought 1987 was the only year with the 5.7 and Ttops? And the rest of the years you could only get a hard top with a 5.7 in it.
@paulchristie4904 nope, you could get the 5.7 w/t-tops thru '89.
I still have my ‘87 Iroc-Z and I am the original owner. All stock.
That’s what I’m talking about! Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
That engine makes good horsepower!
Yesss, and feels powerful because of the TORQUE! 👊💯💯
Bulging Battery thanks for watching! 🔥🔥

I just bought a 92 Z28 25th anniversary edition needs some tlc so wish me luck!
This!! 🔥🔥 Great buy brother! Fix it up, it will be worth it! 💯👊👊
Aslo the camaro dash cap has a groove for the center vents as the firebird are vertical.
Correct 💯💯💯
First impressions are important, or can be, and the first 3rd gen i saw saw a brown Z/28, maybe 2 tone, but it looked freaking beautiful next to 2nd gen. This has to be THE car for kller restomod projects.
You’re speaking only the facts! 💯👊👊
My friend got one when he was 15 before he had license. The vin says it is a v6 but the motor is a LT1 350. That thing would haul ass..
Man! I bet it hauls! 🚀🚀 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
It's still got the 16 inch gold honeycomb rim and 4 then aftermarket spoiler on it the spoilers were made of foam and cracked and warped after 10 years
🙌🙌
Mark Garcia thanks for watching!🔥🔥Happy New Years! 🍾👊🔥
That’s an incredible deal for someone, it’s hard to even get a decent parts car for that much 💯💯
Me and my brother also used to work on cars together when we were younger, great learning experience 👊👊🚀

@TheJagjr4450 Mannn! Those early Corvettes are were it’s at, especially with the chrome bumpers….makes them totally different to the later years.

We like the same car’s! 🙌 A minty IROC Z is totally worth! 💯👊👊

@@HernanSpeed agreed 100 percent on the sound! A 5.0 and some flowmasters is the sound of perfection!! My fox has been put up for the winter for a couple months now and I bet I've went out and started it 6 or 7 times just to hear that sweet song lol..
Bro, then you get what I’m talkin about! It’s a musical instrument, especially with Flows! 🙌👊💯

That’s a great year!! Big miles, but it’s just getting started!💪💪 Thanks for watching brother! 👊👊
Demand is mainly driven by guys in their teens & 20’s, it’s a younger generation that had soccer moms driving Tesla’s….they want the opposite 👊👊
But I don’t think speed is the biggest reasons for the growing popularity, it’s more about the bold lines and style. The speed upgrades come later, after they fall in love with it! 💯💥

Everything is up. I remember you could get a mint IROC-Z and Trans Am GTA for 4 to 5k in the late 2000s. At the time, time capsule ones were going for 8k at most. Rough ones were going for as low as 1.2k. Same for the Fox bodies. Times have changed.
Fact 💯💯 Some ultra clean examples are starting to pop up, now they’re worth selling! 🚀🚀

The best part is learning to work on cars! 💯💯 Thanks for sharing your story! 👊👊

It was a sharp looking car but honestly it wasn't
that quick. My present day Challenger GT is faster.
Interesting. The 5.7 Z28 was tested doing the quarter in the high 13’s in 1991 (stock). The V6 Challenger GT with 303hp did only a 14.8 in the quarter by Car and Driver Magazine. Now the V8 Challenger’s are faster for sure, they’re decades newer💡

If I was going to do a full build, I’d actually be looking for a 6cyl in excellent condition!🚀🚀 The 6-cylinder cars were actually less likely to have been abused throughout the years! Less stress on the chassis! 💯💯
Thanks for watching brother!👊👊
@@HernanSpeed Mines all orig 6 cyl rebuilt motor and trans love it
I have the 5.0 port injected iroc z28 original rims it says 59k miles but I am guessing 159000. Could it be possible that there is only 58k. I am the third owner and from what I heard it sat for a long time with the original owner.
Those engines do lots of miles! Change out all the fluids, a tuneup, and it will be good to go! 👊👊

I’ll admit it… COOL CARS 😎
You know it! 👊👊💯

Loved gapping these cars in highschool with my 87gt 5.0 good time unless you drove a chevy
Back in the late 90’s, my 1st car in highschool was also a 5.0 Foxbody! 🙌🙌 There weren’t any stock cars in Miami, so every race was interesting 🚀🚀 Those we’re the days! 👊👊
