    EBay does have enough sales or customers to be so picky. Just wait until things get worse and they will drop this nonsense. There is going to be a big backlash from normal people on on this PC stuff, I can feel it starting already.

    Guys my thoughts with the promoting on Ebay...as a consumer when I see sponsored on a listing I know that is a retailer seller and if I am purchasing a item that I want to be warranty refuned if not working that's the one I will pick. If it is something that I consciously know has a lower probability or something wrong or low loss for me I will deliberately look for a non sponsored listing. Food for your thoughts

I have continued to watch a handful of reseller videos dropping a few that seemed to be full of it. I watched the rest of the podcast, do you really want me comment? Most every factor that is impacting eBay is completely out of eBay's control and the biggest began rear it's head right about when James said, 2021. Thought might be as a seller I double up my stuff online and that ought mean double my sales. Not the case, not at all. eBay has finite buyer traffic and its being eaten away like termites at wood by many entities and factors associated. If "xx" traffic is eBays nominal statistical average then "xx" is traffic delivered. It doesnt increase based on me listing twice as much as I have now. My doubling up only means more potential exposure to that nominal average delivered. eBay has been loosing buyers and traffic due to a literal plethora of factors most of which they've absolutely no control over whatsoever. The biggest impact is online retailers bar none because they are prioritizing online retail to mainstream, some even saying they anticipate to be out grow brick and mortar because thats how the generations brought up with this tech like to shop, delivered to their door or picked up in store with TRULY free shipping. TRULY free shipping is really free. Staples price online for this printer is same in store. They use what is called an immediate line item write off of the shipping expense which means the taxable revenue = price - shipping expense. So say, Printer is $299 and $30 to ship, they declare $269. Retail associations have said over the last four years online retailer traffic is up 40% and climbing and of that 40% they are seeing a WHOPPING 30% more purchasing. If we could statistically see a overall online retailer statistical comparator against eBay traffic and sales I bet donuts it'd be a parallel curve. As the online retailers evolve the Internet and unified supply chain towards the Internet we see the traffic wane into open marketplaces. People also don't equate Amazon nor Walmart into the equation. Due to Walmarts embracing authorized supply chain delisted merch sellers they blew past eBay like eBay was standing still in those revenues into the #2 spot GLOBALLY of eCommerce. EVERY SELLER IS IN COMPETITION NOT ONLY ON SITE FOR EBAY BUYER SALES BUT ALSO WITH EVERY SINGLE MAJOR ONLINE RETAILER NOW FOR THE CONSUMER DOLLAR. That's the deal and THEY ARE WINNING. You can say in ways it similar to what happens in communities where the Super Walmart stores open. Small businesses often (more often than not!) suffer due to the finite buyer traffic going to Walmart instead of those other stores. Even retailers such as say Lowes may suffer as Walmart carries a variety of home and garden merchandise from Pavers to Mowers, grass seed, rakes and on and on. ONLINE its BECOMING SIMILAR. Some months back I read Target in Q2 2024 when many a seller was howling as they do for sales Target Merchandise ONLINE was up a WHOPPING 400% (4 times) in revenues. Google mobile voice search speech recognition is the #1 undisputed king of traffic delivery now in eCommerce. Google for over 20 years has tried get to the top of ecommerce search usage having even tried its OWN marketplaces. Now they achieved that and many a government has concerns over that domination in respect to FAIR PLAY. Now commoner eBay seller thought seems to be, "Well, eBay is different than what is searched for at retailers that come up at Google showing Walmart or Kohls, Target etc" and that is somewhat true BUT MUCH of the same products are at eBay especially delisted, surplus, clearance, overstock, wholesale merchandise which is ALSO becoming MORE AVAILABLE through mainstream online retailers who have EMBRACED that merchandise JUST LIKE WALMART ONLINE. The retailers are getting the traffic delivered and eBay is not. ITS SO APPARENT in revenues and WHY promoted listings are now a staple in eBay revenues. If it were not for promoted listings its CLEAR as a bell that eBay actual sales are in decline. There is far far far more to this I can relay but these are the facts and how eBay is able to make movements towards maintaining market/traffic share is very much in question.

    I have random streaks of nothing happening all the time. We always want to mentally find a reason for something that might not have a reason. My recent seeming pattern is the daytime shutdown, with nothing selling from noon until about 8 PM. The brain looks for a pattern, when I started having dead daytimes I started looking for dead daytimes. However I have never once gone to ebay and tried to find or purchase items and not been able to do so.

    • @SPAMbanshee
      @SPAMbanshee 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t think James is looking to find glitches. I think he happens upon them because of the sheer level of eBay activity 60,000 listings requires. We all have a tendency to recognize patterns if we’re exposed to them and paying attention. He works very hard. He seems happy with the life he has created for himself.

    • @onefootflipper
      @onefootflipper 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SPAMbanshee I really like James, ran into him last week actually. However I never agreed with him on the "ebay update killed my sales" thing. That requires one of two things to be true, either updates are selectively doing this to certain accounts somehow. Or that updates are making it impossible to find or purchase items. There are no reports of the second one happening. I have never had an "ebay not working for buying or searching" incident that lasted more than about 30 seconds. Since the overwhelming majority of ebay updates don't have anything to do with the Cassini search engine (what is responsible for actually showing your items), I just find it hard to logically attribute my personal slowdowns to unrelated website updates. - Ultimately we will never have the data to really know, as I am sure anyone in the position to see it is bound by all sorts of non-disclosure agreements.

    Impressions are both meaningless and not and this stands true for any website be it eBay or some personal blog. Impressions are a count of results from a database query and that does not mean it's come before a human beings eyes. A simple example is lets say i do a search and it comes up with 5000 results and on that first page there are 50. The first five a customer might actually see with their eyes, the other 45 they never even saw but it IS AN IMPRESSION. With mobile devices now being used by 95% of shoppers this is amplified as they won't thumb scroll through through those 50 items. This is where promoted listings come in as they can push your listing INTO VIEW. Programmatically for "Impressions" to be accurate would require that a program written in a language called Javascript built into web browsers would have to actually TRACK what comes into the viewport of the device be that a phone, tablet, PC, Screen Reader etc. Then it would have to send that "Viewport Hit" if you will back to the server (eBay) to record as a "True Impression" if you will. Imagine for a moment how much server activity would need to occur with millions of shoppers browsing and EACH ITEM coming into their viewport before their eyes would need have a "call" happen to eBay's servers to record it. It would take MASSIVE server infrastructure and bandwidth (which is not free!) to do that and really recording that data is meaningless. It doesn't cause conversions so like any website the "Impressions" simply mean a result came back in a database query, it doesn't mean an actual person VIEWED the data. Further, we don't know how many results eBays pulls from the databases in a query, how many are being cached? It's more efficient to do a database query of say 250 results than do 5 with 50 results each EVEN THOUGH only 50 of those 250 results are on "Page 1 Results" if you will. STILL if your item comes up in that 250 result query it will likely be counted as an impression. For that NOT TO HAPPEN would require a server side software application would need actually LOOK at every item in that resultant query... Aka: Software would need parse that first page 50 item result and record each listing having an impression. If the customer then wants see the second page of results, parse those EVEN THOUGH a new database query never occurred. Enterprise level software architectures usually will not do this as again the data is a VERY LOW (Near lowest) RESOLUTION MEASURE statistically. So instead its VERY likely that in that 250 item resultant data from the database query an impression is flagged regardless if whatever, "Page 2" was ever even viewed.

    So a question I would have is: for unique item sellers, does the conversion rate of your account matter? Or just the conversion rate of individual listings with multi quantity? Sounds like he’s saying that for unique item sellers the best thing we can do is end/sell similar to get the new item boost in search

    If we stay with the thought that Ebay is only concerned about their profit to keep the shareholders happy. Of which I agree with that. Then if we take ebays recent history of money grab then one would have to believe that if ebay does anything then I see them charging customers a percentage fee. But not lowering the seller fees there by making more money. Now will they do that I hope not but with their recent track record it wouldnt suprise me a bit if they did.
