when i started , estate sales and estate sale cleanouts were a good source. I would hit day 1, scoop the goods, and not even go back for day 3. Now, day 1 and 2 are so high priced, I show up on day 3 the sale is still fully packed and now its on 75% day. So, while I still try to get there day 1 , theres less pressure. Many estate sale companies are running shady practices by doing a buyout at the end so they get the homeowner's stuff for near-free and they basically sat in a folding chair all week with their sky high prices watching buyers come & go. You can tell the shady ones
While it sucks currently I'm glad I'm not the only wondering WTF is going on with eBay. It's never been so difficult to make consistent sales as the past 6 months has been but especially the last couple of months. Waiting for the Summer Slow Down to end. Love you guys on this podcast. Please continue to make them.
These chats are the very best, I watch you all as individuals but when you bounce off each other it's another level. Fantastic stuff, keep them coming.😊
i have returned back to work and its great now i resell part time when i have free time the stress in my life has decreased tremendously im glad i did it
I did a deep dive on my numbers today and I’m pretty sure eBay has realigned their coding to be pay-to-play. All of my stat drops seem to align with those program roll outs. I did some math and laid out what I’m comfortable spending on each program on a 5 day trial. I’m hoping that they buy me some time to figure out the speed and next steps of niching out to several smaller stores/brands with cross listing.
I went to an auction today - Tens of Thousands of dollars were being exchanged for guns and ammo. So I imagine there is huge potential in that market. Two things I lack to jump into that - Licensing and knowledge. I imagine that becoming a licensed gun dealer cannot be all that hard. However, knowledge of firearms, I think, would be a key factor and would take much more time to acquire. I am sure a ton of other categories are the same. Acquire the knowledge and the deals will follow.
Tons and tons of high knowledge categories are out there. I sell in a high dollar niche and couldn't imagine sourcing at thrift stores or yardsales. Watching someone hunt an entire day for the same amount of profit I'll make on 1 sale is humbling...but it takes money and knowledge
People always talk about sales and never what they are able to save after all expenses and bills paid. If you are platform dependent reselling and you cant keep taking money out to save and invest elsewhere than you are naive to think you have more control of your business than you do, not your sandbox, dont forget it.
I totally agree with keeping bolos to yourself. I part out appliances. Even as a small channel I refrain from talking about certain machines ams focus on how I price and list. I call it the Lindey Glenn bubble gum oops. Everyone ran out and bought that bubble gum and out priced her. Even giving out information on smaller channels can spread like wild fire if the product is hot enough.
Many full time ebay sellers are moving to part time/shifting to whatnot, other things. It is a perfect storm that is destroying profits. a) consumers are strapped, b) suppliers now compete with us /prices are not sustainable (goodwill etc) c) shipping has increased 10% d) ebay is nickling and dime us to death with fees. All this adds up to not nearly as attractive as it was before ..
Thank you, Jon, Josh and Beard! People should not be complacent about what's going on in the world because it's very different now than it has ever been before. Without saying more, it's pretty scary. Anyway, on the eBay front (today) I cannot send offers. The offers eligible list just piles up. I am starting to think that some people are on good servers and others are on servers that shift from good ones to bad ones where nothing works. That lighthouse affect should not be happening. Why do things on the site just break down all the way periodically? Why do the same things sell well on several other platforms, yet not on eBay? 3 other platforms keep my sales happening. eBay should be the best, but definitly not a well oiled machine. Have a good day, All!
That populated stuff with media sucks. If you are selling the cheapest (and I have some) it's okay to screw up publisher etc but 99% if even my cheap stuff has a reason why I shouldn't populate ebay information. There are millions of errors in that information. I have to change almost every one. As far as Amazon? If a media seller gets caught listing against the wrong version because that is what populated?.. well, we know what Amazon does..lol
AI is just another tool, you're not gonna see an influx of sellers, who all of a sudden want to sell something cause AI does, whatever. You still need the motivation, drive, and spirit to want to resell.
Thanks guys, really refreshing to watch sellers who are genuine and honest. Way to many Tubers dangling the carrot for views.
thanks for always being brutally honest and no BS like so many other seller channels

Not much has changed in past 30 years.
Sourcing at thrift stores was never a good long term model.

I have a buyer saying he can''t view my items that could be an ebay glitch and explain the sudden slump in sales.

Business is suffering across the board on all platforms
Business of the business. Not what I sell or do. That’s a nuna. Learn adapt and modify. That’s the business of the business

Jon, what good does it do to be so negative.
Sometimes I can get caught up in the honesty of my emotions. I’m human. But I hear ya.
Possible Potential Pontification.
