    This is the best episode you have ever done. This touched on many subjects that I am familiar with. Within the subject of history, we need to know where we have been to know how to proceed. Historical information, photos included, should NOT be banned. People need to learn about history (the good, the bad and the ugly) in order to pave the way to the future. I have done so many things in my life, and one of them is doing school assemblies. I cannot believe what kids are NOT learning. Regarding ebay, I also feel the same as you all do, where it comes to eBay changing things on the site and not giving us a heads up that we might experience a slow down due to work that is going on in particular areas. It is so frustrating. Thank you for this episode! Many of us feel the exact same way!

    Awesome episode!! Two listings taken down last week and the same thing happened slow sales couldn’t figure out what was going on. Both were matchbook covers one was advertising a medicine the other was Disneyland advertising aunt Jemima‘s kitchen. I deleted both of the listings once they were taken down.

    People naively think they've built their own business. All they've done is become a contractor for ebay's website without a contract and just a user agreement. It is a hustle, thats why you take the money you make out of it and find a better business to invest into, whete you can actually have an income and build equity.

    You may see more comments because I’m 6 minutes in but ALL 3 of you have hit the nail on the head. Thank you for speaking on this. As someone who deals with mainly ephemera and historical items it’s nice to see people with rational common sense views on these issues. As for now I can’t say much more because you have already spoken all my sentiments. Again a big thank you for speaking up about this. If you get one person to look at this stuff in the correct perspective you’ve made a difference. And we need that more than ever.

    Thanks for discussing this topic. Josh, your knowledge is phenomenal. We are lucky to have you here.
    I think that probably eBay is taking this action because of lawsuits and for legal reasons. It is sad they don’t share this with Sellers. Has anyone talked with eBay and asked for more information?

    These takedowns of perfectly legal items are just crazy and frustrating with Ebay. It's always been there like 9 years ago attempting to list a Velcro item and having it taken down. But now it just seems out of control over stuff like this. This month alone I have had 7 take downs in jewelry and one shotgun magazine. What's next ebay? I'll bet taxidermy isn't long for Ebay. I'll bet many more items in military surplus will also go. And many more to follow for sure!

    No one on this panel has actual academic credentials. This is to say, how one handles the historical artifacts especially the histories of native peoples, have a protocol that has been established by entities like the library of commerce or the Smithsonian et al.
    I’m a journalist and it takes many steps to use an image in a story. Throwing something you stumbled upon in a storage unite onto eBay for profit can be perceived as insensitive. Dunnig Kruger effect in action here.

      None of these items are from storage units. I appreciate you saying that we don't have the academic credentials that you deem necessary to discuss these things ... but I would disagree if that is what you believe is required to do research on historical items. I graduated from Queen's University in 2004 with an honours in Chemistry, 2005 University of Toronto with a Masters in Chemistry, 2006 University of Toronto Mississauga with a Masters in Project Management, 2007 PMP from PMI (let it expire).

    Josh keeps talking about how there is no policy. Have you read the eBay offensive materials policy? There’s a whole page outlining materials that might be deemed offensive. It’s not like this is coming out of left field. Media that perpetuates racial stereotyping is listed. It’s very possible your items crossed that line.

  • @ProfitFirstReseller
    @ProfitFirstReseller 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Is it really surprising a corporation of eBay’s size would be hesitant to participate in the sale of potentially offensive items? Josh is acting like all of his ‘research’ is gone… you mean eBay listings? You can still sell and write about these items on your own website. This is not about censorship or free speech, it’s about a private company choosing not to participate in certain categories. Seems perfectly reasonable. Especially if they are potentially offensive items.

So once all the listings are on List Perfect, then disconnect your List Perfect account from your eBay account? Then you can work off List Perfect getting the individual listings copied to your Spotify account at a comfortable work pace.

    Strangely however, I just searched on Ebay the words "antique native American photo" and there are 1,000+ results, with 160 sales. So clearly there's a lot up that has not been taken down. There are even multiple listings of the exact same Eskimo stereoview card in this video, and they use the word "Eskimo" in the title. Odd. I've had stuff taken down in the past as well. Nothing from Cuba can be listed, even if it is from pre-embargo times. My understanding is Ebay cut off anything from Cuba, it doesn't matter what time period it comes from. I listed a carved bone item that Ebay took down because they seem to have thought it was ivory. They wanted me to specify what type of cow bone it was, and I didn't want to make up a particular breed and then be accused of being wrong. So it gets elsewhere.

    "I've said this before and I'll say it again and I challenge people who are upset with eBay and I understand why you are upset with eBay, but I challenge you with this - who cares. Who cares eBay favorites this they favorite that they do this and that who cares and I say who cares from a place where I thought deeply about this I've gone through the whole Gambit of it trying to figure things out and the reason why I say who cares is what can you do about it. Who cares? Answer, I care because it affects my sales. My response to you then is what can you do about it. Your answer is nothing so who cares .Waste of time and energy and it took me a while to get there it is an utter waste of time and energy to focus on that part of what's going on you can't control it.
