On the promoted listings topic if you have high sell through items you can promote at 2.5 if you have low sell through promote at 8% and above

Hen pecked by those dang peckers 😃 We have no choice anymore. Pay to play.
I noticed that when you are putting in the percentage for the promoted listing, a message shows that says something like ‘performance may be low’ UNTIL you put in 7% or more, then the message is gone! So seems to me that 7% or more is necessary to get results. Have you guys noticed that? I have tested it a few times doing increments like 2.3, 2.4 etc all the way to 7% and then the ‘may not perform well’ message disappears

Yes, it's just about half of the recommended. I have definitely noticed that.

"Become The New Todd!" LOL It all sounds like fun and games to work hard for 40 years and then back off and sit in a golf cart or bass boat and while away the hours. However, with this stupid inflation Goods, Services, Fees, Taxes, Insurance, and Health Care are taking larger chunks out of what should have been an easy retirement.
Fortunately, reselling has afforded me the ability to maintain a middle-class retirement lifestyle. Without it I would travel less, empty the pool, pare down to one vehicle, turn the thermostat to 80 degrees in summer, stop charitable giving, never eat out, and a myriad amount of other things.
For you younger folks - Use the adage "Make Hay While The Sun Shines" a mantra. Because it is true that as a person ages there is less energy and fortitude to pile up the money.

You ever watch a video and wish you had been part of the conversation as it was happening? That's me on this one! There was some good stuff here guys. We see things from different perspectives for sure but this episode was thought provoking. It's very easy to get in the trenches of the platform discussion and forget to poke your head out and see the whole battleground sometimes. We try (and often fail as well) to focus on the product above all else. We are constantly in search of our next "Product" opportunity. The day I find a good, high ticket, product that I can buy reliably, I'll start my own platform back up. Until then, we put the products we have in the best platform to move them and we play by the rules of those platforms (within reason) we certainly ain't giving ebay the advanced ads money lol.

@16:40 My sales aren't there and my margins aren't there. I have left the ebay building and doubt I will ever go back. I still have inventory, so technically I guess I am still a seller. So if I no longer sell on ebay, I am no longer buying on ebay either. See this is what I think ebay fails to see. When my store was going very well I did buy alot on ebay. So I think I bought around $4,000 on ebay in 2020, and thousands each year in 21, 22, 23. This year my store sucks and can't sell any of the same products I sold for so long, so my purchases are down on ebay... I think I have bought less than $100 on ebay in 2024. But if I can't sell stuff on ebay through my store....why would I buy?
Good luck to all of you, Josh Jon and Beard.

I think Josh is thinking in the right direction as far as cleanouts. I think we have valuable first hand experience and knowledge, being buyers at estate sales and garage sales. I just think it’s a matter of having your ears and your eyes open and the ability to hop on opportunities when they arise. I was at an estate sale earlier where the estate sale company had a bunch of stuff in the garage that they filled up black garbage bags with (apparently because they got wet) and they needed someone to come and pick up the bulk trash, but the caveat was that they would have to pay a fee for that service. A good business model to have would be having a relationship with local Estate Sales companies to not only take whatever they have left over in bulk for a very reasonable price or, even better, in exchange, for being their go to junk remover for a fraction of what other companies would charge.

Very nice video and very good points. At the end of the day there is only so much juice in a glass that sellers can give out before the glass runs dry and sadly eBay seems to have forgotten that at some point it isnt worth selling on the site.

Great conversation! I promote each item individually but on my own terms. I never promote at the recommended. I also don't think that there is any exposure for items that are not promoted at all. Some things sell organically but all of mine are promoted to some degree.

Pecker Plucking Playtime !! I love this show !! The faces on it,,,, yeah. As to recent developments. I have set my promoted listings on 5 different stores down to 3.2 percent. On some items, in some stores I was running as high as 10%. I ran this program for 6 months. I made the change to various items and stores in the first week of February. I charted out sales on an old school graph, with a pencil and graph paper. Just like your granddad would do. I compare regularly weekly comps, monthly comps, yearly comps, and specificall YTD figures. The trend shows me a tremendous spike over 4 months in 2021. Then a gradual decrease over 2022 and 2023. Still above 2020, and I reject any data from 2021 anymore, so I know my inventory is not total shit, and my prices are marketable. I have over the last year become more selective in purchases. I no longer pay prices for goods that I was paying in 2022 and 2023. I look for alternative suppliers, but do not put all my eggs in one basket. If a supplier wants 10% more than they did at the same time last year, I may pass on their offering, and I do tell them why. Statistics are a finger tap away. And you need to know your COG on almost all you items. If you don't you will have dead stock. NOW, as to the change of the program I started in February this year, I am not getting eyes on my products at 10% promoted. The number crunch says it. It is there in black and white. Same item, renewable, items that are consistant sellers, those that are "need" not "wants" are down 12%. AND my sales are down, BUT my selling per expenses were up. AND I see no advertising by Ebay to bring buyers to the platform. So I am paying Ebay more money to expose my items that have been on the platform, in some instances, for 7 or 8 years. My net funds (profit , still have to remove COG) were down to 46%. That number in February was 58%, and took a nose dive in the second week of April. I will not, and do not, have any intentions of paying Ebay to advertise my products on Google or any other platform. I can do that myself. Why would I trust Ebay to spend my money intelligently, and more important to me, profitably.. They do not spend any/much of their own capital to advertise, why would I want to have them buy $30 of ads on Google, and keep $70 of my $100 budget as fees under terms of service. Ok, end of the rant... I need a cigar and to move the hose.

Katie & Vikki said that they have talked to ebay directly and she was told it does absolutely no good to promote over 10%. It's an even playing field at that point. In fact, Vikki is going to Ebay open again this week. Just what I heard! From their last "Sunday" video.

Amazon fees are steep but hundreds of $$$ are in sales ever day. Not being niche and dime every day. Fba gets google surching no extra pay for click. eBay is for hard to find collectible ect. New used multi quality goes to places I sell so much more and fast. Promotion rate is flat 5% no more that’s it.
