Thank god for this video! My wife is thrilled that the bag of lights is lonely taken care of!
You're welcome. Happy wife, happy life 😊🙏
Is there a way to do the blind corner cabinet with only a 15 inch deep cabinet? I am putting some cabinets in my laundry room / pantry and would prefer not to lose the corner space
Thank you for your question but I'm not sure what you mean. Base or wall cabinet? 15" deep next to....?
@kitchensbyrannes I have a corner where two 15 inch deep base cabinets meet. Trying to figure out how best to do it since the planner only seems to have corner options for 24 inches deep cabinets.
Ah, I see. You can use the wall cabinet corner solution. Just add legs. It's basically a 36 inch wide wall cabinet where you add a panel and these brackets. www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/utrusta-corner-hardware-galvanized-10343644/ Check the assembly instructions for the brackets and you'll see what I mean.
@@kitchensbyrannes ahh ok I was wondering if that would work. Would I do anything different with the top of the cabinet since base cabinets don't have a top? I haven't done any sektion builds yet so apologies if this is obvious. I actually have my first set of wall cabinets coming for above the washer and dryer Monday. My wife wanted to get rid of all our open shelving and gets doors on everything
Nope, just add legs 👍
In an open wall situation where there is only one corner and the rail ends in open space, is it also possible to slide on the cabinet from the side with the brackets installed normally?
Yes, certainly. However, your rail must be flat for the cabinets to slide with ease but it's certainly possible.
Thanks for help, mate. IKEA's manuals are useless. 😆
Tell me about it 😜
Tip If your ceiling is sagging don't just accept it and work around it. Find out if it's falling down before you waste all your effort. Sounds obvious but obvious things are often neglected because they are so obvious to everyone that everyone often assumes that someone has checked already.
Thanks for the tip. If the ceiling is hanging like a hammock, it certainly needs to be looked at.
@@kitchensbyrannes It doesn't need to be sagging like a hammock for there to be big problems. A friend of mine was going to buy a house that looked great but with a very slight sag in the ceiling. The building inspection condemned the house because the entire frame was nothing but termite nest.
Great video and i made my template for 3 size of handles. Only thing i did different was I found it hard to line up the tape for the doors so i placed more tape and drew a 90 degree line.
Good job, it's all about making it work for you.
Do you have a mailing address? I 3d printed your light jig and would like to send it to you. I’m all done with it for my kitchen.
Thanks for the offer but there's no need to email the actual thing. I'll be happy to receive the file and I can print it myself. BambuLab 💪
@ where do I find your email?
@ what’s the email?
You can send the files here kitchensbyrannes.com/share/ Thanks 👍
@ I sent you something a little bit ago. The site wouldn’t accept .stl files though
This was amazing, thankyou. One thing I wondered though was, when you installed the counter top after this I'm assuming at both ends you had quite a gap to the wall. From the video it looked like about a fingers width. What strategies do you use to cover up this gap?
Thanks 😊 For that I have no strategy since I'm not installing the countertop 🤣 The client wanted laminate and the installer actually did a decent job. A lot of scribing 😱
Thank you for the reply. I fear I have a lot of scribing to do too 😅
Just do it 😂
That garbage bin is ridiculously small.
To some, it's sufficient. To others, it's not.
Thank you for your videos, so unbelievably helpful. I want to route the slots for the back panel, can you please tell me what is the router bit you have used? I have watched soooo many videos and no one mentions the kind of bit for this Ikea material. Thank you Karen ☺️❤️
You're welcome! I'm sure it's ⅛" or 3 mm.
@@kitchensbyrannesThank you, I understand the size, but I mean what actual kind of bit do you use so it won’t chip the panel. Is it just a straight cut bit or a more fancy type of bit. In appreciation Karen ☺️❤️
Ah.... sorry, my bad. Nothing fancy. Just a regular one.. long... Thin. Not sure what it is called 🤗
@@kitchensbyrannes Thank you for your quick response. I’m using a Makita trimmer/router with the edge guide, a straight cut bit, size 3 mm x 6.4 mm shank size, with a 10 mm depth. An older carpenter’s son told me, he was told by his Dad, to make cutting knife cuts the length I want to route to avoid chipping, and to go slow with several deeper cuts. Like the V cuts you make for the new shelf holes to get a good finish I guess. Any other advice would be much appreciated. Karen ☺️❤️
Practical before pretty my dad use to say.😊
Your dad and I would agree 👍
Have you made this video yet? I am in dire need to see it before I build my island. It is a single row 90".
It's coming.....it's coming. Next week at the latest for sure.
@@kitchensbyrannes Thanks. I have been going over the instructions and built the frame. Question, are the screws used to secure to the floor not included? If not, what would you suggest to buy for an engineered hardwood floor on a plywood subfloor? Also, for a 90" 3 cabinet island is only 1 frame used and centered? I ask because my IKEA designer included 2.
One is enough. The Ikea planner/order system is a mess. Sometimes there's 2-3 anchor frames delivered for a kitchen with no island or peninsula 🤣 Use whatever screws you have with a flat head and long enough to secure a strong connection
Have you ever done a drawer in the kick panel for trays?
Nope, never. Ikea does not offer such a product.
Hi, I love your videos! Would you consider making a video about this IKEA’s new method for securing cabinets to the floor? This is one of my next steps, and I plan to use that hardware. I couldn’t find any videos about it on TH-cam. Thanks!
Sure thing! I'm working on it, for a single-row island first, and then the double. Should be ready within a week. Thanks 😊
Does anyone have recommendations on which style of Ikea cabinet is best? Has anyone used the Vedhamn cabinets? We're also considering white or off-white. Not sure which model to choose. I love Ranne's videos. So grateful to have found this channel with this wonderful Danish man. Both of my parents were born and raised in Denmark so I really love hearing that accent.❤
Thanks 😊 🇩🇰 Accent...? What accent? 🤣 I installed a vedhamn kitchen last week. Beautiful I think. Check this for statistics: th-cam.com/video/83x1ecI55sM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vF2iMt7OjFrrgw9I
Thankyouuu! Finally it worked!💪🏼
Yay....you did it 😁
WHAT TOOLS DID YOU USE? WHY AREN’T PEOPLE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT TOOLS THEY USE???!?
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?🤔 I can't answer for "people" but I'll eventually make a video about tools. Until then, you can see the content of my toolboxes here: www.amazon.com/shop/kitchensbyrannes?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_aipsfshop_WQF1NXHP8Y0R7AKRH1KQ&language=en_US
Lars, I want to thank for all your great videos. I never installed cabinets before, but watched almost all of your videos and you had so many great tips through them, like how to install rails, pair the remote, hang doors, put on knobs etc. These made the install so much easier. I believe that without your videos, I would not have been able to do the job. Many thanks!
Thanks 🙏 I'm happy to hear that the videos made a difference to you 🤗
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
This is a great video! I put off doing this to my cabinet for years. I've been living with mismatched cabinets in my kitchen because I didn't think I could do this. Thanks for the step by step.
Glad I could help you tackle that project! 🙂
@@kitchensbyrannes I'm modified the depth of my Ikea kitchen cabinet today. It looks great! I wish I would have done this years ago. Thanks so much!
@jamijp10 Thanks 🙏
I put this same cabinet together by myself today and it was a challenge but I got it. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome 🤗 I did that too 😁 today.
If I've got some rail off cuts (3 x 500mm long), do you think they can still be used in any way?
Hmm.....not sure for what 🤔
@kitchensbyrannes thanks for the quick response! I meant for more cabinets 😊 so perhaps abut them next to each other? The wall is a stud so thinking if I can afix them to the top of the framed wall. Do you think they will be strong enough? Or better to buy a another new rail?
Lars, you do incredible work.
Thanks 😊
Brilliant! Thank you! Easy to follow and did the job!
You're welcome.
I went with the Lazy Susan corner cabinet, and really regretted it. The space is very limited, and if anything is knocked off the shelf, have to get on your hands and knees to retrieve it.
Yes, the Lazy Susan corner cabinet is not the best if you want to fully utilize the cabinet.
Don't tell me it's wrong tell me how to do what's right. Manufacturer Instructions are useless
Be careful with ceiling can lights. Friends had their IKEA kitchen installed, there was enough space for the upper cabinets doors to open but they left one door open right under a ceiling light. The door finish started to melt because of the heat of the light.
Good point. Thanks for sharing. Change to LED would be better.
perfect 🎉
Thanks 👍
If you have a 5 meter kitchen how would you check that the wall is even? Do you use a longer steel to check the wall? Cause if you use a 2.5 meter rail to check a long wall it's very hard to make straight cabinets from end to start
You still use the rail for checking. Just do it in increments and let the rail slide across..it should remain flat on the wall as you move it along.
@kitchensbyrannes did it. It's a must to straighten the wall before you hung the cabs
I cant find where you have this, but I saw one of your videos that explained the difference between Ikea PZ2 and PH2 Screws. When I saw that, I immediately went out and ordered some PZ2 Bits. Wish I had them when I started. So Much easier to drive the screws now that I have the right Bit. Thanks for the Info and would suggest you put it in any new videos as a reminder.
Yes, small difference, big help. I'll keep your suggestion in mind 🙂
Very helpful, thanks.
You're welcome! 🤗
Thank you for the explaination
My pleasure ☺️
genius!
Thanks 🙏
Hi Rannes, Great video, it's my daily companion as I install my own IKEA kitchen! Question: What do you do with the shims you put behind the upper cabinets in oder to level them out? Do you glue them to the back or simply let the friction hold it in place? And how much do you cut/trim your shims? Thanks!
Thanks 😊 I let friction and gravity hold it into place. When doors are in and cabinet is loaded, they won't move. I only use one shim, thick end upwards, then it doesn't slide down
Hope your electrical wires to sockets are not going down - you just went thru one at the far end.
Thank you for your concern. I'm not sure what you mean, but if you suggest that I put a screw in a wire, I can assure you that it didn't happen.
I wish we had known this earlier. Your videos have been very beneficial to us.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks so much! This was so much clearer then the instructions that came with it.
Glad it was helpful! 😀
Thank you for the video. Could you help me with this question? If I have the TRADFRI 30W driver (which can connect 10 led strip units), and I want to connect 10 SKYDRAG led strip units of each 6W (60W total), wouldn't that exceed the maximum 30W of the driver? In which case I would have to connect 2 TRADFRI 30W drivers, correct?
Yes, you'll need two power supplies.
@kitchensbyrannes Thank you :-) So if i understand you correctly, a connection wire between the two drivers isn't enough. Do you mean that i really need a seperate powersupply with powerplug for each driver?
Driver = power supply. Trådfri is the power supply/driver. Yes, 2 x 30 W to handle all that light 😄
@@kitchensbyrannes thank you 😊😊😊
@@kitchensbyrannes thank you 😊😊😊
Ceiling line !
What about it? I didn't build the house 😁
How do you solve the problem if the wall is leaning back?, so the lower part of the wall is coming towards you (or even the other way around). No wall is perfect, so the lower spacer blocks that comes with the Ikea cabinets (and are hold in place with a small nail) also have to be made thinner or thicker. Because some will not touch the wall or others will be to thick.🤔
For base cabinets these spacers are pointless. The cabinet is hanging in the rail and stands on four legs. Don't use it on those. For wall cabinets you'll use it unless the wall is leaning back. In both cases, you'll need shims. Leaning forward: spacer+shims Leaning back: shims only
@kitchensbyrannes thank you very much for the confirmation!😀
My pleasure. 🙂👌
Your videos are always great. I hope you redo this video with the new assembly kit as it attached differently. The new strips are solid wood - which i find good - and use the regular brackets which came with the cabinet. But they only use one strip at the top. There is a angle bracket that drops in the back of the slot for the back. the instructions only show where to install on the back panel for one that goes to the bottom of the cabinet - not all the way to the floor like yours does. Please, Let me know if you do an update with the new assembly kit and floor frame. Thanks.
The new video is in the works. If you subscribe and turn on notifications, you'll know when it's uploaded.
thanks :)
Happy to help 🙂
I wish I had found your TH-cam channel before I started installing my IKEA cabinets. Fortunately, I haven't secured the cabinets together yet so I an basically start over again and do it the right way. Your instructions have saved my kitchen. Thank you so much!
Welcome to my channel. Just in time for your installation 👍
Thank you sir! Truly helpful. Made our whole family happy today :)
Glad I could help! ☺️
Used on on the weekend, you have to think about what the width will be based on what's going around the base of the island, and you can't adjust the height, so figure that out with the adjustable feet, then first fix the brackets to the floor as the height isn't adjustable, and then you end up with so much wood left you could have done another island based on the old system. Did a single row of 30 inch base cabinets. I guess engineer's like to engineer things....even things that have already been solved.
Yup, I used it too this week for a single-row island 90" long, so I didn't have to cut the length. I'm not doing as Ikea suggests. I use it in the same way as I used the old ones. The video is coming out soon.
You sure optimized my bank of pantry cabinets. I took your advice on the size, the door fronts and even the knobs! Great installation as well. I would highly recommend your services.
Thanks, Grace, I hope all is well.
Jig dimensions don’t make sense. What is total width of jig and distance to centreline of jig. Thanks.
Hey ...I used the very same jig today and it worked very well. Check the description for the jig, did you do that? That's the one I use.
@@kitchensbyrannes your template says 3 inches but that's not the total width as you don't say how wide the jut out is on the side that is 4 1/2 long. or should the 3 inch line be moved to the top to line up with the top of the jut out.
Yes I see that. Being an engineer , I should be ashamed of myself. Sorry. However, since the placement front to back is not as important as the left to right location, half an inch more or less makes no difference. The measurement I left out, is 4 inches.
@@kitchensbyrannes Two thumbs up on the jig, just made it and used it. thanks for the videos...
You're very welcome 🤗 I'm glad you made it work 😁
Im installing a similar vent hood from another brand and thank god for your video because it came with only electrical and utilisation manuals! I was so lost on how to actually put the hood insinde my cabinet!
Glad it helped ☺️
What brand and model is compatible?
If you mean other brands and models, I don't know. The one I'm installing in the video is from Ikea and is called Utdragbar.
Thank you for the video! For IKEA cabinets, there is a gap between the back of the cabinet and the wall. How do you fix the PowerPoint to the back of the cabinet? Do you use a special type of PowerPoint?
PowerPoint?
@@kitchensbyrannes Not the same person, but they mean electrical outlet. How do you fill the void? I don't really want to leave a hole in the wall when doing mine.
Thanks for stepping in. I normally don't mess with the electric stuff. That said, in renovations, the boxes remain in the wall and the electrician add an "extender" so it comes out a bit, into the cabinet.
Thanks very helpful
You're very welcome 🤗
