We have a late 1970s house with central vac, but the actual vacuum/accessory is cumbersome and annoying to drag around. Having an actual intake that you can just sweep stuff into would be great.
Let me correct you there, it's not cheap 🤣 but it's certainly plastic. To answer your question; no I haven't. 99% of my clients are happy with the toekick, so it's rarely a topic of discussion. Ikea also have a decorative toekick for some of the fronts but I think that's an even worse solution, as it sits at the front of the cabinet leaving no room for your feet under the cabinet when standing real close. However, using the decorative toekick, cut to height, together with the clips, can be an option. You'll have to paint the ends though, because when you cut it to length, you'll have an open end. I personally don't mind the plastic toekicks and I think it has a number of benefits, and if it's installed correctly, it can look pretty sharp. Maybe it's time to make a video on this topic?🤔
This is what I thought the video was about also lol. I don't care for the plastic although being flexible does have a little benefit. I thought about using a short screw with a large washer to go from the back of the plastic toe kick into a piece of real wood at the front. Then it could still pop on and off like the regular toe kicks; it would just be sturdier. Could possibly use trim or something for a different look too.
I didn't know a central vac dustpan was a thing! 😮
Since you now know how to put it in, you should get one ☺️🙏
@veroandariega I didn't know either! I wonder how this works?
You just sweep your dirt to the front of the dust pan, kick the lever with a toe and the dirt are sucked into the dustpan by the central vacuum 👍

We dont have the central vacuum, but indeed our toe kick sucks! Have you come up with a solution for clients that doesn't use this cheap plastic?

First time I see this toekick, you mean Ikea is selling these?
The toekick is the regular one from Ikea, the dustpan is a central vacuum accessory.
