Thanks so much for all these videos Rannes, they've helped my Ikea kitchen self-install massively. The only issue I have is having to convert inches to metric! We stopped using imperial quite a while back here in Ireland (thank you EU standardisation), so well done to you for being able to adapt to an archaic system of measurement when you moved to North America😆!
Thanks for your continuing sharing great videos which have helped me a lot achieving a challenging task of installing Ikea kitchen otherwise very expensive going to custom cabinets. I only have backslash left done and I have very first install those dimmable lights under wall cabinets as they give ambience feeling every time I light them up. Love them. Having installed myself the entire Ikea kitchen from scratch, it's a big job. It does require to have some skills though. Glad that your tutorials are here reminding me having a lot of fun and get impressed by guests too as it gives you personal satisfaction of being there done that. I wanted to install light for drawers but found it no real need to save some money elsewhere otherwise it will cost a lot due to so many pull out drawers I have installed.
I wish Ikea offers motion sensing under cabinet lights. I am currently getting battery-powered motion sensing under cabinet light from Temu. Their light output is more suitable for drawer light.
Edit: I was too stupid to plug it in right - it does work after all in the US just like in Canada: one has to use the round ends of the Ansluta extension cord to parallel connect the next. To me, the connection looked blocked off with white lids on the Trådfri, but these move back when inserting connector cable. I love your videos. Thanks for making these! I just went to Ikea in FL yesterday and bought a lot of these products. FYI The Trådfri power drivers here no longer come with the ability to plug in another one - the second port is simply sealed off. As a result, each Trådfri need their own receptacle plugged cable.
Glad you like them! But.....whaaattttt..... maybe in the US only 🤔 I hope so. Maybe they had a case where someone hooked up a lot more than the first power cable in line can handle in terms of amps. Absolutely possible.
Hi, thanks for the video!! I have a few questions maybe you can answer. - Why would you choose the LED strips instead of the spots for lights under you kitchen cabinet? I see this more often, but what is the benefit of the strips? - Do you have any idea how long the attached wires are of the MITTLED spots and the wires that come with the LED strips?
You're welcome. Strips provide a more even light along the counter compared to SPOTlights ☺️ And, the wire for the strips are not connected to the light, i.e. two parts. The spotlight has the wire attached to it permanently, so more trouble some to install since the light and cabinet has to be in place when running the wires, where as the wires for the strips can be put in when hanging cabinets. A lot easier. The length of the wires, I cannot remember but it is easily found on Ikea's website.
@@kitchensbyrannes Strips it is then! For the wiring, unfortunately the length of the attached wire of the Spotlight can't be found anywhere on the site :(. Luckily, the strips which I will be using have separate wiring, which is definitely long enough. Thanks!
This video, along with your installation videos, is very helpful for the DIYers out there. Can you please tell me, when you have a blind corner cabinet situation, do you run a group of two 18" lights under the entire cabinet, or only one 18" light under the part of the cabinet that shows. Will it be a dark corner without the extra light, or too bright with it, or just right? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for taking the time to do these videos, cuz I know they take a while to edit and prepare. Going to give a like to every video you have on this subject, b/c I think you have done the best explanation by far. Question: If we want to have drawer lights, but in cabinets that are finished with a panel on the back side (b/c they are not up against a wall), should we bring all the wires in from the bottom or from the side?
Thanks. Im glad that you find my videos helpful. In your situation i would run the wires from the lights to the back and then down to the space below the cabinet where I would place the power supply.
thanks for your videos! Question really...do the Mittled under cabinet lights have to be connected to a remote or can they be hooked up to a dedicated receptacle controlled by a switch and not dimmable?
You're welcome. You can do both, or either. Many of my clients have the lights connected to a receptacle placed under the cabinets, behind the toekick, but still running through a regular light switch. That way they can turn the lights on/off on the switch, and dim on the remote. Naturally, the lights can not be turned on when the switch is off.
You're very welcome. Possible, yes. To code, most likely not. The wire isn't approved for being hardwired, as I understand it. I recommend asking a local electrician.
Hi, great video!! Thanks!! I have a question: on the IKEA USA website, the interior drawer light is listed as 22 inches, but when I check the details, it says 23 inches instead of 22. Do you know the actual measurement-22 or 23 inches? My drawers are 22 inches, and if the lights are 23 inches, they won’t fit.
The actual measurements is the width of the cabinet on the inside, so the one you have is 22½" I think the good folks at Ikea are a bit confused when it comes to imperial units 😲
Is there a link to a video how to install the corner cabinet light? Can these lights be hard wired? Is there a way to connect these lights at an angle(for corber cabinet)?
No video showing that yet. The lights for the 45-degree corner are just two 15" Mittled, sitting at the end of the light(s) under the adjacent cabinet(s). The lights are 24 volts, so they are powered by the Trådløs power supply, which isn't approved to be hardwired. In other words, if you cut the plug off, it isn't to code (in Ontario, Canada), but I see electricians do it nevertheless.
Thank you for another great video. I am planning to connect all my under-cabinet lights to a single switch so I can turn them all on/off at once. Would be nice if there was a way to connect the vent hood lights to the same switch, but I imagine one would have to hack the vent hood to separate the power supply of the lights from that of the vent itself. I wonder if you have ever done this or seen it done? Thanks!
You're very welcome. I'm glad you like it. I cannot say that I've done, or seen, what your suggesting. One could think that the whole vent hood (blower and lights) could be switched as you describe because how often would you run the vent hood blower, without the lights? 🤔
Thanks for this awesome video! It was really informative. One question: since not all drawers will be open simultaneously, wouldn't it be possible to use a single power supply for all the drawer lights? Just a thought to potentially simplify the wiring. Keep up the great work!
You're right. I'm just a cautious man. I should have mentioned the scenario you describe but since I try to show what I do when I install kitchens myself, I didn't think about it. Should a client decide to leave all drawers open at the same time, for whatever reason, and by doing so, exceed the limit of a power supply and possibly kill it, I'll be the one who would have to come by to replace it. Don't want to 😊🤔🫤
It's always better to err on the side of caution, especially when it comes to ensuring the longevity and safety of installations. Your approach of showing what you do based on personal experience is valuable. Thanks for the insight-I'll definitely keep that in mind for future projects.
Love, Love, Love your videos. They were invaluable to my install. I have a 30 inch upper Sektion cabinet. There isn't a 30 inch mittle. Can I combine an 18 and 12 by joining them mid cabinet or will the crews pierce the floor of the cabinet?
@@kitchensbyrannes Ugh! I honestly didn't even see the 15! Too late, I have them bought and opened now. The template is tricky when not going into the side piece like the instructions. But thanks at least for confirming that it can be done. Really appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. Knobs today which is nerve racking...even after watching your video. 😬
I enjoy your videos. If you have 2 separate sets of lights due to a sink or something separating them do you install 2 transformers or just run the low voltage cable in the wall (which I think is allowed by code)?
Thank you for your feedback. I am happy to hear that you find the videos helpful. About your lights. You can do both. If you have a sink between the two sections, you can just run the wires under that cabinet. If it's a stove dividing the cabinets, you can also run the wires in a conduit behind the stove, at the floor.
@@kitchensbyrannes Thanks for the response. I don't know if you ever do appliance garages but I think that is an interesting topic because there is not a lot of information on that. No I don't do those. In Ontario Canada, and many other places, it's not to code to have an electrical outlet behind a door and without it, not so functional.

Thanks for replying! I don’t have a dimmer. Just an on/off remote control. We’ve had the lights (they were installed with an ikea kitchen - so we’re definitely from Ikea) for 18 months and put them on every night for a few hours. I’ve had a look at the same lights on the Ikea website and they’re pretty expensive! But I think I can just unplug and replace the ones I’ve got with identical ones. I’m in Australia btw.
Please never stop making these videos. We will be doing our Ikea kitchen this summer and your videos have been a God send!

I see your point but I don't think I would like motion sensing under cabinet lights. I like to keep them dimmed in the evening for the cozy ambiance.

Nope, each section has its own wire running to the power supply.

It it a distance issue?
There's always a way but if you run too many lights in a line, the consumption may be too high for one power supply.
