Happy New Year- December Reviews and Wrap up
You have really big books to read 😊 I really do like Lady Susan, it is the wittiest book of Jane Austen. Have a wonderful reading month ❤
The Forgotten Garden was good. That's a nice big stack! Good luck on your July reading!
The Forgotten Garden is one of my friend's favorite books. On one of my summer bingo challenges, I need to read a friend's favorite book, so I may use that one!
I really enjoyed The Forgotten Garden, it's very atmospheric and a nice little mystery.
Sounds like a great TBR! I love Lady Susan. Heidi is really sweet. Hope you enjoy all the books!
Killers Of The Flower Moon- I recently read it and really enjoyed it. I think you will like East If Eden. The Lincoln Highway was pretty good. I think you’ll be fine with it. Yes, your copies are beautiful. 😊 Happy Reading.
Empire of the Summer Moon looks good. It breaks my heart that Quanah Parker's house is rotting and falling apart and the owner won't do anything about it. The Forgotten Garden has been on my TBR for a while. Good luck with your July reading!
Very ambitious! I admire you! Heidi is such a nice book to read at any age. It's especially nice to read if you find yourself in a moment where you are feeling anxious or forgotten about. It's a transporting and transforming book. Enjoy :)
❤❤❤
I'm going on an Alaska cruise in 3 weeks. Maybe I should read this??
It talks about that! It would really be cool to hear the back story 😊 have fun!!
Read Alaska a long time ago and was shocked that I considered among my favourite books of all time. Seeing that you loved it so much is a nice validation of my own love of the book. Alaska was written in 1988. Maybe the movie named Alaska that came out in 2015 caused confusion.
Thanks! Yes my copy was a reprint in 2015! Sorry if I confuse people! Whenever it came out it’s great!
Sounds amazing! Very cool concept for books. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching 🧡
I think I have Hawaii in my books upstairs. Now I’m eager to see if I do. I love Alaska too so I’ll put on my TBR.
I bet that one is good- I am on the hunt for his highest rated ones now!
@@EntertheBook changing the subject but I got my JB Stylebox today and haven’t tried anything on yet but love love it 😊. Amy nailed my style. Have a wonderful and safe trip to Belize 🤗
@@tinaparmer6545 thats wonderful! About to head to airport! Excited!! 😆
I share your love for this book and it’s DEFINITELY my best read of 2024 so far. We just returned from a trip to Alaska, and read the book in preparation for the trip. It really enriched my understanding of the geography and history of this amazing place. I listened on audio but followed up with the purchase of a hardback book so that I can reread it and annotate and study the maps. The only other Michener I have read was Chesapeake-- it was good, too, but Alaska outshines it IMHO.
Thanks for the information - glad your trip was amazing! I want to go back!
Interesting timing--I was just looking up what books of Michener's I hadn't read, and Alaska is one of them. It's now on my list of books to look for. Thanks!
Yes I want to read more for sure! ❤️
This sounds like the kind of book that I will love. It gives me Moby-Dick vibes. I was the rare reader who liked the cetology chapters.
You know it does actually have some Moby Dick vibes but history in action!
I’ve never read any of his books but I have Chesapeake on my TBR. This video makes me want to try to get to it sooner.
Seems like a good reason to bump it up! 🧡
Sounds like a good read! I road-tripped around Alaska in 2018 and would love to learn more. Adding it to the TBR
If you’ve been there it will be even better! ❤️
Alaska was first published in 1988. I read a mass market copy when it came out and loved it. I want to reread it this year and have been looking for a used mass market copy. Wish I still had my original copy.
Really??? I must have misread the copy right as a republishing! That’s fascinating as that was close to when I lived there and oil was really king. Hope you find your copy! ❤️
On What page is the quote you read?
Thanks- page 217 in my copy. Had to get home and find my copy- this was such a great book. Though hard topics with war! Hope you enjoy it. 😊
Have you read Middletide by Sarah Crouch? I can’t remember a review if it without going back through your videos. I highly recommend this book. I think it is the best book I’ve read so far this year! Thanks for your reviews!!!!
No I haven’t! I will look it up- thanks! 😊
Hello :) You need to read "Foster" from Claire Keegan, it's a lovely story
Yes I think I do- thanks for reminding me! ❤️
I'm 100 pages in. My friend in another country and I are reading partners and she raved about this book and absolutely loved it. I'm 100 pages in and am wondering why she was so enamored with it. So I am grateful to find out at least one other person feels the same way.
Yeah you can see from quite a few of the comments there are some of us with you. 😊
@@EntertheBook I am trying to decide if it's worth finishing
@Wendys_lovinglife probably not but this is my biased opinion. Can read others thoughts to know if it’s for you.
I want to read Remarkably Bright Creatures. It sounds like The Winners was not your fav but still good. I’m looking forward to starting the series. I really liked Beloved that I read for my classic book club and our next book is One Hundred Years of Solitude. I just finished the romance Book Lovers and it was a good “ beach read”. Tell your hubby Happy Father’s Day🤗
You will like Remarkably bright creatures is my prediction. Ek on one hundred years- if you like it tell me why. I tried even buddy reading it and we both didn’t really follow or get it- even with the cliff notes- I dnf half way. I am open to it being explained to me as the magical realism in that one is just over this girls head 🤣 a book club is maybe the way to go. I loved Book Lovers! I did like The Winners but not as much as I was hoping. Probably more than most people though. I think reading just Beartown by itself is likely the way to go.
@@EntertheBook one hundred years was not my vote🤣. I voted for Dr. Zhivago👍. Now I’m scared! ill let you know how it goes.
Westerns are not for me, particularly not that one. Longmire was a very good tv series. I wish I had read the books beforehand. And of course Lonesome Dove has been on my TBR for ages. I agree with you about Remarkably Bright Creatures. I love Backman but don’t like hockey and can’t get past it. I read the first book.
I do love Lonesome Dove. That’s funny about the hockey. I don’t get into many sports focused books but I did take hockey as my pe credit in high school (along with cross country skiiing) so I did relate to kids being really into it.
I am so glad you did a review of A Suitable Boy. I bought a used copy a couple of months ago and have been intimidating
It’s intimidating! But it was truly a well written book. I will read him again!
I will be reading Remarkably Bright Creatures.
Yay- so good. The line about the title in the book was so profound I cried.
Diverse group of books! Glad most of the books were enjoyable. Currently reading Tales from 1,001 Nights and another book related to work. I think I’m going to read a summery Agatha Christie next. Take care and thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed 1001 Nights and I do love reading books about authors though I still haven’t gotten to the one about Hardy yet! Hoping to catch up in July on my missed tbr books- been more than ever this year- maybe I’ve gotten too ambitious in my reading list. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. ❤️
Yay! You read A Suitable Boy all the way through! One of my top ten faves of my life. I love your reads this month (although I guess I'm not a western girl either lol). Thanks for all of your book videos! It keeps me excited to read even when my motivation is low. I just finished Sociopath by Patric Gagne on audio and it was really good-- read by the author. It's a memoir. There is one disturbing animal cruelty scene that almost made me stop though. For lighter reading, I'm reading Liane Moriarty's The Hypnotist's Love Story. I usually read heavy reads, so this is way different. Can't wait until your next video!
Thanks Amelia! I am buddy reading the hypnotist love story in August so that’s cool! Thanks for the lovely compliment as well. Happy reading ❤️
You are in for a treat reading Alaska. My favorite book so far this year!
I just started it and it’s so fascinating!
I 100% agree with your review. This was my first KH book (read for a book club), and I didn't care for it at all. The writing was repetitive and had a lot of tell vs show. It was so man-centered for a book that was supposed to be about women. The characters were flat and needed to be fleshed out more. I disliked Frankie as a protagonist. I absolutely hated the Insta-love romances. I'll stop there, though I could go on. This book could have been so much more, but it missed the mark for me. I did not enjoy my reading experience, and I don't plan to read another book by her.
I was super disappointed. I’m surprised how well it worked for so many but I am glad for them! Thanks for your feedback and thoughts 😊
Great wrap up! I just read my first Claire Keegan this week called Small Things Like These which I really liked. It was very short as well and she’s definitely an author I would like to try again! I also have Beartown on my shelf to pick up at some point, and I haven’t tried Bachman yet, but have heard great things about his books. The Shakespeare book sounds really good as well! A Suitable Boy is also on my list so I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts on that one once you’re done. I hope you have a great vacation! 📚✨
I think I’d like to try small things next! I loved Beartown!
Thank you. Trying to read for a book club, but it’s a big fail for me.
Not all books work for all people. Way to keep things more interesting 😊
I liked the book a lot and recommend it all around so I was curious to see why you didnt like it. The review is fascinating to watch because I just feel we were focused on completely different aspects of the story. For me the whole time was the focus on Frankie‘s psyche and how her mind dealt with trauma, romance, healing, disenchantment, family relationships, friend relationships, sense of identity and motivation to keep going… The things you mentioned - yeah they are there - but for me those are completely overshadowed by the amazing story of the human mind and how life can transform it. From that perspective, the emotional impact and character development (albeit for only one single character) were phenomenal for me. So thats why I personally liked the book :) But youre right, thats why literature is so great - we get to discuss over it and noones opinion is right or wrong.
Truth! Thanks for your perspective.
I need Bryson's book on the bard! ENJOY your vacation!!
It was most enjoyable- tons of facts told conversationally. 😊
I have the Bill Bryson Shakespeare book in my Libro library and forgot all about it! I should dust that one off and give it a listen!
Yes it’s quite good- especially I would think alongside a play. 😍
I hope you get a great summer of reading. Just finished a Louis L'Amour. Best wishes.
Thanks! Happy reading!
Frankie had nieces and nephews in this book? I do not remember reading about this at all?! 😮
I didn’t mark the page but at one point there were births and names and it felt too modern to me even if there were some people named that way back then. Just little things started to really irritate me because I was already cranky. Ha!
Wow, A Suitable Boy is a chonker 😳. Hope you have a fabulous vacation and looking forward to the reviews of the books you’ll take into June! Thanks for sharing 🙂
It will be the biggest book I’ve read! 1498 pages 😳
What a great check-in! How are you enjoying A Suitable Boy? Steppenwolf’s cover is wonderful!!
Love Suitable Boy - hoping ending doesn’t disappoint! Steppenwolf is a strange book- but interesting and the cover is perfect for it! Thanks 😊
I love A Suitable Boy!
Same!
I want to ready more Thomas Hardy. I might try Desperate Remedies. I have The Dubliners on my bookshelf and I also have a biography called Lilly’s Promise about a survivor of Auschwitz. I know it will be heart wrenching. I am anxious to hear what you think of The Winners. 7:55
I think for his first book Desperate Remedies was very good - I especially loved the first section. Like most classics it was too drawn out at times but interesting story. I didn’t really do a great job explaining the plot I was so caught up in Hardy- ha! It’s really about a girl who came from good stock but on hard times and becomes a ladies maid who is torn between love and marrying the stability she needs and lots of family drama and issues with both. I will film my thoughts on the winners soon- stay tuned. How’s your summer reading going?
@@EntertheBook I’m reading a lot. I’m finishing up Beloved by Toni Morrison for my new classic book club and have nearly a 500 page Jeffrey Deaver mystery to read for my regular book club. I love to read beach and romance books in the summer so want to fit those in. 🤪
@@tinaparmer6545 sounds really good!!
Hi, I just found your channel today, and I enjoy it. From your books in this video, I have read Their Eyes Were Watching God, and I love this book! Zora Neale Hurston's writing is great! I plan to read more of Wilkie Collins, but so far I have only read two: The Woman in White and The Moonstone. I loved both, but The Moonstone even more.
So happy to have you- welcome! Those two are by far his best known books but I enjoy his writing very much! Thanks 😊
I am reading Zane Grey for the first time in June also! The Aeneid I am buddy reading with Jac and it keeps getting pushed. I think it's in August at this point. Looks like a full and fulfilling summer ahead!
Yay- sounds like great summer reading indeed! You do such a great job keeping up with so many events and reads!
The River We Remember is fantastic! I hope you enjoy it!
Great to hear! Thank you 😊
June will be a great month! I picked the Abby Jimenez book and Christina Lauren book also.
Great minds thinking alike getting ready for some fun in the summer!
My kids have read the Aeneid but I have not. Great TBR!
Looking forward to it! Thanks 😊
Great TBR! Thank you for sharing James Michener’s books. I might pick up the one on Hawai’i!
I really enjoyed his on on Texas - I bet Hawaii is great.
I am just now listening to this. To me, your life update was beneficial. I appreciate your thought process as you come to terms with the end to “a season of life”. It has given me insight to some of my own issues! Thanks for sharing.
That’s lovely to hear- thanks for sharing and may you continue to have insight and closure where you need it. ❤️
Sounds like an awesome TBR! Looking forward to your thoughts on those. The new books also sound great. Definitely interested in what you think about the learning through play book. Thanks for sharing!
I’m excited as always for the upcoming new reading adventure- thanks! 😊
