Alaska was first published in 1988. I read a mass market copy when it came out and loved it. I want to reread it this year and have been looking for a used mass market copy. Wish I still had my original copy.
Really??? I must have misread the copy right as a republishing! That’s fascinating as that was close to when I lived there and oil was really king. Hope you find your copy! ❤️
I read this as a freshman in high school and was my first Michener book. I've knocked out all of them in the decades since. A lot of people get intimidated by these heavy books, but I usually try to see them as not requiring you pass a test on them. Read and enjoy. If there is a topic that grabs your interest, look for further context.
Interesting timing--I was just looking up what books of Michener's I hadn't read, and Alaska is one of them. It's now on my list of books to look for. Thanks!
Read Alaska a long time ago and was shocked that I considered among my favourite books of all time. Seeing that you loved it so much is a nice validation of my own love of the book. Alaska was written in 1988. Maybe the movie named Alaska that came out in 2015 caused confusion.
I share your love for this book and it’s DEFINITELY my best read of 2024 so far. We just returned from a trip to Alaska, and read the book in preparation for the trip. It really enriched my understanding of the geography and history of this amazing place. I listened on audio but followed up with the purchase of a hardback book so that I can reread it and annotate and study the maps. The only other Michener I have read was Chesapeake-- it was good, too, but Alaska outshines it IMHO.
@@EntertheBook changing the subject but I got my JB Stylebox today and haven’t tried anything on yet but love love it 😊. Amy nailed my style. Have a wonderful and safe trip to Belize 🤗

@@pullt yes great attitude!
I'm going on an Alaska cruise in 3 weeks. Maybe I should read this??
It talks about that! It would really be cool to hear the back story 😊 have fun!!
Sounds like a good read! I road-tripped around Alaska in 2018 and would love to learn more. Adding it to the TBR
If you’ve been there it will be even better! ❤️
This sounds like the kind of book that I will love. It gives me Moby-Dick vibes. I was the rare reader who liked the cetology chapters.
You know it does actually have some Moby Dick vibes but history in action!

Yes I want to read more for sure! ❤️

Thanks! Yes my copy was a reprint in 2015! Sorry if I confuse people! Whenever it came out it’s great!

Thanks for the information - glad your trip was amazing! I want to go back!
I’ve never read any of his books but I have Chesapeake on my TBR. This video makes me want to try to get to it sooner.
Seems like a good reason to bump it up! 🧡
I think I have Hawaii in my books upstairs. Now I’m eager to see if I do. I love Alaska too so I’ll put on my TBR.
I bet that one is good- I am on the hunt for his highest rated ones now!
