I am planning to read Portrait of a Lady soon, for the first time-and have a bit of trepidation! How interesting to run across Yerby! I read The Foxes of Yarrow when I was in my early twenties (and studying southern history), but didn’t pick up The Vixens. Thanks for the tip!
I think if you are in the mood for that type of classic book when you pick it up you’ll appreciate it. I enjoy his actual writing and dialogue even when the relationships also make me eye roll. 🤣 I can totally see how Foxes of Yarrow would be used for Southern History! It’s a hard part of our history but I do think a book like this helps me understand even deeper the tragedy. I would love to know what you think of The Vixens. I can without a doubt say it makes me SO thankful I didn’t have to live through that time!
I am so glad you liked The Mountain Between Us I didn’t care for the latest book I’ve read by Charles Martin (The Water Keeper). A Life Intercepted was good.
Based on your reviews, and I’ve been watching you for several years, I think you would not care for The Water Keeper but his backlist is good. The Water Keeper is a cross between Jack Reacher and Nicholas Sparks if you can believe it!
The Vixens sounds interesting! So far behind on my reading. A full time job, giving me only one full day, and two half days off is not fun and it's messing with available time.
Oh I live that schedule on a regular basis and you are so right! Only way I get any reading in now is my biological kids are grown and I don’t have all their games and transportation any more. Though I didn’t mind that season either 😊
I’ve never heard of Frank Yerby but that sounds like an interesting story. The Portrait of a Lady is one that I keep meaning to get to but I’m put off by its length. I picked it up at one point but had to put it down because I had read a few Victorian novels before it and was too burned out on that style of writing at the time. I’ll give it another try when I’m in the type of mood you recommend for it 😊. Love the scarf you’re wearing in this video!
Yes to being in the mood for Portrait- it is too long but it is well written and very traditional classical story. An interesting note is after publishing Vixens Frank Yerby declared it his worst book- and I actually loved it. It shows the injustice of that time, has very interesting characters with lots of high drama. I don’t plan to go out of my way to track down more but will be hunting the used books for him!
So happy you liked the Mountain Between Us. I thought it was a really good book!
Agree!! 🙌
I haven’t read any of these but will look up Frank Yerby. Have a great week 😊
Best wishes with what you are reading. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. Very enjoyable but it is of course very long. Happy reading.

Oh no I was looking forward to the water keeper but it will be easier to find his backlist now. Thanks for the tip!
