    Adopting Manuel’s swing, it took me a while to realize that teeing my ball up like I used to (halfway above top of driver), when the ball was off the left foot, was a disaster when I moved the ball back further in my stance like Manuel taught. I was hitting it all over the place and I was trying all kinds of corrections to no avail. Then the ah-ha moment. I needed to tee it lower. What a difference. So I looked through his book on teeing it and perusing videos with his teaching to see what they showed or said. This is the only place I could find anything related to ball height with the Manuel swing. The height in this video was exactly where I’ve had newly found success of an end of summer pursuit of changing my swing. Now Its consistently carrying it 250 yds down the fairway and my confidence in Manuel’s easy swing is blowing my mind. 20 years of trying everything else….and all it took was a year of hard work, his book, and videos of those using his swing like this one. Thank you.

      @edlebeau6763 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eric, this is a great topic and the answer will help youor full swing accuracy too. Begin with using a ball (basketball, soccer ball, etc.). Next you need to set up a practice grid. Establsih a defined target line (eg. the grout lines on a tile floor, the center seam down your driveway) at least ten paces long. Place an object at one end of the line (eg. a chair, golf bag, etc.). You then stand at the other end with your feet parallel to the target line and about two feet from the line. Now make a two-handed, side-arm toss to the target. Repeat this making tosses and just making the motion with the ball. Observe the backswing and develop a sense of how the backswing is target related. This backswing is the same for your golf. Alternate between ball toss and partial golf swings. Toss to other targets and notice how your brain adjusts the bacswing to those targets.

      @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@norman-gregory Standard length and lie are the right club for a golfer who is standard height and arm length. The question is, are you standard. In general such clubs can work for a player between 5'11" and 6"1" and don't have a waist size more than 50 inches. Most retail golf stores or club pro shops do not charge for fitting. Some online sellers offer fitting guidelines that you can use at home. The other question is shaft and grip. If your hands are "normal" size then standard grips will work. Regarding shaft, they effect trajectory. For faster swings a shaft toward the stiffer end of the spectrum. For slower swing a shaft toward the more flexible end. Also a factor for irons is steel or graphite. For slower swings graphite. Set configuration is another consideration. Without knowing your golf swing, consider 5-SW irons, driver, 3 wood, 7 wood. For putter consider a high MOI putter. Ed

      your eyes are optimally positioned just inside the target line. While your eyes are looking at the ball from just inside the target line. Your mind should be fully occupied with the image of the target and its location. While your eyes are looking at the ball all of your attention should be on the mental image you have of the targets location. James, assuming that the putter is now the right length for you, the only consideration for grip is diameter. As you have seen there are very large (fat) putter grips and very low diameter grips for small hands. The question I like to ask players regarding grip diameter is which do you feel you could most precisely swing the club to the target. Players tend to choose the fatter grip until I ask them could they make a more precise drawing with a very fat pencil or a slimmer pencil. Ask yourself the question as you try different diameters. You may find the grip you have works adquately well.

    Thanks Ed. Only discovered Earnest Jones a few months ago and then through research, Manuel De La Torre. I have both their books and watch the De La Torre videos regularly. A shame it took so long as Maneul was being inducted into the golf Hall of Fame around the time I started playing and I saw no mention of this concept. I am now 64 and playing some of the best and most consistant golf I have ever played, just by swinging the golf club and no other thoughts. Thanks for a great seminar which explains the concepts. Since adopting these principals I have developed a nice little draw on the irons, but on my hybrids in particular, has to be called a hook. I am doing my best to make sure the club is sitting flat on the ground, face to target and club centre stance. What I feel at impact is hands and club face turning over, just through the centrifical force of a swing. Any thoughts? Unfortunately in Australia we have no one to approach about this method. Thanks again, great seminar, Maneul would be proud.

    • @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor
      @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Ian, to produce a curved ball flight (draw/hook in your case), the club must impact the ball in a manner that shifts the axis of rotation from being parallel to the ground to the axis leaning left (for right-handers). Shifting the axis to the left can result from: 1) the ball above the feet, 2) playing the ball well forward in the stance, and 3) from an imbalanced grip. Based on your description, it seems as though your curvature is the result of #3. Here is a link to my video on the grip ( th-cam.com/video/7LCU6AgP298/w-d-xo.html ). Take a look and do some experimenting. An interlocking grip is often the culprit of having one or both hands rotated too far to the right. I am a fan of the 10-finger grip. Thanks for this. But here is the idea or question that must always be addressed. Is it not the objective of every instructor to show the student how to put their body in position to use the tool efficiently? In that sense there must be a focus on the body (posture, balance, use of the hands and wrists, use of the arms, the responsiveness of the body …in the right way…) with a view to using the tool properly. Making the distinction between ‘club-focussed’ swing and the ‘body focussed’ is a bit of a confusion. They (body and tool) are not mutually exclusive of each other to produce the effects we desire.

    • @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor
      @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Greg, you make a very important observation. For the club to do its work the body must do its work. So true. However, here's what is too often overlooked. Ask yourself who taught you how to move your body when you first (as an infant) learned to use a spoon. What body instructions were you given when you first used a broom, hammer, or scissors? Of course there was no body instruction for any of those tools. Here's what happens. Humans have evolved with a "tool-using" capacity". We have a unique mental facility to observe how a tool works and subconsciously arrive at the body actions to use the tool. Interestingly, (other than the golf club) there are no tools that you or I use for which we EVER received body instructions. The only problem with learning to use the golf club tool is that it is slight in profile and moves very quickly a portion of which is outside of our peripheral vision. I routinely teach people who are new to the game. I begin with repetitive slow-motion swings so they can observe what the tool does. Then I have them make slow-motion swings with me intermittently making refinements to the club's position until the player can move the club correctly. We then progress to a normal speed and when that is successful we introduce the golf ball. Bottom line: The body moves the club. However, the body moves the club in response to the brain's understanding of what the club should do. The muscular action is highly complex and occurs in too short of a time frame for the player to consciously monitor and direct it. The muscular orchestration can only be handled subconsciously and only in response to a clear mental understanding of the tools use.

    I 100% agree with this. This is how I teach my students. They first must understand how the club works, and how it is to be manipulated to produce the desired result. The body motions get refined after the student learns how the club is manipulated correctly. My first rule is.. "Whenever the club shaft is level to the ground, it should be parallel to the target line." This produces a swing which is on plane, and is parallel to the target line. This is the first step in learning to hit the ball straight, and at your target.

    every single pro golfer on every single golf tour has shaft lean at impact.

    • @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor
      @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashley, first that's an amazing amount of work to study the swings of every pro on every tour. I'm impressed. I guess you missed this one (www.golfdigest.com/story/swing-sequence-tiger-woods) on the PGA tour or this one on the LPGA tour (www.pinterest.com/pin/210050770109137162//) or this one from the European tour (www.australiangolfdigest.com.au/swing-sequence-shane-lowry/) or this one (www.australiangolfdigest.com.au/anatomy-bunker-shot/). Of course, I could go on. But more to your point, it is very common for players to have what can be called "shaft lean" at impact, especially with approach shots. This is one reason it appears the tour players have greater yardage with their irons. By leaning the shaft forward they turn an eight iron into a 7 or 6 iron. A combination of their ball contact optimizing back spin and their club speed producing greater decent angles they can hold the greens with that delofted iron. For most amateurs, delofting the club produces lower lofted shots that have more run when they arrive at the green. And for other than higher swing speed golfers the delofting also shortens the "carry" of their shots and can in fact decrease their yardage. Lastly, delofting the club with "shaft lean" takes the bounce out of play and denies the golfer the benefit it provides. And delofting can be a source of inconsistency by not ensuring that the shaft lean for a given iron is always the same number of degrees. The pros have developed a perception that not only allows them to sense which groove the ball came off of, but also to be consistent in their shaft lean. So Ashley, lean if you like but I don't find there to be any advantage in doing so and in fact some disadvantages.

      I was equating apples to apples. Full iron shots. Since you were demonstrating an iron shot. Not a driver or a bunker shot. So don't be a twit. It's has been scientifically proven that any degree of shaft lean is ALWAYS beneficial as the club head destabilizes. Also its MUCH MUCH easier to hit slightly down on an iron with a few degrees of lean. I never said you need to lean it as much as the pros. I do not. But I do try to lean it a bit. If you carefully analyze tigers driver swing you will see he even leans it a bit on driver. That is because the head is MORE STABLE when trailing the hands. Even by just a bit. th-cam.com/video/Jlp8G9paliw/w-d-xo.html

    I'm a club focused player but disagree with you saying a good shot doesn't feel much different than a bad one. Also disagree with clubs being engineered to be able to use the same swing with every club. They all need a little different adjustment at address in order to feel the same and be balanced in the swing. If you do the same thing with every club then some will produce good shots and the others will be bad. I can prove it too. Just look at how everyone goes through a round and maybe they did good with driver that day but bad with mid irons. Or maybe they did good with long irons but bad with wedges. Ppl struggle with producing good shots with all the clubs and I know exactly why. And it has nothing to do with body positions

      I'm a club-focused player but disagree with you saying a good shot doesn't feel much different than a bad one. **Dustin, a good shot "feels" very different than a bad one. My intended point was that most players are not absolutely clear on what the critical difference was between their good shot and their bad one. Further, when you do "feel" a good shot with a seven iron, it is very unrealistic that you can remember "that" feel three holes later. Also disagree with clubs being engineered to be able to use the same swing with every club. They all need a little different adjustment at address in order to feel the same and be balanced in the swing. **Manufacturers use the same robot to test every club. It makes the identical swing for each with the only alteration being the lie angle and the distance the rubber tee is set on which they place the ball. If you do the same thing with every club then some will produce good shots and the others will be bad. I can prove it too. Just look at how everyone goes through a round and maybe they did good with driver that day but bad with mid irons. Or maybe they did good with long irons but bad with wedges. **The best players in the world can produce a good shot with a five iron and on the next hole produce a bad shot with a seven iron. It has nothing to do with the change of clubs but that their swing with the seven was not the same as the five. I have taught players for 30 years to make the same swing with the dirver as they do with the wedge. They are relieved to embrace the uniformity and play with higher confidence and consistency.

      @EdLeBeauCFIinstructor I'm aware of who you are and what your teaching stems from. And that's the only reason I'm here. Because your a club focused instructor. So let's focus on the club for a minute. I think we could both agree that a robot is a terrible way to test clubs. Why? Because a robot doesn't lose balance or tempo like we do. Further more, we are all different and lose balance differently. If I walk up and push you, your going to automatically move to catch your balance and afterwards you will have no clue how your body parts moved to catch your balance. If I push the guy next to you, his body will move to catch his balance but he will move differently than you did. So what I'm trying to say is that swing flaws happen because the club isn't balanced in the swing. Our body's are simply responding to the club being out of balance. When the club is balanced in the swing, newtons 3rd law of motion goes into affect and perfect impact/ swing path is going to certainly happen along with every muscle in the body working the same amount. (Which is very little). There is no one muscle working harder than the others in a balanced swing. So now the question becomes, how do you balance any club I hand you? Standard lie, 2° up, 3° flat, hosel offset or none, C9 swing weight or E3... doesn't matter. Can you balance it and produce repeatable shots?

      @@dustingray4072 Dustin, intellectual discussions of the golf swing are too few so I appreciate your assessment of my instruction. With regard to robotic testing, I disagree that it is "terrible". The purpose of the testing is to determine that the club "can" produce the desired effect when used in a specific manner. If you observe the robots the do what any golf can do and what every golfer would be wise to do. However, humans will never be as consistent as a robot. While our balance will fail us from time to time as will other aspects of the swing, none of the necessities are beyond our abilities as is evidence by the wonderful shots that we can produce and the frequency of them relative to our understanding and our practice. I am not adequately knowledgable about Newtons 3rd law to agree or disagree with your proposition. What I can confirm is that what I learned from Manuel de la Torre proved successful for his students (PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour, and amateurs). Further, teaching for 30 years, I routinely find players greatly relieved by this easy to understand and execute process for producing effective golf swings. With regard to "balancing the club", I am not sure of what you are intending to describe. What I can say is that I can easily produce shots with any and all of the clubs players bring to school. Will some clubs fit me better and enable better shot, of course. But it is relatively easy to adapt to a variety of clubs. There are many logical assertions that can and are made about the golf swing. But as the saying goes, "the proof of the pudding is in the tasting"and the CFI approach we suggest in this video has proven itself for over 100 years.

      I hope you don't think I'm picking on the CFI method. I have read Ernest Jones book and Manuel de LaTorre book. They are great to get people started on the right path. I just took my study of the swing further. And also did allot of study on some of the greatest players to find a common denominator between all of them. Lee Trevino, Ben Hogan, Seve Ballesteros, Johnny Miller, Moe Norman, Sam Sneed, Count Yogi, Arnold Palmer and many more. So many great players with visually different looking swings. Anyways, thanks for your time. I may start a TH-cam channel some day to share the results of my study.

      @@dustingray4072 I think conscientious discussions of the golf swing are always helpful. With regard to walking, many different ways to get from here to there. With regard to writing, many ways to hold the pencil and posture. With regard to swinging the golf club, there are an infinite variety we can see on tour let alone with amateurs. Club-focused instruction does not attempt to resolve which of those motions is best. Instead, CFI addresses the question of what is required to send the ball straight on a normal (club-produced) trajectory. From this perspective, we move from the "subjective" (individual style/preference) to the "objective" of what happens in such shots. Four things happen whether is Arnold, Sam, Jack, Tiger, you, or me: 1) the ball is contacted by the center of the clubface, 2) the clubface is perpendicular to the target line at impact, 3) the path of the swing is along (parallel) to the target line, and 4) the club imparts enough speed to propel the ball the needed distance. Those are the four fundamentals at the core of CFI. Our curriculum is designed to make producing those four as simple as possible and identical for each club in the bag.

    As I swing the club slowly, I finally notice what Manuel is talking about--the swing circle shifts forward ever so slightly. Since the ball is positioned at address just in front of the club that is centered to the ORIGINAL CIRCLE at address, then does that mean in the forward swing the clubface is open when it reaches the ball and only squares up completely once it reaches the new center position (Which is slightly shifted forward in the forward swing? In other words, doesn't the forward swing concept that Manuel described means that the clubface only gets squared past the ball (i.e. makes contact with the ball with a slightly opened face)?

The hoop progress about 3 inches. During those three inches the club stays relatively square to the target line. Please, please, please do not attempt to make the clubface stay square to the target line. That results in push-fades. Hello Darrin, in that portion of the video, you are observing the contrast between two swinging actions. Manuel identified them as a "low center swing" (the one Manuel makes) and a "high center swing (the one the golfer makes). A low center swing has an arc created by hands and has an early wrist hinge (radial and ulnar deviation). The high center swing has an arc created by the arms and has a later wrist hinge created by the weight of the club after it passes 10 o'clock in the back swing. While either of these two can produce effective ball flight, I teach the high center with the wrist hinge happening after 10. I like this because it makes the swing more consistent putter through driver since in the putter there is no wrist hinge. Additionally, the high center swing is more analogous to a two-handed side-arm toss of a soccer ball and therefore affording the golfer an easy model around which to build their swing. If you are going to teach the low center swing be clear that you use the hands in the ulnar/radial manner. Ed

      @@EdLeBeauCFIinstructor That makes a lot of sense. I have always been an "upper arc" swinger and trying to the lower arc swing has taken some effort. I do note on the lower arc swing, like Manuel says, if I use both hands equally to start the swing it gets my club into a great position and the swing feels effortless. Like the kid says in the video it feels a bit handsy but I think this can lead to a more consistent ball strike for me. Thanks for all your videos and your time … you are making a difference!

      John, begin by standing in front of a mirror with your weight balance in both feet. I understand that your trail foot is injured but endure this just for a few seconds. Observe your center in the mirror (its the midpoint between your arm sockets). Keep watching your center as you shift all of your weight to your forward foot so that you balance on that one foot (no weight on trail foot). You'll notice that your center moved--it move to your left. Imagine a line from your center to your naval. At address, your shaft should be on that line. If you then put a small amount of weight on the trail foot you'll find the center line moves slightly to the right. You address shaft position should then be on your center line and therefore slightly right of when you were balance on just your forward foot. You will need to practice: 1) getting acclimated to playing from that club position and 2)ensuring the your torso rotates and does not sway. Keep swinging, Ed
