Trout fishing in the Mitta River at season's end - Low water fishing with lures
มุมมอง 2.4K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Filmed on the day before the closure of the trout season in Victoria (Sunday 9th June 2024). We head up to the Mitta River on the King's birthday weekend and find the river at a very low level. This allows us to access water that would normally be hard to fish, especially in the warmer months when downstream irrigation demands means that water from Dartmouth dam is required in high quantities. ...
A surprise catch while targeting redfin
มุมมอง 2K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Redfin have been hard to find in Lake Hume this summer. We have tried all our usual tricks to find and tempt them, but to no avail. This video was filmed over two days in mid January. While targeting a likely looking clay and rock bank, we were hoping for some better reddies, or perhaps a big yellowbelly that may be lurking around in search of some small redfin. With that in mind we employed de...
Finding A Feed Of Redfin at Lake Hume
มุมมอง 2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are back on Lake Hume chasing redfin. It has been a difficult summer for reddies, the numbers are way down for most anglers across the lake this year. We will give you some hints and methods we use when redfin are playing hard to get. Music: Bensound.com/royalty-free-music License code: U4LQQQ67WUIYBZTP
Shore Based Fishing Access at Tallangatta, Lake Hume
มุมมอง 90610 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short video showing the extensive public access available at Tallangatta, Victoria. There are heaps of places to wet a line, either spinning or relaxing by the shore with a couple of bait rods. Most access is easily reached by foot, and generally anglers can park close to the water, making it ideal for elderly or disabled visitors. Three new BBQ areas have been built, making it a pleasant des...
Cooked Prawns For Redfin? An alternative to regular baits and lures.
มุมมอง 3.7K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Redfin are a great target species for bait anglers. Just about anything will catch redfin. Popular baits are earthworms and yabbies, but when both are either scarce or way too expensive, give frozen cooked prawns a go. For around $10 you can get enough bait for multiple fishing trips, it's easy to store and it works!! It may surprise you that prawns will sometimes outfish more traditional baits...
LAKE DARTMOUTH - Chasing yabbies and trout in challenging conditions
มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Lake Dartmouth, in North East Victoria, is home to a healthy population of wild Brown and Rainbow Trout, Macquarie Perch and Trout Cod. Perhaps less known, it is also home to a population of large yabbies, that thrive in the pristine waters of this alpine lake. Anglers are permitted to use up to 10 open top (pyramid) nets each at Lake Dartmouth. Because of the beautiful clear water, the table q...
Mitta Mitta River and Snowy Creek - Beautiful trout streams in North East Victoria

In this video I fish the Mitta Mitta River below Lake Dartmouth and above the Mitta township. Later in the video I fish the Snowy Creek above Mitta township on the Omeo Highway. This video doesn't have a lot of "catching action" but it will give the viewer an idea of the beautiful water on offer in these pristine streams. Redfin on blades and plastics
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
It has been an amazing couple of years on Lake Hume for the humble redfin. This tasty table fish is considered a pest by many, but it is also keenly pursued by those who appreciate it for their eating qualities, and let's face it, it is a very tasty species! In this video I target them with only metal blades in combination with a soft plastic minnow. Please subscribe, comment and like. Music by...
When Redfin Perch Attack!! Double and Triple Hook-ups
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a collection of redfin captures which highlight the aggressive feeding patterns of this freshwater species. Redfin can school heavily, and when they are actively feeding their competitive nature means that double and even triple headers become common. These clips are drawn from five separate sessions in Lake Hume in North east Victoria, Australia. Music: Bensound.com/royalty-free-music ...
Lake Hawea - Superb Trout Fishing
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Lake Hawea is a huge glacial lake in the south island of New Zealand. At a surface elevation of 342 metres, it features soaring mountains and deep water, and supports a healthy population of wild bred rainbow and brown trout, as well as a population of landlocked salmon. It is New Zealand's 9th largest lake and at it's deepest part (392 metres, more than 1200 feet) the bottom is actually below ...
Chasing Autumn Redfin - Tips and tricks at Lake Hume
มุมมอง 4.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Autumn is a great time to target redfin in impoundments. They generally move into deeper water and tend to school up in preparation for spawning. This is often a good opportunity to find some larger specimens. In this video I show you the methods I use to target these fish with some tips and tricks that might improve your chances. Lake Waihola - A great redfin fishery in the South Island of New Zealand
มุมมอง 2Kปีที่แล้ว
Lake Waihola is a tidal lake in New Zealand's south island, 30 km south of Dunedin. It contains a healthy population of brown trout, but it also contains a large population of redfin (English Perch). Some specimens can grow to more than 5 lbs (2.3 kg). It is a shallow lake, and is often affected by high winds, which can turn the lake to milk coffee very quickly. There is plenty of access availa...
Is it legal to return redfin after capture in Australia? (The rules for each state and territory)
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
The rules covering catch and release of redfin perch vary widely across the country. In some states it is illegal to return redfin, while others have more liberal rules in place. This can lead to many heated discussions on social media, and often people are unfairly targeted for choosing to release their redfin if they so choose. In this video I look at the rules and regulations in each state a...

Fishing Close To Home During Lockdown - Winter Baitfishing At Lake Hume
Worked on the dam stayed in Mitta caravan Park and fished down stream from the park catching many browns , saw but did not catch the big ones . The boys caught many in the pools below the wall when the water was shut off and there was a lot of around 1 to 2 kg ..
Loved your coverage of lake Hume, can I ask what was that plastic you were using. Also what is that virus you are talking about? Thanks Graham
The plastic was a Berkley dropshot minnow in perch pattern, very effective but unfortunately no longer being produced. The virus is unknown, it results in blistered sores on the skin, and seems to come and go in the lake. At times it affects more than 50% of the total catch.
Love your videos especially because you share your experience and tell us what lures are the go. 54yrs old and still learning. 👍
Thanks so much, mate. Really appreciate the support.
Bout time, rosco. lol, bloody good video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks mate. Cheers.
Great to see you Roscoe & Jamie. Watching from the opening weekend up on the Euc. Very blowy up here mate, ridiculous really. Waiting for the first on fly for the season but almost as good seeing you two out together. Enjoy seeing how you use your gear, too. Esp the sounder. Thanks for the entertainment gents. Keep 'em coming. Cheers PP
Thanks heaps PP. I always value your positive comments on my videos. I hope you have had some success for the season opener. Cheers, Ross
@@FishtalkVideo To be honest Ross we gave up the last two days, spent time checking a few new spots, hopefully the wind settles to gale force soon and we get back out. Although, it is forecast to snow! Your stuff is always down to earth, practical and lets us feel like we're out there enjoying it with you. Never precious, which is great. Appreciate all the effort you put in, looking forward to some Dartmouth! Take care mate. PP
Thanks heaps, mate. Will hopefully be back to Dartmouth real soon. Cheers!
well done guys, tempt us with more thanks
That's the plan, Peter. Cheers!
Great to see you guys back at it!
Thanks mate, it's good to be back.
good stuff piscatorial brothers
Hey Darren, thanks for dropping by!
Great video guys. Good to see you back on the water.
Thanks 👍
Great to see you back and another informative video 👌
Thanks for the feedback, cheers.
what een awesome Catch 💯👍☀️🔥👊😜💪😍🐟🎣💥
Thanks for watching
Well done guys. Great video.
Thankyou Andrew, I appreciate the feedback. Cheers.
Nice work Rosco the wind has defiantly been an issue lately, but your persistence paid off well done
Thanks Dmac. We only spent 2 and a half hours that day, so we got a bit lucky I guess.
Awesome stuff Ross great video! Some good pointers there so glad to see you back it's been a while I was starting to get a bit concerned.Looks like you had an unusual day with the Tallangatta Doctor blowing all day it usually goes it's hardest in the morning and quite often by midday it is glassed out.If that was the day before the Grand Final Eve public holiday I fished with Andrews Outdoors and Robbie Fishing the next day and Andrew made a video of it that came out 6pm tonight. That looked like nice orange flesh in that fish top stuff! Yes you can't go past the Kings Jump starter I have got one myself just make sure you charge it every now and then even if it says 100% I reckon mine went nearly flat after a long period of time even though it said 100%.
Hey Sandy, yes, it was last Thursday, we didn't get on the water until 3.00pm, and were surprised that we were the only boat on the water. Great to see daphnia in the stomach contents, it certainly makes the flesh a lovely color. Rainbow's really thrive on it in Lake Dartmouth.
The afternoon can be good fishing on Hume for sure but it can also get hectic with jetskis, water skiers and powerboats especially on a warm calm day,the choppy conditions were probably a blessing in disguise!
@akhector very true!!
The 2 legends are back. Well done, guys 👌
G'day, Ray! Coming from the real legend, I'll take that as a compliment! Cheers.
Awesome work, and lovely trout. I agree 100% about diversifying your lures U Tim you work out what is working best. That applies to all kinds of fishing I reckon. 👍👍
Thanks mate. It can save a lot of time trying to find what they like.!
Great video mate
Thanks Michale, Cheers.
Great video
Thankyou!
Trolling speed should be dependent on water temperature, higher temperature higher speed. :)
Great video fellas always good to you fellas getting on to a few
Thanks mate. It was a great day.
Another great video Rosco and Jamie, really nice trout at the end
Thanks, Dmac. It was literally the final cast of the day, no better way to end a session!
good stuff roscoe ,good to see jamie also
Thanks Darren. It was a pleasant day on the river.
@@FishtalkVideo the next one a dart video mate
I haven't had a lot of luck up there lately, Darren.
@@FishtalkVideo it will fire soon, roscoe ole mate
Great video, I loved it. A great reminder for me. I'm a shocker for avoiding popular places. Haha I love the Mitta Mitta River. I was hoping to fish it back in March/April and didn't get there. Next season I will be sure to head back up there. Ripper way to end your session, and season. 👍👍
Thanks Robbie. The Mitta is a lovely river to fish. Cheers
Mitta fished well last few weeks in the season!! Pulled some nice 2lb+ rainbows along the banks !
Well done, mate. It's a lovely river to fish.
Hi Ross, great videos! Was nice to meet you at Old Tallangatta yesterday
Hi Paul. Thanks for dropping by! I hope you got a few there before dark!
Great work guys watched them both what hooks do you use for trolling worm at Dartmouth on lead line
Long shanked worm hooks. You can get some with a serration near the eye that helps to stop the worm from sliding down. Most important to get hooks with the gape in-line. An offset gape will cause the bait to spin. Hope this helps.
Thankyou that's very helpful 👍👍
Thanks for tips just found you channel will be checking out the rest of your videos
Thanks for watching, Cheers!
Beaut cod gents. You didn't look too unhappy this session about missing out on a feed Roscoe 🙂 Such beautiful fish. Great to see the lake in good shape, too. Cheers PP.
Yes, it's a good feeling to hook into one of those beautiful natives, and just as good seeing them swim off healthy. Cheers, mate.
good stuff goodoo slayers
Thanks Darren. Safe to say that we definitely were not expecting that!
Just wondering why hume is so low when the others still hold plenty of water I love watching what you do family fun thanks
Thankyou very much. The lake is actually holding more water than it normally would at the end of summer, it is primarily an irrigation storage, so is regularly drawn down to meet crop watering demands downstream. It's great to have a useable boat ramp here at Tallangatta, as it becomes unusable when the lake drops to about 52 percent.
Great stuff Ross well done! i reckon the cod out of Lake Hume are the fattest out of anywhere, that one you got was no exception! i went out in lake Hume a year or so ago looking for a feed of redfin and didn't have much luck then a 56cm cod presented itself late in the session so i decided to keep it for a feed and it was beautiful eating, just because they are fat doesn't mean they are not good eating, i don't often keep a cod for a feed that was the last one i kept
Cod numbers seem to be growing, Sandy. This one was in superb condition, and I agree about Lake Hume's cod, all the photos I see from there are great looking fish. Thanks for watching, mate.
Nice work Rosco great looking cod
Thanks mate, it was certainly a bonus after assuming it was a yella when it hit.
Awesome cod fellas well done
Cheers, mate. I'm a big wrap for the Bullet Killshot 60, they are a great redfin imitation.
Better go and get a couple 😂
Awesome work Ross, well done. I need to get my kayak up there again and chase some redfin. Nobody is reporting good fishing for redfin up there though. LOL
Yes mate, it's got me stumped. Perhaps the virus that hit them last summer had a bigger impact than we all thought. Cheers, and thanks for watching.
Nothing better than getting a native surprise bycatch! What a chunky cod for 55cm, looks at least 65+ 😂
It's been in a good paddock, hasn't it? It really made our trip that day.
Always love seeing a new FishTalk video.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support!
Well done beautiful fish love your content keep it up thank you
It was a complete surprise, but certainly a welcome one. Thanks for watching.
well done , good to see that there are nice fish to be caught
They are a great looking fish, and this one was in prime condition. Thanks mate.
Gday Rosco, my wife and I were out on Sunday arvo trolling opposite Kookaburra point north of Bethanga bay where I picked up my first Hume weir Cod, a lovely 50cm. Very exciting. Isn’t it great to see these beautiful fish returns to the water. Thanks for your content.
That area you were fishing in has turned up a lot of cod in recent times. Well done! Recognition to fisheries and the local volunteers for helping to make Lake Hume a premier mixed fishery with regular native and trout stackings.
Awesome fish well done guys
Thanks mate, it certainly put a smile on our dials!!
Excellent video fellas great to see you and Jamie catch a few
Thank you Michale. It's been a tough summer for redfin.
@@FishtalkVideo it has mate hardly even botherd to go out the weir that much ross when we have we got onto a couple of cod only
good stuff piscatorial pursuers
Thanks Daz!!!! Catch up soon. Cheers.
Great video as we all expect was this filmed recently no seem to be able to catch any reddies? 🍻🎣
Thanks mate, it was filmed about three weeks ago, but since then I have found the redfin very hard to locate. The water is the best I've seen for years, but the fish just don't seem to be around.
Great Video well done! Great to see Jamie on board again.Interesting you said you have been out a few times before this video without much luck i would image you would of been fishing the same areas as in this video do you think some days they just bite more than other days?
Absolutely. I have been to spots two days in a row, with heaps on day one and struggled on day two. Two weeks after this was filmed we went out to the same area, and didn't boat a single fish! Cheers.
@@FishtalkVideo Thanks for that Ross makes me not feel so bad about not catching many redfin last time i went out when in the same spot the time before i got a few
Thanks for all the tips!
No worries, I hope you can get onto a fish or two.
Great vid some nice Reddies there Rosco and Jamie did ok too I guess
Cheers, mate. Haha, the little bugger out-fished me!!
@@FishtalkVideo yea mate they do that
Looked like another beaut day out in paradise Rossco. I was just thinking I need to watch your filleting video for redfin again. Hope you're well down there and life is good. Thanks for the entertainment. Cheers mate PP
Thanks mate. Fishing is slow down this way, but hopefully it will pick up soon.
@@FishtalkVideo Yeah, that time of the year. Waiting for it to cool down a bit and maybe rain up here. Just love fishing in Autumn. Keep 'em coming Ross. PP
Well done Ross. Looking forward to coming up from Melbourne to spend a couple of days. Catch up with you then. Regards Graeme.
Hi Graeme, I'm off to NZ for a month next week, but hope to catch up after that. Cheers.
Always have enjoyed your videos bread and butter beautifully thank you
Thankyou for the kind comments, and thanks for watching.
Very useful video. I really miss Redfin. used to eat it twice a week. We would gut it and mum would just tear the skin off. Flour the fish and cook with bones in. We would pick them clean. Still my favourite fish
They certainly are a great table fish. Thanks for visiting.
